At Hope for the Young, our mission to support young refugees and asylum seekers in London as they overcome the many challenges of starting a new life in the UK. From navigating education systems to building confidence and social connections, our Volunteer Mentors play a crucial role in helping young people achieve their goals and fulfil their potential.

What You’ll Do as a Mentor

• Meet with a young person (mentee) once a week for 1–3 hours, usually in a local café, library, or community space in London

• Set education and personal development goals and offer guidance, support and motivation towards these

• Commit to mentoring for a minimum of six months

About the role 

Do you enjoy meeting people, offering a listening ear, and helping others feel more connected to their community? We’re looking for enthusiastic Volunteer Befrienders who can give around 1 hour a week to support adults living with mental health challenges across Ware, Hertford, Hoddesdon, Broxbourne, Cheshunt, Cuffley, and Waltham Cross.

As a Volunteer Befriender, you’ll:

• Meet with people in the community at times and places that suit their needs (this may occasionally include evenings or weekends).
• Provide emotional support, drawing on your own lived experience.
• Encourage people to build social connections and get involved in local activities.
• Act as a “community connector” by signposting people to services and opportunities.

Full training and regular supervision will be provided, so you’ll feel confident and supported in your role.

About the service 

Our Hertfordshire befriending service supports adults (18+) who are living with mental health challenges and are known to mental health services. The service helps people feel less isolated, more confident, and more connected to their local communities.

DESCRIPTION SUMMARY:

The IWI Conference Planner will be responsible for the full lifecycle of an event, from strategic planning and budgeting to on-site logistics and post-event evaluation, ensuring the event aligns with The IWI's mission and goals. Key duties include venue and vendor selection, budget management, marketing and attendee registration, speaker and sponsor coordination, managing event staff and volunteers, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and reporting on event success to leadership. This role requires strong project management, budget management, communication, and negotiation skills to deliver a high-quality experience within financial constraints.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Event Strategy & Planning:

Collaborate with stakeholders to define event goals, themes, and target audiences, and develop comprehensive plans and timelines.

Budget Management:

Create and manage event budgets, identifying cost-effective solutions, securing sponsorships, and tracking expenditures to meet financial objectives.

Logistics & Operations:

Oversee all logistical aspects, including venue selection, vendor management (catering, AV, decor), and event setup and breakdown.

Marketing & Communication:

Develop and implement marketing and promotion strategies to attract attendees, manage attendee registrations, and ensure smooth communication before and during the event.

Stakeholder & Speaker Management:

On-site Management:

Post-Event Activities:

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Relevant Person’s Representative (RPR) Volunteer

Some individuals have been deprived of their liberty following a decision about certain aspects of their care and living arrangements, such as being moved from independent accommodation into a care home, are in their best interest and necessary to keep them safe. These people are legally entitled to have support from an RPR. An RPR may be a family member, but if this is not an option then an VoiceAbility RPR volunteer can be appointed.

As an RPR Volunteer you might:

· Visiting clients to ensure they are getting the right care, support and being treated fairly

· Keeping detailed notes and records of interactions with clients and care facility staff

· Helping to ensure the client is receiving the best care, in line with their wishes

· Alerting the Team Leader to any concerns regarding the client or their treatment

· Building professional relationships with the Care Home Staff

· Recording activity on our case management system and writing reports

· Helping to make a difference to someone’s life

Hospital Visitor Volunteer

Hospital Visitor volunteers visit hospital settings to ensure that people detained under the Mental Health Act are aware that they have a legal right to an IMHA qualified advocate.  The volunteers are instrumental in ensuring that clients get access to an advocate and can also support the work that advocates undertake. 

· As a hospital volunteer, you might:

· Hold drop-in sessions

· Attend events and ward meetings at local facilities

· Share information

· Assist people to request advocacy support by completing a form online or calling our contact centre

In this role you’ll be able to develop your organisation, communication and team working skills.Most importantly you’ll inspire your local community to raise funds that help make sure no one has to face MS alone.

Time Commitment

We estimate this role will need around 2 hours a week. Our roles are flexible and aim to fit around you. Time commitments for this role may vary depending on your activities. This is an ongoing role.

This is a great opportunity to gain experience within a large charity and develop your existing skills and learn new ones. We need you to get involved and help make positive changes to the lives of people affected by MS.

About you

You’ll have an interest in the MS Society and the work that we do, as well as the enthusiasm to represent both us and our values locally. You will understand the needs of people affected by MS in your area and be sympathetic to the needs and motivations of volunteers. You’ll be confident using Microsoft Office, the internet and email. You’ll be able to apply disability, equality and inclusion practices and understand and apply our risk management system. Ideally you’ll understand the local area and organisations that provide local services.

You will be reliable and easy to contact and you need to live in or near the area the group to carry out this role.
