Community Action for Refugees and Asylum Seekers (CARAS) is seeking a Co-Chair to join our Board of Trustees, working alongside our current Co-Chair, who has been in the role for two years and has served on the Board for nine years. Our outgoing Co-Chair will remain as a trustee, ensuring strong continuity.

About CARAS
CARAS works with people from refugee backgrounds to provide practical, educational, and social support. We build relationships, networks, and spaces that enable individuals to access what they need to improve wellbeing and safety. Our dedicated staff and volunteers offer a wide range of activities and services, creating a place of welcome and helping people recognise their skills and develop their potential.

As one of the largest providers of refugee support in South London—particularly for unaccompanied and separated children—we are proud of our agility in responding to changing needs.

The Role of Co-Chair

• Provide strategic leadership to CARAS and the Board, ensuring our mission is achieved.

• Work in partnership with the CEO, staff, and volunteers.

• Lead the Board in fulfilling its governance responsibilities.

• Strengthen the relationship between the trustees and CARAS’s team.

• Plan and chair Board meetings and the AGM (with others as appropriate).

Time Commitment

• Four evening Board meetings per year (alternating between online and at our Tooting office).

• One away day annually (usually on a weekend).

• Membership of working groups.

• Regular meetings with the Co-Chair, CEO, and other trustees.

• Occasional attendance at activities (daytime, evenings, or weekends).

Last year 786,574 people were offered information and support from Victim Support. As a Service Delivery Volunteer you will provide specialist support services for people affected by crime.

 Volunteering with Victim Support in Kent

As a Volunteer in Kent your role will include:

• Supporting victims of crime in our multi-crime service
• Delivering one-to-one support mainly by speaking with clients over the telephone or face to face
• Working alongside our dedicated Volunteer and Community Engagement Manager and Caseworkers to provide a client-led service
• Providing the validation, reflect and inform elements of our service framework
• Monthly social events as well as invitation to further presentations with existing multi-agency partners.

What do we ask of you?

In order to join us as a Service Delivery Volunteer, you must:

• Be 18 years of age or over.
• Be able to volunteer for at least 3 hours per week, for at least 12 months.
• Undertake training over a 10-week period – this includes five virtual training days as well as completing a workbook and online learning modules.
• Undertake an enhanced DBS check & be part of the DBS update service.
• Be able to provide two satisfactory references.
• Have an active email address that you are comfortable using in order to engage with VS communications.

Expenses

• All Victim Support volunteers are entitled to out-of-pocket expenses incurred whilst volunteering, including travel and lunch.

We are recruiting two new Trustees to join our Board with expertise in fundraising and communications/marketing. We welcome applications from candidates with strong experience in either area, or those with skills spanning both disciplines.

These voluntary roles require committed individuals who can contribute their time, expertise, insights, and passion for helping WeSwim achieve its goals in empowering adults with disabilities to get active, connect with others and build lasting confidence. WeSwim is a small charity in start-up mode which achieved charitable status from the Charity Commission in 2024 and currently has three Trustees on its Board.

Key Responsibilities

We are particularly seeking trustees who can lead in these priority areas:

Fundraising Leadership

• Identify, lead and drive fundraising initiatives to secure sustainable financial resources for WeSwim

• Develop and implement fundraising strategies, particularly focusing on corporate sponsorship

• Build relationships with potential funders and sponsors

Communications & Marketing Leadership

• Design and deliver a communications plan to help WeSwim achieve its objectives

• Enhance connections with swimmers, volunteers, sponsors and the wider community

• Develop marketing strategies to raise WeSwim's profile and reach

All trustees will also be involved in these core governance responsibilities (no prior experience necessary):

• Governance: Ensure WeSwim complies with its governing documents, charity law, and other relevant legislation or regulations

• Financial Oversight: Monitor the financial health of WeSwim, including approval of budgets and financial statements

• Advocacy: Act as an ambassador for WeSwim, promoting its work and raising its profile within the community and beyond, especially within the disability community

• Risk Management: Identify and manage risks to ensure WeSwim's sustainability and success

• Collaboration: Work closely with fellow trustees, the CEO, staff, and volunteers to ensure effective team dynamics and operational efficiency

Experience & Skills

Essential requirements for all applicants:

• Personal experience of disability: either have a disability yourself, or have a close family/friend connection who is disabled

• Commitment to WeSwim's mission and values

We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in one or both of these areas:

Fundraising Skills:

• Experience developing and implementing fundraising strategies across multiple channels

• Corporate partnership development and sponsorship negotiation experience

• Individual donor cultivation and stewardship experience

• Experience with fundraising events and community engagement activities

• Relationship-building and networking abilities with corporate, foundation, and individual prospects

• Ability to identify new funding opportunities and diversify income streams

Communications & Marketing Skills:

• Experience developing and implementing communications strategies

• Content creation and storytelling skills, particularly for charity/impact narratives

• Digital marketing expertise including social media management and online engagement

• Brand development and messaging experience

• Media relations and PR experience (traditional and digital media)

• Understanding of accessible communications for diverse audiences

The following additional skills are helpful but not essential:

• Leadership experience in governance roles, ideally within a charity or non-profit organization

• Financial acumen and understanding of budget oversight

About the role

Hertfordshire’s Family Centre Service brings children’s centres, health visiting and school nursing together, to provide a more joined-up service for children, young people, and their families.

The centres deliver a range of support groups and activities for children and their families to help them be healthy, grow and develop. To make it easy for families to fit sessions and services around their busy lives, access is available from any Hertfordshire Family centre. We have locations across the entire county so please do enquire ensuring you have provided your postcode.

Main Tasks/ Responsibilities/ Activities

To represent Family Centre Services within local communities and help strengthen the link between families and the centre by promoting services and support available.

Key Responsibilities:

· Promote Hertfordshire Family Centres by attending toddler and parent groups and local activities.

· Distribute leaflets, posters, and other promotional materials in community venues (e.g. libraries, health centres, nurseries, shops).

· Talk to parents, carers, and professionals about the Family Centre offer, signposting them to services and activities.

· Share updates on Family Centre activities through word of mouth, local networks, and community noticeboards.

· Provide feedback to Family Centre staff about local needs, events, and opportunities for engagement.

· Represent the Family Centre in a positive and professional way at all times.

This face to face opportunity will see you providing information about RNIB services and activities to help people with sight loss live the lives they want, enabling them to hear about the support that is available, and how they can help others.

We are looking for guardians for the next generation, a network of Student Engagement Volunteers who can represent the NSPCC on campus or college. People who believe in the work we do and understand the many struggles the younger generation face on a day to day basis.  

Whether an individual or a group you will be enthusiastic and passionate in helping us fight for every childhood and keeping children safe.

What you'll do:

You will engage your fellow students and wider campus and college by shouting about the vital work that the NSPCC does and the many ways they can support us. Some of the things you could be doing include;

• Promoting NSPCC campaigns around campus

• Taking part in a Challenge event such as Trek, run or skydive
• Sharing key messaging through social media and your networks
• Encouraging RAGs, groups and societies to fundraise
