About the role
The Events Officer plays a key role in our highly effective communications team, leading on the delivery of an impactful programme of events – both online and in person. The role works with teams from across the organisation to plan, deliver and promote all types of events, including workshops, roundtables, conferences, webinars, receptions and other types of online and in person events.
Events are an important way for Ageing Better to influence priority audiences, including businesses and local and national government, and the postholder will advise teams on how events can best reach these audiences, encourage engagement and lead to lasting relationships.
This role sits within the Communications team, and the postholder will be responsible for drafting comms content, such as blogs and social media posts, particularly in relation to event promotion.
About you
You are highly organised, with excellent prioritisation and project management skills, enabling you to juggle multiple projects simultaneously. You have good attention to detail and enjoy planning, solving logistical problems and delivering events to a tight budget.
You are a good communicator and are comfortable working in close partnership with colleagues and dealing with a wide range of people.
You will have experience of organising events, including technical experience of managing online events and streaming.

Role Summary
This position provides key support for the policy and research functions of the charity, in addition to collaborating on campaigns and public affairs work. You will be responsible for carrying out primary research relevant to the charity’s policy and research functions. You’ll be monitoring and collating new policy and research materials and contributing to public communications including report-writing, blog posts and social media activity. You’ll be providing input into strategic planning regarding policy and research activities. You’ll connect with researchers and policy people from other charities and from universities. Finally, you’ll be attending conferences and meetings on behalf of the charity.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
Policy

Support the P&RM, DR&PA and CEO in responding to public consultations, advising policymakers and working with national policy and research bodies as appropriate.

Represent the charity in meetings with policy partners where appropriate.

Attend policy and research conferences on behalf of the charity, providing feedback to the team on key learning and opportunities that arise.

Work with the SC&PA and DR&PA to draw up influencing strategies to target key stakeholders on policy priorities.

Monitor external research that helps our policy work and opportunities for collaboration.

Research

Work with the P&RM to carry out research activities relevant to the policy and research functions of the charity; including collating and analysing data, and co-authoring reports for both internal and public purposes.

Work with the P&RM and the Communications and Marketing teams to produce engaging and accessible communication of research findings for a range of audiences.

Monitor and collate new policy and research materials, including research reports, policy documents and media activity. Work with the P&RM to produce internal reports where appropriate and to ensure the charity’s activities reflect and respond to the wider policy and research environment.

Work with the P&RM on external research projects funded by the charity, including support with assessing the quality of bids by external researchers.
Across both areas

Produce social media communications where relevant to policy and research. Work with colleagues across the Research and Public Affairs and Communications and Marketing teams to develop strategies for maximising impact, especially in digital communications.

Contribute to strategic planning by contributing to staff meetings, producing supporting materials and providing feedback on public affairs.

The post holder will play a crucial role in helping Health Equals to build its online presence and following, supporting its objective to raise awareness of how our health is shaped by the building blocks of health. Content Planning

- Write, proof and edit a variety of digital communications across the organisation, such as blogs and web content to ensure brand and tone of voice is consistent and correct
- Attend student events to capture photos and videos content to use for marketing purposes and provide live social media coverage to a high standard
- Work with Designer to turn copy into engaging, high quality assets
- Have your finger on the pulse for all latest trends for the student audience and evaluate their feasibility without audiences and available resources
- Be aware of shareable, engaging content, sourcing content from external channels to build an engaged following and boost our content on social media

We’re looking for an experienced and proactive online community professional to join our friendly and supportive Peer Support team. This role is part of our peer support services team and will be responsible for supporting our online peer support communities, including our forum and Facebook groups.
The post holder will work directly with the Peer Support Manager and the Senior Online Communities Officer, as well as with colleagues from across the charity to develop our online communities, helping us to reach and support more people affected by bowel cancer and those concerned about symptoms, risk and pre-diagnosis.

Some of the key responsibilities:
- Leading on strategically planned engagement and growth across all our communications audiences, channels and initiatives. Including defined communications moments, brand engagement, UK advocacy communications and cross departmental campaigns.
- Own War Child UK’s voice and brand, providing consistency in tone and messaging across all channels and ensuring that our voice and brand is engaging to our wide range of audiences
- Lead on creating and assessing opportunities for cross departmental communications campaigns to increase fundraising and/or brand awareness, including overarching narratives and key campaigns each year
- To provide first-rate line management to the Communications & Content team and line manage the Marketing Lead and PR Manager. You will model excellence in management that will result in the team thriving in their roles, with high standards of performance and behavior, and team members that are developed to achieve their best, whilst maintaining strong wellbeing. As a Head of, you will model these high standards of performance and behavior to support the Fundraising Engagement Director and other functions across War Child UK.
- Use your experience to provide insight and recommendations to the Fundraising Engagement Director and War Child UK CEO when communications decisions are needed
- In most instances you will be accountable for the successful delivery of campaigns led by others in your team, in some instances – including cross departmental communications campaigns - you will lead on end to end delivery
You will be:
- Strategic, with experience of designing and delivering communications strategies across a wide portfolio
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a high degree of emotional intelligence to deal with a variety and internal and external stakeholders and the ability to build effective working relationships at all levels.
- A diverse knowledge of communications delivery, with the ability to transfer this knowledge and adapt your experience to different audiences, objectives and campaigns
- Experience of team resource and people management and able to delegate tasks in a clear and concise manner.
- A clear understanding of the importance of brand behaviour and having a strong tone of voice. You are able to use this to instil ways of working across an organisation to achieve success
- Able to set up and manage a successful press function
- Experience of policy and advocacy initiatives, delivering public facing advocacy campaigns and getting traction in the media
- Experience of humanitarian emergencies and managing a media responses to work for a UK market.

You will:
- Demonstrate a strong track record of developing brand and market positioning, using analytical tools to ensure effective communications, acting as brand gatekeeper, coordinating consistent communication of key messages, and tasks.

The Head of Fundraising & Communications will operate as an effective member of the Leadership Team, reporting directly to the CEO and acting as the strategic lead for Baca’s fundraising and communications activity.
Given the fluctuating nature of statutory income (currently c.75% of total income) it will be the responsibility of the Head of Fundraising & Communications to develop and implement a fundraising strategy that enables the organisation to diversify its income portfolio, ensuring a sustainable funding model that spreads risk and allows for greater donor engagement.

The Centre for Transforming Access and Student Outcomes in Higher Education (TASO) is an affiliate What Works Centre, and part of the UK Government’s What Works Movement. TASO was set up in 2019 and became an independent charity in April 2021. Our work focuses on the generation, synthesis and dissemination of high-quality evidence about effective practice in widening participation and student outcomes. The Role
The Head of Communications and Engagement will lead TASO’s communications and engagement work plan to raise the profile of the organisation. They will also lead on TASO’s evidence mobilisation work plan, working with the Chief Executive, to ensure TASO’s research and evaluation outputs are effectively disseminated.
This will involve ensuring a strategic approach to all communications activities, leading on the delivery of external-facing materials and publications, overseeing a vibrant social media presence and events programme.
