Are you passionate about young people and ensuring everyone has equitable access to opportunities? Do you have a vibrant energy and experience to bring to our families and children? Then we could be looking for you to join our team of volunteers supportung families and young people in the North Kensington community.

As we ease out of lockdown, we are looking for volunteers to help on day trips in and around London to support families in getting back to normality again.

Trips will include anything from horse riding through to the beach, farms and Kew Gardens. This is an opportunity to help families in our community while gaining experience of working with a small, friendly and supportive charity.

Volunteers will help the group leader to accompany groups of parents/guardians and their children on a variety of cultural/fun trips, helping to make them feel welcome. 

Suitable volunteers will be reliable and sociable and enjoy working with children. Volunteers must be available for day trips during school holidays, as this is when most of the trips take place.

Volunteers receive a full induction, and support from the Children and Young People Coordinator. Travel expenses on the outings and any entrance fees are covered, and some further expenses can also be claimed.

Role Summary

Mast Cell Action is seeking a creative and detail-oriented Volunteer Graphics Support Coordinator to assist with designing engaging and visually compelling graphics for our social media platforms. This role plays a key part in helping us raise awareness about Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS) and fostering a sense of community.

Key Responsibilities

Design graphics for social media posts, stories, and campaigns in line with the Mast Cell Action branding guidelines.

Collaborate with the social media team to understand content needs and ensure timely delivery of assets.

Support the development of visuals for ongoing campaigns, such as "MCAS is..." and "Please Don't Test Me."

Create eye-catching visuals for announcements, events, and educational content.

Maintain and organise a library of graphics for easy future access and use.

Skills and Experience

Proficiency in graphic design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar).

A keen eye for design, colour, and typography.

Ability to interpret and work within brand guidelines.

Ability to interpret briefs and translate them into creative designs.

Strong organisational and time management skills to meet deadlines.

Passion for raising awareness and supporting communities affected by health challenges (knowledge of MCAS is a plus but not required).

As a charity we can continue to help cats and kittens in need thanks to the donations we receive at fundraising events from generous members of the public. Our fundraising event helpers have the exciting and varied role of helping at local fundraising events - such as cakes sales, barn dances, quiz nights – and everything in between!

What we need from you

You'll be

Time expectation

This role is really flexible! You could choose to volunteer at one event for a couple of hours or attend multiple fundraising events. These events will be based in and around the South Wirral/Chester area.

We’ll keep you up to date with upcoming local events where volunteers are needed. You’ll then be able to choose which events you’d like to volunteer at and how many hours you’d like to give. However much time you can give, your contribution will help raise much needed funds to continue the work of Cats Protection.

Job Title: EPAfrica Summer Team – Project Manager (PM)
Location: Kakamega, Kenya
Duration: Approximately 1st July – 13th September 2025, with limited flexibility on start and finish dates.
Start Date: UK-based training and preparation begins in June, with travel to Kenya for final pre-summer preparation in late June.

Compensation: Non-salaried placement, with the following expenses covered:

• Flights: Round-trip flights to Nairobi, and internal travel from Nairobi to Kakamega, covered.

• Accommodation: Fully covered throughout the EPAfrica summer. No contribution required towards rent or utilities.

• Programme delivery costs: All costs associated with programme delivery paid for by the charity.

• Additional Costs: Limited personal subsistence costs, plus any personal travel elsewhere within Kenya (e.g., for your holiday week).

Role Overview

As a Project Manager (PM), you'll be part of EPAfrica’s Summer Team, which is our in-country leadership group responsible for overseeing and supporting Project Workers (PWs) to deliver meaningful programmes of investment in Kenyan schools. You’ll take on a leadership role that blends operational oversight, pastoral care, and high-level decision-making to ensure the success and safety of our summer projects. This is a unique opportunity to develop leadership skills, contribute meaningfully to international development, and support passionate volunteers in-country.

Key Responsibilities

• Direct managerial responsibility for our volunteers in-country, including our Project Workers (PWs) and a “Summer Team” of coordinators. 

• Lead and support a cohort of PWs throughout their placements in partner schools, including:

  • With the support of coordinators, deliver trainings on topics such as project management, effective international development practices, safety and wellbeing, and cultural awareness

  • Provide pastoral support and act as the first point of contact for volunteers in-country

  • Oversee project progress, support PWs in addressing challenges, and ensure investment projects stay aligned with EPAfrica’s mission and theory of change

• Implement our in-country monitoring and evaluation programme, enabling us to effectively plan for and deliver future investments. This includes:

  • Monitoring visits to current & recent investment schools to gauge impact of EPAfrica’s work

  • Assessment visits to potential future EPAfrica participant schools

  • Staying up-to-date research into developments in the Kenyan education system and potential impacts on our work

  • Maintaining relationships with our network of local partners.

• Managing risk and implementing an emergency response to crises.

• Maintain clear and proactive communication with the central UK-based charity team. 

What We’re Looking For

• Strong familiarity with, and demonstrated interest in, EPAfrica’s values and operating model.

• A keen demonstrated interest in grassroots international development is required; previous experience in this setting (volunteering, fieldwork, or prior work experience) preferred.

• Experience managing teams to deliver project-based work, and leading with empathy. 

• Effective communication skills and the ability to work with stakeholders from a variety of cultures and backgrounds. 

• Demonstrated ability to take initiative and solve problems under pressure, with good  judgement, and decision-making skills.

• Willingness to operate in a challenging, fast-paced environment, taking accountability for team decisions.

• Experience as a Project Worker or previous Summer Team involvement preferred.

Would you like to use some of your free time to mentor vulnerable adults settle down in their local community within the London and/or the Surrey areas?

We have some exciting new hybrid working opportunities in London and Surrey which will enable us to support people into the private rented sector. 

We will help them settle into their properties, their local community, and help manage their tenancy by making a positive and influential impact on their lives. Our overall aim is to provide the tenancy sustainment support and ensure they have the tools they need to live in their new property comfortably.

There will be occasions where meeting face to face will be necessary, so having some flexibility is important to us.

As a Mentor, you will be providing essential additional support, information and guidance to Forward clients that you have been allocated to. You will help mentee/s address in a holistic/person centred manner, to formulate their goals, draw a realistic plan and support them to review their achievements and overcome any barriers that they may have, particularly when it comes to running their own private tenancies.

You will be matched with a case load of mentees whom you will meet on a regular basis (we require a minimum of at least 3 hours a week up to a maximum of 3 days a week depending on your availability) to support them with their specific needs and signpost them to additional services where necessary. 

The role can be remote but in certain areas and as stated, we may need an occasional face to face meeting. 

You will:

*provide advice and guidance 

*have good knowledge of the welfare and benefits system

*understand what is involved in setting up and sustaining tenancies

*will be able to signpost your mentees to appropriate additional services and ensure they are engaging with their current additional support networks

*help them overcome their barriers, (whether that be from solving maintenance issues, budgeting to  personal barriers)
