Independent Visitor: Mentor a young person for 2 – 4 hours per month for at least 1 year.

An Independent Visitor is usually an adult volunteer who befriends a young person in care and develops a long-term friendship with them. This often involves helping young people develop new interests, skills and hobbies or going on outings such as going to the cinema, bowling or just walking in the park.

About the role:
•Visit a young person monthly and become a trusted adult friend to them.
•Build a trusting, consistent and positive relationship with the child.
•Provide a child with the opportunity to try new activities (e.g., cinema, bowling, museums, nature walks, or simply having a chat) and spend time with them away from their placement. 
•Provide visit reports and feedback after visits to help us monitor and improve the service.

Event Coordinator

Volunteer Role Description (remote, unpaid)

The Events Coordinator is responsible for planning, organizing, and executing impactful virtual and in-person events that amplify Growth Pillar’s mission, engage stakeholders, and enhance visibility. Events may include capacity-building workshops, community outreach programs, panel discussions, stakeholder forums, fundraising campaigns, and program launches. This role is ideal for someone who is creative, detail-oriented, proactive, and passionate about development and social innovation in Africa.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Event Planning & Design

• Develop detailed event concepts and calendars aligned with Growth Pillar’s strategic goals
• Coordinate logistics for online and physical events (venue, vendors, equipment, permissions)
• Prepare event plans, workbacks, and budgets in collaboration with team leads
• Secure speakers, facilitators, guests, and panelists as needed

Event Promotion & Registration

• Work with the communications team to develop event promotion materials
• Design and manage event registration and RSVPs (using tools like Google Forms, Eventbrite, etc.)
• Manage event pages, reminders, and social media outreach

On-the-Day Coordination

• Oversee smooth execution of events, managing flow and timing
• Support hosting, moderation, or coordination with emcees (MCs), facilitators, and tech support
• Ensure branding, documentation, and protocols are followed
• Troubleshoot issues in real-time and ensure excellent participant experience

Post-Event Activities

• Collect and analyze participant feedback and prepare post-event reports
• Coordinate with content team to publish event highlights, photos, and summaries
• Maintain a repository of recordings, photos, attendance records, and media files

Partnership & Stakeholder Coordination

• Liaise with local organizations, sponsors, and partners to co-host or support events
• Assist in mobilizing resources (in-kind support, venue sponsorships, etc.)
• Represent Growth Pillar in relevant external event planning committees when needed

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Project Management, Communications, Marketing, Development Studies, or a related field
• At least 1–2 years of experience in planning and executing professional or community-based events
• Strong organizational and multitasking skills
• Comfortable using tools like Zoom, Canva, Eventbrite, Trello, Google Workspace
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
• Proactive, self-motivated, and able to work independently and collaboratively
• Ability to moderate or facilitate events confidently
• Knowledge of social media and digital marketing tools

Job Description - What you will be doing​

Our Hedgerow Heroes project is an ongoing project focused on planting and restoring hedgerows in green spaces across London. The goal of the project is to help reinforce and enhance London’s green belt, and use hedgerows and related engagement activities to help people in greenspace-deprived areas - which also have indicators of social deprivation, mental health issues and poor air quality - to connect with nature. All activities will be designed to be inclusive, allowing a wide range of people the opportunity to engage in hands-on conservation work and gain appreciation of the natural world in their local area. In summary: help us to introduce, restore and maintain hedgerows in London’s green belt, in cooperation with Friends-of groups and community-level volunteers. 

The role of the Hedgerow Heroes Coordinator will be to: 

• Help research new project opportunities (planting sites, partners etc)
• Work in a friendly team to help co-ordinate the planting / restoration of hedgerows all over London
• Administration and organisation of people and teams to meet planting session requirements 
• Work alongside more experienced volunteers to learn project management skills to help you in your future career
• As you continue to volunteer with CPRE you're free to find the perfect role that suits your needs - we have lots of volunteer work available in fundraising, campaigning, and project management.

The project will be run in partnership with London’s Friends of Greenspace Network – which supports community groups aiming to enhance their local green-spaces, and with whom CPRE have a strong and continuous relationship providing them with regular newsletters; corporate volunteering opportunities; events; and by facilitating capacity building and directly providing bespoke support and advice.

As a Marketing & Communications Assistant, you will work closely with the Project Leader to spread the word about our amazing Akioke Karaoke Confidence Club. You'll help us promote the club to potential members, volunteers, and the wider community, ensuring its success and sustainability.

Key Responsibilities:

• Content Creation: Assist the Project Leader draft engaging text for promotional materials (flyers, social media posts, website content).
• Social Media Support: Help schedule and post content on relevant social media platforms (e.g., Facebook groups, local community pages).
• Community Outreach: Identify local community groups, centres, schools, and organisations that could benefit from our club, and assist with distributing promotional materials.
• Information Gathering: Research relevant online forums, notice boards, and events where we can promote the club.
• Feedback Collection: Assist in gathering testimonials or feedback from members (with appropriate consent) to use in promotional efforts.
• Administrative Support: Help organise and maintain marketing materials and contact lists.

We're Looking For Someone Who Is:

• Creative and has a good eye for engaging content.
• Organised and attentive to detail.
• Familiar with social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram).
• Able to communicate clearly and concisely in writing.
• Proactive and able to take initiative with guidance.
• Reliable and able to commit to agreed-upon tasks.
• Passionate about the club's mission and helping us reach new audiences.
• Previous experience in marketing, communications, or social media is a bonus but not essential – a willingness to learn is most important!

Time Commitment: Flexible, approximately 2-4 hours per week, with tasks that can often be completed remotely or during mutually agreed-upon times, in collaboration with the Project Leader.

− Assist in raising awareness about Age UK Croydon’s services through community engagement. 

− Respect client confidentiality and uphold the dignity and independence of older people. 

  Essential Skills and Qualities:

- Compassionate, patient, and empathetic nature 

- Good communication and active listening skills 

- Reliable, respectful, and sensitive to diversity and individual needs 

- Ability to work independently and as part of a team 

- Basic computer skills (for administrative tasks) are desirable but not essential

Join our amazing team and make a real difference to people living with sight loss. Help create a welcoming and safe environment for people to share their experiences, ask questions and support each other and connect with a local community in a group setting via Facebook.

In this role you will be:
• Managing group membership – authorising Requests to Join.
• Creating a warm and welcoming environment by welcoming new members to the group and encouraging participation.
• Supporting group conversations – Instigating dialogue based on eye health related days/events or more interest-based topics.
• Working with a Volunteer Moderator Team to create engaging content for the Group.
• Ensuring group rules are followed and that content is appropriate by alerting managers when inappropriate content is posted or when there is a safeguarding issue.
