What your role will involve

There are a variety of tasks that you can get involved with in the shop, including:

Overall purpose

Our Youth Club helps young people with complex medical needs and/or special educational needs to build confidence and develop independence and life skills. The Youth Club assistant will help the Activity Leads deliver our youth club for these young people and their siblings.

What will you do?

• Assist with various sports and leisure activities (e.g. table tennis, bowling, climbing), supporting the young people attending the club to participate
• Work with young people 1:1 or in small groups
• Help set up and clear away at the beginning and end of the sessions
• Participate in a briefing and de-briefing session before and after the club to help evaluate the skills, strengths and weaknesses of the young people after each session
• Help with any special projects the young people would like to do
• Attend initial training (half day)
• Attend a 1 hour supervision monthly meeting
• Liaise with the Youth club Lead in case of questions/difficulties
• Follow The Maypole Project policies and guidelines at all times whilst volunteering

Activities currently take place across the Bromley borough with regular outings to leisure facilities across South East London.

Time Commitment

Youth club takes place every week on Thursday evenings.

Swansea Community Workshops

The Board of Trustees are looking to recruit a knowledgeable and experienced individual for the voluntary role of Secretary (Board of Trustees). The main activity at Swansea Community Workshops (SCW) is to provide facilities for hobbies, recreation, and leisure time occupation in a socially interactive and practical environment, where there are skills sharing, learning of new skills, and helping community-based projects. As we are a charity, these facilities are for public benefit, specifically targeting socially excluded members of the local community in Swansea.

Role Overview

Title: Secretary (Voluntary) Reports to: Board of Trustees.

Hours: 3-6 hours per month as minimum. Attendance to monthly sub-committee meetings and bi-monthly Board of Trustee meetings is expected.

Role Summary

The Secretary is responsible for the recording and documentation of all charity and Trustee meetings.

• Leading the charity to enable it to fulfil its purpose.

We are seeking to recruit a Vice Chair and four Trustees to join us to help us achieve our ambitious goals for a fairer and more effective criminal justice system.

The Criminal Justice Alliance (CJA) is a network of 200+ organisations and academics working towards a fair and effective criminal justice system. Working with our members, the CJA brings together a broad and diverse range of expertise across the sector, championing and elevating the voices of those directly impacted by the criminal justice system. 

We are in an exciting time of growth and development as we continue our ambitious and much-needed work, focusing on systemic change, constructive criminal justice journalism, race equity and lived experience leadership. 

The CJA is committed to achieving greater diversity in its trustees and staff, particularly as there are issues affecting individuals from non-majority backgrounds across the criminal justice system. We actively encourage applications from minority ethnic communities and people with protected characteristics. We also welcome applications from younger people and from first-time trustees.

What your role will involve

There are a variety of tasks that you can get involved with in the shop, including:

• Welcoming and assisting customers, providing great customer service and a fantastic shopping experience
• Receiving donated goods from members of the public
• Sorting, steaming, tagging and preparing donated goods for sale
• Creating eye catching window and in-shop displays
• Keeping the shop floor well stocked, tidy, clean and organised
• Processing sales and serving on the till
• Promoting Gift Aid and other Sense fundraising initiatives
• Acting as an ambassador for Sense; promoting the shop and Sense in your local community
• Supporting with the recruitment and training of new volunteers
• Following new health and safety measures to ensure the safety of everyone

Youth representative invited to join charity Board of Trustees!

Do you have lived experience as a refugee or asylum seeker?

Are you aged 17 – 25 years?

New Citizens’ Gateway is seeking a youth representative to join their Board of Trustees, and you could be an amazing part of helping this charity grow. This will be a fantastic opportunity to gain new skills, including learning how charities run and building leadership and networking abilities. No experience required and trustee training will be offered.

New Citizens’ Gateway is a charity in Barnet, London that empowers refugees and asylum seekers to foster a sense of belonging, integrate into the UK and rebuild their lives, through advice and guidance, campaigning, ESOL classes, community classes and groups, counselling, wellbeing services, youth activities and mentoring. 

Board meetings are held four times a year in addition to attending occasional networking, fundraising and ceremonial events and meetings. All reasonable expenses will be covered by the charity. We anticipate a 1-2 hour monthly time commitment.
