Purpose of the Job 

The Head of Comms and External Affairs will lead our narrative and steward our reputation at critical moment, following the merger of FareShare and The Felix Project to form the new Felix brand. The role will set the strategy and operating rhythm for a team of seven across media relations, internal communications and public affairs, ensuring Felix speaks with one clear, trusted and influential voice.

Reporting to the Director of Marketing and Communications and working alongside the Head of Brand Marketing who leads brand marketing and digital communication, the postholder will protect and build Felix's reputation, shape national and sector conversations on food redistribution, food waste and food insecurity, and help position Felix as a leading partner in the national endeavour to triple food redistribution in the UK.

The role will provide senior counsel to the CEO, Executive Team, trustees and senior leaders; lead high-quality media, stakeholder and parliamentary engagement; and ensure internal communications support colleagues, volunteers and partners through integration, change and growth.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Set and lead an integrated external affairs strategy for Felix, aligned to organisational strategy, the post-merger integration plan, the refreshed brand and the national programme to expand food redistribution.
• Lead, develop and empower a multidisciplinary team of seven across media relations, internal communications and public affairs, directly managing three discipline leads and building clear priorities, standards and ways of working.
• Lead Felix's media relations and reputation management, securing proactive national, regional and sector coverage, overseeing reactive press office activity, preparing spokespeople, managing issues and crisis communications and working closely with the digital marketing team.
• Working closely with the CEO and policy colleagues, leading public affairs and influencing activity, building trusted relationships with government, parliament, food industry partners, redistribution networks, funders and sector coalitions to advance Felix's mission and policy objectives.
• Set the strategic direction for internal communications, ensuring staff, volunteers, network partners and other internal audiences understand the charity's vision, values, priorities and change journey.
• Develop clear narratives, messages, evidence and thought leadership that explain Felix's mission, impact and role in creating a fairer and more sustainable food system.
• Provide expert advice to the Executive Director of Fundraising, Marketing and Communications, CEO, Executive Team, trustees and senior leaders on reputation, stakeholder positioning, media risk, political context and communications opportunities.
• Work closely with the Head of Brand Marketing to ensure external affairs, brand marketing, fundraising, digital communication and operational communications are integrated, consistent and mutually reinforcing.
• Embed professional standards, risk management, evaluation and compliance across the function, including political impartiality, charity law, safeguarding, data protection, media protocols and inclusive communications.
• Bring innovation and experimentation to the development of content and wider communications offer.

This role is central to strengthening and connecting Carers Trust’s organisational networks across the UK. Through the delivery of clear, consistent and engaging communications, the Communications & Engagement Officer will help members stay informed about opportunities, resources and developments across the network, while promoting collaboration and the sharing of learning and good practice.

Working within the Network Development Team and closely alongside colleagues in Communications and Marketing, the postholder will coordinate network communications across a range of channels and audiences, helping to increase engagement with Carers Trust’s membership offers and strengthen connections between member organisations.

The role will also play an important part in ensuring members' voices, experiences and achievements are reflected across Carers Trust’s wider communications. Communications 

• Prepare and maintain an annual comms timeline – including key celebratory or significant events for example mental health week, volunteer day etc ensuring that the Trust is maximising coverage across these key dates in the year;  

• Maintain the annual events calendar – work with programme leads to ensure events are being covered by comms; 

• Coordinate, collate and support with the preparation, completion and delivery of the ST newsletter – distribute via Mailchimp and oversee staff hard copy delivery;  

• Day to day social media, liaising with Programme leads for engaging content; 

• Monitor and ensure the website content is updated as needed; 

• Prepare Board report on Comms; 

• Be main contact for and oversee workstream with our Graphic Designer; 

• Write PR materials as needed; 

• Organise and oversee a regular Comms meeting with SLT – to include a focus on external and internal comms, the comms timeline and organisational events calendar 

Data Management and Reporting 

• Coordinating reporting deadlines and ensuring they are met by staff; 

• All reports to be saved into report folder and SLT notified to sign off; 

• Management of Plinth data management system, including managing supplier relationship, monitoring data is inputted correctly and staff training and support; 

• Oversight of data requirements per programme and extraction of headline data information for board reports and general funding bids and reports; 

• Attend quarterly Commissioner Meetings with colleagues. 

Programme Administration 

• Maintain and update contracts and grants master spreadsheet; 

• Preparing paperwork for new contracts and grants agreements; 

• Prepare and issue contract invoices using Xero accounting system; 

• Monitor payment schedule using Xero and update SLT; 

• Coordinate with accountants when contract invoicing is linked to monthly payroll; 

• Planning and set up of new programmes. Supporting staff to launch programmes according to contract funding; 

• Management of core support across delivery programmes including but not limited to advice and assistance, baby buddies, group programmes etc; 

• Supporting SLT with preparation and submission of bid applications

Job Requirements 

Our work is place-based, and people focused. To be responsive to the community and to be able to support Shoreditch Trust activities, we do not offer remote working contracts. You will need to be flexible, working some evenings and weekends. ABOUT THE ROLE

The Head of Communications has responsibility for Ubele’s internal and external communications and digital activities in support of our strategic aims as well as oversight of communications across special projects. Central to the Head of Communications’ role is responsibility for: 

• Leading on delivery of Ubele’s Communications Strategy, public and internal communications with key audiences and stakeholders via various channels, especially Ubele’s website, email communications, social media and printed materials.  With support where needed, leading the delivery of a small number of annual and special events, working alongside colleagues and partners. 
• A crucial part of the role is working successfully with external partners, special projects comms teams, contractors and consultants to deliver on our communications objectives. 
• Reporting  to the COO and working closely with other senior leaders across departments to fulfil Ubele’s strategy.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

General Responsibilities/duties: 

• Oversight of all external communications activity relating to the work of the organisation, including websites, email newsletters and social media.   
• Oversight and management of the Creative Coordinator to effectively boost engagement and grow the organisation's social media channels.
• Guide and support the strategy that manages the creative outputs of the organisation across all projects and interests.
• Managing the organisation’s websites, ensuring content is correct and up to date, developing new webpages, functionalities and layouts as required, with support from an external website developer as needed. 
• Working closely with the Hub leads and programme managers to publicise training opportunities, events, funding programmes, and wider Ubele activities across the organisation’s communication channels. 
• Leading on cross-organisation conversations and convening cross-organisational groups to develop and coordinate a pipeline of content for blogs and case studies.
• Working with Hub Leads and our external PR support team (where relevant) to produce press releases including drafting quotes on behalf of the Leadership Team and coordinating the sign-off processes.
• Dealing with inbound press enquiries and crisis management comms with relevant support.

Brand and marketing 

• Ensuring consistent use of Ubele’s brand across internal and external print and digital channels. 
• Managing the design, print and distribution (as appropriate) of branded print and digital media, such as stationery, templates, invitations, leaflets and publications. 
• Leading on brand guidelines, ensuring that they are adopted correctly across the organisation. Providing training and guidance to staff, teams and external partners on the correct use of the brand.
• Working with Hub leads and Creative Coordinator to manage sub-brands of Ubele projects and programmes and ensure that these are reflected in the organisation’s brand guidelines. 

Planning & Delivery

• Deliver the communications strategy which will be set ahead of each financial year in line with the organisation’s wider strategic objectives by the organisation’s Management Board and Hub leads. 
• Lead and advise on the key narratives, the best modes of communication and how to best reach our target audiences.
• Provide advice and guidance on communications to the Leadership Team, including on crisis communications and reputational risk management with support of PR freelancers. 
• Setting and managing a communications calendar, supporting external-facing activities across Ubele’s work.
• Advise Ubele’s senior leaders on how activities including leadership training, provision of funding, social investment programmes, and various events might be publicised and communicated.
• Participate in internal strategy meetings, including reporting on Communications at the monthly staff team and leadership team meetings and, where required, at the Management Board meeting. 
• Maintain strong working relationships with key sector contacts, especially Communications Leads at partner organisations.

Events 

• Attend and/or coordinate Ubele’s presence at external events (sometimes out of normal office hours) relating to ongoing relationships (e.g. GLA or sector events) 
• Organise and/or support the delivery of special events as required
• Support Programme Managers as required to deliver events (both in-person and digital) leveraging our pool of freelance events support where necessary. 
• Support teams with media enquiries, ensuring that relevant team members are supported in public speaking events. 

Line management 

• Will be line managed by new Chief Operating Officer
• Oversee and manage the work of the Creative Coordinator
• Collaborate with the Lead Designer, our PR agency and our pool of freelance professionals.

General 

• Other tasks, commensurate with the post, that senior leadership may deem appropriate (including occasional support for work that cuts across other areas of Ubele’s work). 
• To attend and participate in internal and external meetings including staff meetings and meetings with key stakeholders.

External Communications Manager

Salary: £40,000–£42,000 FTE
Hours: 30 hours per week
Location: Remote, with regular travel to FitzRoy services, team and stakeholder meetings as agreed. The role requires attendance in London once per month and applicants must be able to commute to services in Norfolk, Nottingham and Hampshire.

Communications Manager

We are looking for an experienced, hands-on communications all-rounder with a breadth of skills to lead all regional and local communications activities in the areas where we are developing new Youth Zones.

About the Role

With 19 Open Youth Zones, supporting 60,000 young people, the organisation is moving into a period of steady growth towards their long-term goal of 35 Youth Zones by 2035. This role will take sole responsibility for communications activity across live and established projects including those currently in development.

This is a key role within the communications team that will see you create understanding and awareness between the charity and the key local and regional audiences that matter to us as. 

This role will involve managing a portfolio of end-to-end integrated communications and PR programmes across multiple Youth Zones at various stages of development. You will work closely with the teams, each Youth Zone’s relationship managers and fundraisers, as well as its CEO, and Trustee Board, and Young People's Development Group, acting as their trusted communications advisor. You will also collaborate with local stakeholders including Local Authority communications leads and supporters, to help establish the new Youth Zones as independent charities.

It is important to note that this role lays the foundations for each new Youth Zones’ ongoing communications approach. For each project you will be required to effectively and smoothly handover to the Youth Zones full time communication resource once in place while continuing to provide light touch ongoing support - so some experience mentoring or coaching and supporting others is beneficial.

About You

We will be looking for someone that can demonstrate a broad range of communications skills from brand development to working with local media to place newsworthy, positive stories around the Youth Zone development, to supporting the development of new Youth Zone websites and the launch of social media channels.

You will have experience of:

· Communications, either in agency or in house 

· All-round integrated communications experience, including PR, copywriting and digital

· Building relationships with journalists and working with the media

· Advising internal and external teams and stakeholders at all levels

· Working directly with young people.

Background Information and Purpose of Post

The Institutional Relations team is responsible for donor engagement and influencing, institutional funding, and partnerships in the UK. It comprises the Head of Institutional Relations, three Programme Funding Officers and an Institutional Funding Volunteer.

You will work as part of a dynamic team to support delivery and implementation of an ambitious institutional relations strategy. With a particular focus on the FCDO and START Network alongside growing Australian and Irish portfolios, the Institutional Relations team builds partnerships and maximises income and influence to achieve HI’s strategic aims. Given the changing external funding environment and evolving context in the UK, we are looking for an individual who is willing to be flexible and adapt to the context in order to meet the organisation’s needs and have the biggest impact for people with disabilities.

The main purpose of this post is to:

· Improve our track record for UK and other funding by increasing internal understanding of donors and funding mechanisms in your portfolio, supporting high quality submissions, grant management and donor compliance

· Strengthen relationships with, and generate and manage funding from, UK and other institutional donors and partners, particularly Irish and Australian donors

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Promoting our work and building relationships with institutional donors

Supporting the work of the Head of Institutional Relations, you will have sound knowledge of the donors and funding mechanisms in your portfolio and contribute proactively to influencing their funding strategies and priorities. Duties include:

· Maintain a good understanding of HI’s programmes, strategy and approach and communicate this externally.

· Identify and build relationships with a portfolio of large public and private institutional donors and their key suppliers (e.g. INGOs and for-profit development companies), mobilising colleagues from UK and across the global organisation as required.

· Work with country programmes to develop country-level action plans to engage with local representatives of UK donors and partners, in order to strengthen in-country relationships, influence donors’ country-level plans and access in-country funding opportunities. This will also involve supporting the development of multi-year operational plans and advise on the funding possibilities offered by UK institutional donors.

· Anticipate future trends and the expectations of the donors and funding mechanisms in your portfolio, influence their policies and strategies, and negotiate and consult with them on institutional funding matters, in liaison with the appropriate colleagues from the UK team and federal network.

· In coordination with the Head of Institutional Relations and the Chief Executive, monitor and where needed, contribute to collective work and advocacy initiatives in collaboration with partners and INGO networks (such as the Start Network and targeted Bond groups) with the aim of raising HI’s profile and influencing UK donors in line with our influencing priorities.

Generate and manage institutional funding from UK donors

You will follow and champion HI’s internal institutional funding procedures to identify and analyse funding opportunities from UK sources, contribute to project submissions, and carry out grant management duties. You will:

· Monitor, identify, analyse and communicate all relevant funding opportunities from donors in your portfolio (including development and humanitarian grant opportunities and commercial contracts). This will involve facilitating internal go/no go decision-making for new opportunities and advising and supporting programme colleagues on positioning and consortium-building when relevant.

· Lead the review and analysis of the requirements in new funding agreements and contracts, advise internal stakeholders on compliance and ensure appropriate contract negotiation and due diligence processes are followed.

· Implement internal procedures for contract/grant management, including information management, and support the submission of reporting and payment requests according to donor requirements.

Improve our track record for UK institutional funding

You will be responsible for increasing internal understanding of donors and funding mechanisms in your portfolio, particularly FCDO, Start Network, Australian DFAT and Irish Aid, supporting high quality strategic submissions and donor compliance. You will:

· Create internal communications, train and brief finance, programme and technical staff (including country programmes) on the donors in your portfolio, ensuring they have the tools and knowledge to comply with donor rules, understand donor priorities and focus areas, and maximise the potential for funding.

· Support proposal development, advising on donor requirements, expectations and preferences.

· Build strong relationships and internal links with technical and programme teams and contribute to internal working groups on issues related to institutional funding.

Other duties

· Maintain a positive and collaborative working relationship with HI UK colleagues and the Federal Institutional Funding, and Operations teams.

· Actively contribute to the HI UK operational plan and team work plans, and internal staff meetings.

· Ensure high quality, accurate internal reporting and information management for your portfolio.

The Head of Fundraising and Communications plays a pivotal role in shaping and driving Bowel Research UK's fundraising strategies and audience engagement initiatives.

This position is responsible for embedding and executing comprehensive fundraising strategies, growing the charity’s supporter base and income, building up new and under-developed income streams and communicating effectively with their audiences to expand their reach, and encourage financial and non-financial support to deliver the organisations mission.

You will have the autonomy and scope to drive elements of your work and take ownership of your own objectives. You will be required to collaborate on decisions to shape and deliver initiatives, programmes and processes as required for each area of income delivery. 

Key to the success of this role is a strong understanding of individual giving fundraising – an area that is underdeveloped at Bowel Research UK. This role blends the strategic oversight and leadership of a Head of Fundraising role, with the hands-on expertise of an IG fundraiser. Experience across other income streams would be a huge benefit as the role leads all fundraising income streams, but experience in individual giving is essential.

The successful candidate for this role will be someone who has already operated at a senior level within a charity such as at Senior Manager level, or Head of in a specific income stream.

Key responsibilities

• Support the Grants Manager to deliver our evolving grants and capacity building provision to the youth sector; bringing together our work to ensure a streamlined offer

• Support the grant making process including communications and outreach; application, selection, awarding, distribution, monitoring and evaluation working with the relevant departments.

• Maintain and develop grant management processes through our grant management system, Microsoft Dynamics, and working in partnership with colleagues from across the organisation

• Develop and maintain processes for creating application forms on our Grant Management System, informing applicants of decisions and tracking grant disbursements.

• Manage applications for funding through our grant management system and provide direct technical support to applicants.

• Provide light touch account management to grantees on specified programmes, as directed by the Grant Manager, responding to queries in a timely manner and connecting them into opportunities as appropriate.

• Work to distribute our grant funding to a diversity of organisations across the UK, ensuring it is delivered to improve impact and engages diverse audiences

• Lead on delivering grant funding panels and leasing with key stakeholders such as external assessors, and young assessors

• Maintain our grants management system in line with GDPR and manage data

• Working with Impact colleagues to manage data collection and monitoring processes and ensure activities achieve intended outputs and outcomes on time and to budget

• Establish and build strong relationships with awarded organizations and manage the distribution of funding to grantees and that they complete required monitoring and reporting

• Deliver end-to-end grantee support through the Grants Plus model, including onboarding to the grants platform, developing toolkits, and curating and sharing relevant resources.

• Support the Grants Manager in aligning grants work with wider organisational strategy, including connecting grantees to the broader network, and infrastructure support services.

• Manage and report progress to internal and external stakeholders via meetings, written reports and presentations

• Support the Grants Manager to raise the profile of UK Youth as a credible grants distributor through engagement in funder networks and connecting awarded organisations with local networks

• Manage the UK Youth Grants inboxes, responding to all enquiries in a timely fashion

• Communications and Public Affairs

• Deputise for the Grants Manager when required and work closely with colleagues to cover for each other as required

Experience we're after

• Grant management and distribution experience within the youth sector at a regional, local, and national level

• Experience in management and development of grant management systems and CRMs

• Experience of quality assurance and due diligence

• Monitoring and evaluation experience and an understanding of the importance of data in decision making
