About The Role
Volunteers are integral to the running of our Welney reserve and visitor centre and without their help we wouldn’t be able to welcome our visitors to this amazing 1300 acre wetland of international importance. Our volunteer team are friendly and committed, and say they benefit by gaining new experiences, meeting new people and sharing the story of our work.
At WWT Welney Wetland Centre we want to ensure that our visitors receive a warm, friendly welcome to ensure they have a memorable visit to our Visitor Centre and Reserve. In this role, you will be helping to bring people of all ages and backgrounds closer to wetland wildlife, by providing assistance for visitors to explore the reserve and learn about WWT’s pioneering wetland conservation work, to save wetlands for wildlife and people. In this role you will support the delivery of a range of interactive visitor engagement activities, including guided walks, and other seasonal activities, drawing people in by telling engaging stories about our work and inspiring people to support us as members of the WWT.
On a day-to-day basis, you’ll be answering visitor questions, helping them to navigate the reserve, and identifying basic wildlife. You'll get regular briefings to keep you up to date with what's going on at the centre, and we can offer coaching to help you feel more confident talking to our visitors and leading guided activities.
Volunteers are an essential part of the WWT team. You'll get a warm welcome, including information on training, equipment and anything else you need.

About You
This role will suit you if you have a positive, friendly, can-do attitude and are committed to delivering excellent customer service. Welney has a close-working team, however, the ability to work under your own initiative and being self-motivated during quieter times is also needed. You’ll have a real interest in and enthusiasm for WWT’s work, nature and the outdoors and can share this with others. Having, or being happy to develop, the confidence to engage our visitors simply and effectively around their needs is also a key part of this role, being a good communicator in English (other languages are also useful!).

Practicalities
Where will you be based? Welney Wetland Centre
Who will you volunteer with? Visitor Engagement Team, Events & Marketing Officer
Time commitment? We are looking for volunteers who can ideally commit to one day a week on a regular basis. Shifts are from 9.15am to 3pm, with suitable breaks. However, we will mutually agree the hours that you can contribute.
We want your volunteering to be a positive and fun experience. You’ll get a warm welcome, including information on training, equipment and other information you need. This will include risk assessments based on your role and any particular support you need. Volunteers receive access to our sites, and discounts in our shops and cafes. Some roles include a uniform or require the use of equipment or protective clothing. If you are based at a particular site or office location, you’ll need to be able to get yourself there and back. Information on locations can be found on our website. We will keep you up to date with what’s happening across WWT and the difference you will be helping to make happen.

About the Event
The Slieve Donard Trek is a fully guided 11km hike, climbing 840 metres over 5–8 hours. Participants will challenge themselves on forest trails and steep ground to reach the summit — and we’ll be there to cheer them on every step of the way.
Volunteer Roles
Before the Trek (08:00–10:00):
- Welcome participants as they arrive
- Help with check-in and registration
- Cheer them off as they begin their trek
After the Trek (13:00–18:00):
- Help set up the post-trek reception
- Welcome participants back and congratulate them
- Hand out medals and thank them for supporting Mencap
- Create a fun and celebratory atmosphere with clappers, whistles and big smiles

About Us
Unseen Expeditions UK is a newly forming Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) supporting mission-led charities and expedition projects across the UK and internationally. Our flagship initiative, The Unseen Mile, is a 4.5-year journey covering 25,000 miles across 37 countries. Role Overview
We are seeking a Media Trustee to join our board and lead the charity’s media strategy and content creation. This trustee will help share the charity’s projects, expeditions, and mission with a wide audience, while having the freedom to retain their work for personal portfolio use.
Key Responsibilities
· Develop and oversee the charity’s media strategy:
· Create or advise on multimedia content (photo, video, audio, digital)
· Support engagement with media outlets and online audiences
· Advise on storytelling, branding, and public-facing communications
· Assist with reporting and media-related updates to stakeholders
· Contribute to trustee meetings and governance
· Delegate to editing volunteers within the Media Committee
· Help guide the charity through its registration and initial set-up
Person Specification & Requirements:
· Experience or interest in media production, content creation, or storytelling
· Strong communication and creative skills
· Commitment to the mission and values of Unseen Expeditions and its partnered charities
· Ability to work collaboratively with a small, remote trustee team
· Comfortable working remotely and communicating online with a UK-wide board
· UK-based (required for legal trustee responsibilities)
· 2–4 hours per month commitment (more during start-up if possible)

In this role you’ll be able to develop your organisation, communication and team working skills.Most importantly you’ll inspire your local community to raise funds that help make sure no one has to face MS alone.
Time Commitment
We estimate this role will need around 2 hours a week. Our roles are flexible and aim to fit around you. Time commitments for this role may vary depending on your activities. This is an ongoing role.
This is a great opportunity to gain experience within a large charity and develop your existing skills and learn new ones. We need you to get involved and help make positive changes to the lives of people affected by MS.
About you
You’ll have an interest in the MS Society and the work that we do, as well as the enthusiasm to represent both us and our values locally. You will understand the needs of people affected by MS in your area and be sympathetic to the needs and motivations of volunteers. You’ll be confident using Microsoft Office, the internet and email. You’ll be able to apply disability, equality and inclusion practices and understand and apply our risk management system. Ideally you’ll understand the local area and organisations that provide local services.
You will be reliable and easy to contact and you need to live in or near the area the group to carry out this role.
