The International Rescue Committee (IRC) helps people whose lives have been shattered by conflict and disaster to survive, recover and rebuild. Founded in 1933 at the call of Albert Einstein, we first helped people fleeing violence and persecution in Europe find safety in the United States.
Today, we work in over 50 crisis-affected countries, bringing ingenuity, fortitude and optimism to making a lasting impact for the people we serve. We arrive at the onset of crisis and aim to stay as long as we are needed. We also help refugees and other vulnerable people integrate into their new communities across dozens of cities in Europe and the Americas.
The IRC is committed to a culture of bold leadership, innovation in all aspects of our work, creative partnerships and, most crucially, accountability to those we serve. The IRC is a tireless advocate for the most vulnerable.
IRC UK
IRC UK is a registered charity in the UK and forms part of the IRC’s global network. Our team in the UK works to raise profile, deliver policy and practice change, and increase funding to help restore health, safety, education, economic wellbeing and power to people devastated by conflict and disaster. To this end, Board members work closely with IRC UK’s leaders in setting strategic direction in areas such as fundraising, advocacy, communication, people and culture, and also technical oversight of UK programmes. Canopy
are on a mission to make shopping sustainably easier for everyone.
Fast fashion retailers and cheap plastic products are still wrecking our planet and choking our waterways. We need to buy better. But big retailers are now consistently greenwashing, misleading the very people who are trying to do their bit. It's left nearly 50% of consumers finding it too complicated to even try to shop sustainably. For consumers to shop sustainably they have to go through multiple user journeys on different platforms with very little support in moving from one to the next. Verifying claims, learning about swaps, making a purchase, and tracking your impact accurately are all separated and difficult to do.
We need to remove the barriers, streamline the user journey and give back proper trust. Canopey is the only platform to completely streamline the ethical consumer journey. They bring thousands of verified sustainable products into one online marketplace with powerful impact stats to show the Co2e, water waste, and plastic waste saved per purchase compared to the mainstream alternative. Canopey helps guide you through the minefield of greenwashing to empower everyone to buy better. On one platform, with one user journey, and one mission.
Responsibilities
-
They are looking for a VOLUNTEER Sustainability Expert who is passionate about environmental issues. Your main role will be to help support the team in our work verifying the green claims made by brands that want to list their products on Canopey. These duties are integral to the business and ensure we can provide UK shoppers a go-to platform for curated, trustworthy products, so we're looking for someone with expertise and education in this field.
-
Responsibilities include: - Evaluating and verifying sustainability claims and evidence from suppliers and brands to ensure they meet our standards. - Working closely with the Canopey team to review and improve our sustainability criteria and guidelines. - Opportunity to work on research and development of new sustainability initiatives or programs. - Potential to also contribute to social media content and blogs we put out which focus on sustainability topics - Participating in workshops and seminars to stay updated on the latest sustainability trends and practices. - Collaborating with other team members to promote a holistic approach to sustainability across all aspects of the business. This role offers a great opportunity to gain experience in the field of sustainability, work with the world's most innovative brands, and work with a team that is dedicated to making a huge positive difference in the world. Canopey is all about creating a hub for sustainable living and we're always looking for new exciting ideas, so this role will have lots of opportunities to help develop new parts of the business and provide input on the content we put out. We look forward to hearing from you!

Who we are
Rivers, lakes, and coastal waters across the UK are among the richest and most cherished habitats supporting diverse species of fish, mammals, insects, and plants—they are also some of the most vulnerable. Our rivers and other water bodies have historically suffered from pollution, over-abstraction, and host of other impacts which can prove devastating to fragile water ecosystems.
Fish Legal fights to protect all inland and coastal waters in the UK from pollution and other damage. We use the full range of the law—common, statutory, public, and criminal—and we have a long track record of winning cases and securing compensation to enable our members to restore their waters.
Our solicitors (both English and Scots-qualified) represent Fish Legal’s member clubs, fisheries, and riparian owners in seeking compensation from offenders who cause pollution or other damage to rivers and still waters—the compensation we win goes back to those members to carry out habitat work or re-stock the waters.
We obtain injunctions to prevent activities which threaten to damage the aquatic environment and, if broken, offenders can find themselves in contempt of court and can even be jailed.
Funds raised by Fish Legal as well as funds donated by individuals, angling clubs, and federations are effectively pooled so that no one person must foot the costs of bringing defendants to court.
Our sister organisation, the Angling Trust, is the national governing body for the sport of angling in England as well as a leading voice in the protection and enhancement of the aquatic environment—working alongside partner NGOs to advocate greater environmental protection, lobby for positive change, and influence policy development.
Want to join us?
There are currently up to three vacancies and we would love to welcome those who can add to the mix of our committee members by bringing new thinking styles, backgrounds, personalities, and perspectives to our table—and we believe we could make even better decisions if we had a more inclusive mix of people from under-represented communities on our board in order to more closely represent our wonderfully diverse members today.
Email our Governance Manager, Karen Watkinson, to apply directly or arrange an informal chat about the role—and do let us know if you require any additional support to enable your application.
To apply, please submit your CV along with a covering letter to tell us a bit more about how you will add to the mix of our committee and strengthen our effectiveness with your skillset, perspective, background, or thinking style.

Could you become a CRT Trustee?
Are you passionate about restoring the countryside? About maintaining working farms and woods, promoting nature- and landscape-friendly farming?
Do you have professional skills in ecology, conservation, environmental land management, nature-friendly farming, countryside education and/or community engagement, fundraising or marketing, and live near one of our major properties? And ... would you be prepared to offer your time and experience as a Trustee?
The Countryside Regeneration Trust is seeking new trustees to help to steer the charity forward at a very exciting time. Our plans for the next ten years will involve greater engagement with local communities around our larger farms in Cambridgeshire, Herefordshire, Dorset and south-east England. We are also stepping up agroecological approaches to land management, with nature at the heart of food production. This includes new activities to restore nature where opportunities exist to do so.

As a national charity, the CRT is supported by a team of staff, contractors and tenant farmers who undertake the day-to-day work of the organisation. The Trustees provide essential oversight for them.

Jail Time Records is a non profit record label producing the music of incarcerated and formerly incarcerated artists from prisons in Cameroon and Burkina Faso. We built the first recording studio inside an African prison in the Central Prison of Douala-Cameroon. Jail Time Records believes that art and creativity can be used as powerful instruments for change, integration and rehabilitation. Incarcerated populations are amongst the most marginalised communities worldwide, and particularly in Africa. The punitive justice system in place does little to help those incarcerated reintegrate into society, and society sees incarceration as a sign of stigma and taboo. In Cameroon's prisons rehabilitation programs are almost inexistent.
We bring cultural activities and programs to one of the most marginalised communities in Cameroon and Burkina Faso, the incarcerated population. Through music and visual arts we stimulate inmates and former inmates to engage positively, find ways to express themselves non violently, and find hope and trust in new ways of being. Through the work of the prisoners that we publish and promote, we help transform the way society sees incarceration.
GRANT WRITER
- Help identify and apply for grants and funds that will help Jail Time Records' sustainability. There is potential for this role to become a full-time paid position in the future.
- Volunteer 2-3 hours per week for 3-5 months
