Our Visitor Welcome volunteers create a positive first impression with a warm welcome; helping all visitors get all they need from their visit. You’ll also help us provide a personalised thank you, leaving people with a positive lasting impression.

Tasks and responsibilities

• Creating warm welcomes for every visitor, putting their needs first
• Sharing information, answering questions and helping visitors get the most out of their visit.
• Giving personalised ‘goodbyes’ and heartfelt ‘thank yous’
• Multi-tasking across the site to help us keep the property looking fabulous, reporting where something may need attention.
• Looking out for ways to do the little things that make a big difference. This might include driving visitors around on our Shuttle, or supporting in the bookshop.
• Helping visitors get their bearings and informing on the best routes around the property depending on their needs and our offer.
• Finding out what’s on offer at Ickworth and other local sites, so you can encourage people to do more, stay longe and bring others. Promote the National Trust and deepen their connection to our cause.
• Keeping in touch with the wider team, so you know what’s happening, particularly during event days.
• You are important in making sure things run as smoothly as possible – this includes getting to know health and safety and evacuation procedures.

Improving Wellbeing including activities to address social isolation for example a community allotment, bee keeping, chatty tables, Craft tables, games evenings and a Cinema Club -aimed at reducing social isolation in the elderly. We have a number of mental health initiatives and have trained 20 Community Champions - who can give basic advice on mental and physical health issues. We organise various community events for example an Easter Egg Hunt, Christmas Fayre and Coach outing to the coast.

Community Enablement Signposting to support, including access to Citizens advice, food bank and support groups. Employment support - provided by partners at the Hub to assist path to employment and increase employability. Up-skilling and training of volunteers and Lead volunteers to put skills back into our community, IT support

The Board is currently composed of six trustees and two associate trustees. We employ a manager, four part time office staff and three caretakers who conduct the work of the charity. There are about 60 volunteers and 20 Wellbeing Champions involved in the Hub, carrying out activities such as IT support, reception duties, Repair cafe etc. During the winter months we run a 'Warm Hub' where people of reduced means can receive a cup of tea, biscuits and a friendly welcome.

 As Chairman of the Board of Trustees you will play a vital role in shaping the future direction of the charity, and securing it's success in challenging the social inequalities faced by the community of Merstham.

The mentoring project at Esteem invites members of the community to share their skills and experience by mentoring a young person with similar interests. 

Mentoring is an important part of our organisation and runs alongside Work Experience opportunities, providing tailored volunteer opportunities to young people aged 14-26, social activities and wellbeing support.  Creating space for young adults to thrive within their lives and communities.

Role Purpose

This is an exciting opportunity to volunteer for a charity that is passionate about giving young people the chance to develop their skills and confidence, both for their own benefit and for that of society as a whole. 

You can make a difference by mentoring 14-26 year olds who are developing or discovering their potential.

The mentors’ role is to support young people reach their next step focusing on their vocational development and encouraging progression into or maintaining Education, Employment or Training. The profile of many of Esteem’s young adults is that they have low levels of confidence and may be quite anxious; some young people may be neurodiverse including have a history of mental health problems, they also may have faced homelessness and other life affecting issues including the effects of long term unemployment 

• You will be based at Esteem’s Shoreham office but may meet your mentee in a public place such as a coffee shop, if that is what you both prefer and meets safeguarding requirements.

• You will be skills matched with a young person who will have similar interests, experience or an interest in your professional field. You will support your mentee by identifying and highlighting their skills and establishing realistic and achievable goals by breaking them down into manageable steps. 

• You will enter notes onto our database system UpShot after each meeting with your mentee and will be asked to fill in an outcome form at the conclusion of your mentoring relationship. 

Principal tasks and responsibilities 

1. To meet with your mentee regularly (once a week or once a fortnight) at a convenient time for you both either at the Esteem’s office or in a public place like a cafe. 

2. To offer ongoing vocational support to your mentee and support them to access services (such as in-house Counselling or from external organisations) if they need help with any issues they are dealing with. 

3. To support your mentee through their vocational setting, either volunteering at Esteem or within their personal, work or educational setting.

4. To offer positive feedback and aim to build self-confidence with your mentee.

5. To keep up to date notes of your meetings.

6. Complete regular reviews with the mentee and create a clear action plan if appropriate.

7. Attend all relevant training to your role.

8. To report any safeguarding concerns to the Safeguarding Team.

9. To maintain the required level of confidentiality in all tasks and communications. 

10. Uphold the commitment of the organisation to equality and diversity and its set of values. 

Person Specification

Experience

For this round of recruitment we are looking primarily for those who work in the creative industry and those who may have started their own business and/or have an entrepreneurial background. That being said, we are more than happy to accept applications from those who feel they have other skills and experience that could benefit young adults.

Whilst some experience of mentoring or supporting young adults would be helpful this is something we will cover in the day’s training.

Connection Support has a range of services providing support to people at risk of homelessness or on the edge of needing social care. We work with people made vulnerable through debt, mental health issues, substance misuse, learning disability, and physical disabilities.

We're now recruiting a Volunteer Outreach & Partnership Specialist to lead one of the most critical arms of our CIC.

Your Role

1. Guest Outreach & Curation (Primary):

• Lead strategy to find, vet, and schedule guests from the Black British Caribbean community who are ready to share lived experiences of childhood sexual trauma in a respectful, empowering, and supported environment.

• Manage the guest outreach pipeline via Airtable, Trello, or Notion.

• Liaise with our team to ensure a trauma-informed, mission-aligned guest journey.

2. Partnerships & Sponsorships:

• Identify and secure sponsorships and partnerships with charities, organisations, government bodies, and brands aligned with our values.

• Build and maintain a network of long-term collaborators in mental health, therapy, media, and advocacy.

• Strong ties to the Black British Caribbean community (through lived or professional experience).

• Background or skills in: outreach, journalism, PR, charity work, sales, safeguarding, or project management.

• High emotional intelligence; trauma-informed or open to learning.

• Independent, reliable, and values-aligned.

Commitment & Benefits

• Time: 3 days/week minimum (flexible, remote)

• Location: Remote with monthly London meet-ups

• Term: Min. 6 months (potential for paid role as CIC grows)
