Thyroid UK is a small UK charity with a very wide reach and even bigger ambitions. Since 1998 we have become a leading source of support and information for many thousands of people seeking help with their thyroid condition each year.

As an Independent Examiner for Thyroid UK, you will review our accounting records and annual accounts to ensure they are accurate, comply with legal requirements, and provide an independent assurance to trustees and stakeholders that the charity's money is properly accounted for. 

Job Description:

Overview:

• The Independent Examiner plays a crucial role in maintaining public trust and confidence in charities by providing an independent scrutiny of their financial records. 
• The examiner's responsibilities include reviewing accounting records, comparing them with the annual accounts, and reporting any concerns to the charity trustees. 

Key Responsibilities:

• Review Accounting Records:

Examine the charity's accounting records to ensure they are properly maintained and support the annual accounts. 

• Compare Accounts with Records:

Verify that the annual accounts accurately reflect the financial position of the charity as shown in the accounting records. 

• Consider Unusual Items:

Identify and seek explanations for any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts. 

• Assess Compliance:

Determine whether the accounts comply with relevant legal requirements and accounting standards, including the Charities Act 2011. 

• Prepare Examiner's Report:

Prepare a report for the charity trustees outlining the findings of the examination, including any matters of concern or material significance. 

• Maintain Independence:

Ensure that the examination is conducted independently of the charity's management and administration. 

Qualifications and Skills:

• Financial Awareness and Numeracy: 

Must be appropriately qualified in matters of accounting and financial administration. 

• Understanding of Charity Accounting: 

Should have experience of working with small charities, plus knowledge of charity accounting principles and regulations. 

• Analytical Skills: 

Must be able to analyse financial data and identify potential issues. 

• Communication Skills: 

Should have the ability to clearly and concisely communicate findings and recommendations to the charity trustees. 

• IT Skills: 

Must be familiar with Xero or similar cloud based accounting software.

Reporting:

• The Independent Examiner's report will be submitted to the Charity Commission along with the charity's annual accounts. 
• The report should clearly state whether the examiner has reasonable cause to believe that:
  • Proper accounting records were not kept. 
  • The accounts do not accord with the accounting records. 
  • If accruals accounts were prepared, they do not comply with the legal requirements and the applicable SORP. 

Location: The examination can be done remotely.  Our office is based in Frating, Colchester, Essex.

Who are LRMN?

We offer refugees, asylum seekers and other migrants a specialist and holistic service. We advocate for people’s rights, campaign for wider change, meet their basic needs and help them improve their wellbeing.

Why do we need you?

Access to Healthcare has a very small team that works with clients to get over problems they have in getting healthcare. This might include helping them register with a GP, get medical records, find emergency medical treatment, understand what their rights to healthcare are, and encourage people to find out about vaccinations.  We also advise and support clients if they have been charged for NHS treatment.

What activities will you be involved in?

As part of our Access to Healthcare volunteer team you will:

• Help clients register with GPs – this might involve:

  • finding a GP local to the client

  • calling surgeries to enquire/explain the right to register

  • explaining process to a client and sharing links/info

  • following up with clients to ensure they were able to register

• Help clients access other medical services, as needed

• Help clients understand the services we offer and how to access them

• Help plan and run small community engagement projects around access to healthcare

• Take on other administrative tasks as identified from time to time

You will report to the Access to Healthcare Advisor but will liaise with staff across the organisation as appropriate.

Is there induction and training?

Yes, we provide a comprehensive induction to all new volunteers. This covers roles and responsibilities, safeguarding, record keeping and use of our client management system (Advice Pro).You will be provided with the training needed to perform the role and will have the opportunity to join training with the whole LRMN team.

What commitment do you need to make?

Friends of Bennerley Viaduct (FoBV) is a community organisation based in Derbyshire formed in 2015 with the purpose of safeguarding the Bennerley Viaduct Grade II* listed structure and its surrounding environment. Since 2019, when the organisation became a CIO, it has grown thanks to funding which led to the building of full access onto the viaduct, a new visitor centre and café and the development of an activity programme encompassing both formal and informal learning.

Lively Minds is a fast growing innovative charity that gets pre-school children in rural Ghana and Uganda school-ready. We are looking for a seasoned Treasurer/Financial Trustee to support the Chair and Board, as we expand our operations.

What will you be doing?

Lively Minds is an award-winning UK registered Charity working to get pre-schoolers in rural Ghana and Uganda school-ready. One of the main barriers to school-readiness is that parents in remote communities lack the information, education and aspiration to provide basic and cheap opportunities for their children. 

Our behaviour change programme empowers uneducated & marginalised Mothers to run educational Play Schemes for pre-schoolers and to provide better home-based care, using cheap local resources. The charity is proud that it has been proven through a randomised control trial to improve children’s cognitive and socio-emotional development and to reduce child acute malnutrition. These are exciting times for Lively Minds. The Government of Ghana have adopted the Lively Minds programme and we are now supporting them to scale it to over 4000 communities. 

We are also seeking to develop a similar partnership and scale-up strategy in Uganda. We plan to expand to other countries too over the next few years and are also exploring how we can take on more of a thought leadership role in the global Early Childhood Development (ECD) space. Lively Minds is supported to deliver in its mission by a selection of well-respected international innovation funders.

The Treasurer will play a vital governance and support role in helping us achieve these goals and will join a skilled, diverse and friendly Board.

You will be a key member of the Board and in collaboration with the CEO and CFO monitor the financial aspects of the charity - cash flow, income, expenses and strategic management of Lively Minds resources. The role of the Trustee is to assist in advancing the purpose of the organisation; developing its aims and goals, keeping within its charitable objectives and acting in its best interests. The board members ensure that the charity is run in accordance with its governing document, charity law, and any other laws and regulations which affect its activities.

Our Trustee Board are responsible for developing strategy, providing governance, and directing the charity towards achieving its mission.  We are looking to appoint two new trustees – the first being from the building and maintenance sector – with the experience and knowledge to support the health and safety responsibilities of a growing charity, and the second being a HR professional who will chair our Personnel Sub Committee with special responsibility for oversight of the organisation’s HR function and strategy, ideally you will be a Chartered Member or Fellow of the CIPD with substantial experience at a Senior/Director HR professional level with a thorough understanding of operational HR policy and practice.

An understanding of the role of charity boards and their responsibilities and operation, gained through previous experience would be helpful, and above all else you will be intrinsically values-driven and committed to enabling more individuals we support to live their lives to the full.

Across the UK, our 270 local groups play a vital part in supporting people affected by MS. They provide sense of belonging, unity and friendship. And they deliver services and support for their local MS community.

We are looking to recruit a Group Coordinator for our Dundee group. As our local Group Coordinator you’ll take the lead in making sure your local group works as effectively as possible. You’ll recruit, induct and support other group volunteers to make sure your group’s activities meet the needs of your local MS community. In this role you’ll be able to develop your leadership, management, communication, organisation and motivation skills. 

Time Commitment

We estimate this role will need around 5 hours a week. Our roles are flexible and aim to fit around you. Time commitments for this role may vary depending on your activities. This is an ongoing role.

This is a great opportunity to gain experience within a large charity and develop your existing skills and learn new ones. We need you to get involved and help make positive changes to the lives of people affected by MS.

About you

You’ll have an interest in the MS Society and the work that we do, as well as the enthusiasm to represent both us and our values locally. You will understand the needs of people affected by MS in your area and be sympathetic to the needs and motivations of volunteers. You’ll be confident using Microsoft Office, the internet and email. You’ll be able to apply disability, equality and inclusion practices and understand and apply our risk management system. Ideally you’ll understand the local area and organisations that provide local services.

You will be reliable and easy to contact and you need to live in or near the Dundee area to carry out this role.

We work with people who need support with their mental health across London and the South East. Our support ranges from registered accommodation services for people with severe mental health conditions to drop-in community and crisis services.

In the last year, 9,499 adults accessed Hestia’s mental health support.

We help people to feel safe, develop hope for a better future, and achieve their personal goals. These goals may include rebuilding relationships with family members and friends or connecting more with their local community.

• Lead engaging chair yoga sessions for participants of mixed ages and abilities
• Assisting participants with the correct movements and breathing techniques
• Provide a supportive and welcoming environment, encouraging participation
• Provide guidance and support to help individuals to enhance their flexibility, strength and relaxation

The Vice-Chair supports the Area Chair in the leadership of Ramblers' activities in East and West Sussex including the provision through the Groups in the Area of organised walks, helping to ensure the Groups are run well, follow good practice and join in national/Area initiatives, the protection of rights of way, and and the preservation and conservation of, the countryside, includung representing the Area to external stakeholders.

The Vice-Chair deputises for the Area Chair, as required, at meetings of the Area leadership teams (Area Council and Area Executive Committee), represents the Area at meetings of the Ramblers' South East Regional Cluster and, in agreement with the Area Chair, leads specific projects in which the Area is engaged, making sure in all cases that Ramblers' policies and procedures are followed with a view to ensuring that the Area, its members and volunteers are kept safe and legally compliant.

The Vice-Chair supports the Chair in managing the Area's working relationship with local authorities, organisations and politicians.

The Vice-Chair assists the Chair by making sure that the Area follows all of the required governance, including AGMs and attendance at Ramblers' General Council Meetings.

The role holderwill work closely with the Chair and other members of the Area Executive Committee and Area Council, and where necessary seek advice and guidance from Ramblers' central office.

You will need to be a member of the Ramblers and live in East or West Sussex to hold the role.

Volunteering for Sense

Our amazing team of volunteers help us run over 100 shops across England and Wales.  Every donated item that you sort, prepare and sell helps to raise vital funds to support us in our mission to make sure no one, no matter how complex their disabilities, is isolated, left out, or unable to fulfil their potential. Our shops are at the heart of local communities – sharing the work of Sense, and helping to secure support for our life changing work.

What your role will involve

There are a variety of tasks that you can get involved with in the shop, including:

• Welcoming and assisting customers, providing great customer service and a fantastic shopping experience
• Receiving donated goods from members of the public
• Sorting, steaming, tagging and preparing donated goods for sale
• Creating eye catching window and in-shop displays
• Keeping the shop floor well stocked, tidy, clean and organised
• Processing sales and serving on the till
• Promoting Gift Aid and other Sense fundraising initiatives
• Acting as an ambassador for Sense; promoting the shop and Sense in your local community
• Supporting with the recruitment and training of new volunteers
• Following new health and safety measures to ensure the safety of everyone

As an Assistant Roller Skate Coach, you will work alongside the Head Coach to assist in delivering roller skating sessions to participants of varying skill levels. This volunteer position offers an excellent opportunity to gain coaching experience and contribute to the development of our community-based programs. 

Key Responsibilities 

• Assist the Head Coach in delivering roller skating lessons to individuals and groups. 

• Support participants during practice sessions, helping with technique and safety. 

• Encourage and motivate participants to improve their roller skating skills. 

• Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants during sessions. 

• Help with setup, breakdown, and maintaining the equipment. 

• Assist in the tracking of participant progress and provide constructive feedback. 

• Maintain a positive and supportive environment for all skaters. 

• Promote RollaDome All Skate’s mission and encourage community involvement. 

Skills & Qualifications 

• Passion for roller skating and enthusiasm for teaching others. 

• Previous experience in roller skating or coaching (desirable). 

• Strong communication skills and ability to work well with others. 

• Good organisational skills and attention to detail. 

• Ability to support and motivate participants. 

• First aid qualification (desirable, but not essential). 

• Reliable, proactive, and positive attitude.

• Minimum 15 hours per week, with flexible hours.

We have 250 local groups which play a vital part in supporting people affected by MS across the UK. They provide sense of belonging, unity and friendship. And they deliver services and support for their local MS community.

We are looking to recruit a Co-Group Coordinator for our London Borough of Sutton group. As our local Co-Group Coordinator you’ll take the lead, alongside our existing Group Coordinator, in making sure your local group works as effectively as possible. You’ll recruit, induct and support other group volunteers to make sure your group’s activities meet the needs of your local MS community. In this role you’ll be able to develop your leadership, management, communication, organisation and motivation skills. 

Time Commitment

We estimate this role will need around 5 hours a week. Our roles are flexible and aim to fit around you. Time commitments for this role may vary depending on your activities. This is an ongoing role.

This is a great opportunity to gain experience within a large charity and develop your existing skills and learn new ones. We need you to get involved and help make positive changes to the lives of people affected by MS.

About you

You’ll have an interest in the MS Society and the work that we do, as well as the enthusiasm to represent both us and our values locally. You will understand the needs of people affected by MS in your area and be sympathetic to the needs and motivations of volunteers. You’ll be confident using Microsoft Office, the internet and email. You’ll be able to apply disability, equality and inclusion practices and understand and apply our risk management system. Ideally you’ll understand the local area and organisations that provide local services.

You will be reliable and easy to contact and you need to live in or near the London Borough of Sutton area to carry out this role.
