About the Role
SERT’s ambition is to reach as many people as possible in the South East, to teach and show them the importance of rivers in the environment, and how everyone can play a part in restoring them. We also want to be more reflective of the diverse communities who live in the South East, and build partnerships within these communities to reach a broader audience.
This role will lead the development and delivery of volunteering and community outreach activities that connect people with their local rivers. Activities will include practical volunteering such as river clean-ups, planting days, and invasive species control, as well as citizen science, guided walks, and community workshops.

For this role we are looking for someone who is:
- A self starter who is able to research, approach and secure funds for developing your programme of delivery.
- Enjoys and has a demonstrable experience writing, organising and managing a programme for volunteers and communities.
- Enjoys seeking out new opportunities and funding as well as keeping your existing volunteers engaged.
- A people person, who is able to plan, organise and multi task. You can think on your feet whilst being adaptable to varying situations, always remaining calm.

About you

The job holder will work closely with the Chief Operating Officer, Finance Officer and volunteers within the team. There will be a requirement to work closely with the income generating staff, budget holders, auditors, banks and credit card providers on a regular basis. The Finance Manager will be responsible for managing the Finance Officer and Finance volunteer.

This is a key role that directly supports policy influence and service delivery across the nations by securing flexible, budget-relieving grants. About you
You’ll have experience of writing successful trust funding applications and will feel confident asking for grants of five figures or more. You enjoy writing clearly and persuasively, and you’re good at building positive relationships with funders over time.
You’re organised and reliable, able to manage a busy workload and keep on top of deadlines. You pay close attention to detail and take pride in producing accurate work, especially when reporting back to funders.
You’re someone who works well with others. You’ll enjoy talking to our teams in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland to understand what they need and how funding can help. You’re curious, committed, and care about making a difference to people’s lives.

ROLE OVERVIEW:
The Volunteering Experience Lead plays a vital role in ensuring volunteers feel connected, valued, and well-supported throughout their time with us. The post-holder will lead our efforts to recruit, retain and engage volunteers, shaping communications and initiatives that build a strong sense of belonging.
This role works across the entire volunteer journey, from attraction and onboarding to recognition and feedback. It leads on volunteer-facing communications and engagement campaigns, coordinates volunteer surveys, and helps build a growing, supportive network of volunteers. Responsibilities
The Trusts and Grants Fundraiser will lead on our applications, reporting and the administration of our appeals to charitable trusts and foundations, and support bids to public funders.
You will:
• maintain and manage our existing pipeline of charitable trusts and foundations
• undertake research and identify trusts and foundations whose priorities align with our work, in line with organisational priorities
• work closely with the General Manager and Director of Education to research, prepare and submit high quality, compelling applications, ranging from 4-6 figures and including multi-year proposals
• record applications made, track outcomes and provide reports for finance and management

This new role is essential to the success of the Finance & Fundraising teams, in providing effective finance and CRM administration support. The Finance and CRM Administrator will support income generation activities including fundraising and venue hire, as well as playing a vital role in keeping the Museum’s accounting systems working effectively.
