Community Fundraising Events Volunteer Roles in Clerkenwell, Greater London

Our organisation has great demand but has suffered over the last 12 months due to reduced funding. We seek Trustees with fundraising experience or from the LGBTQI+ community who can help us as we continue to meet our growing needs.

What will you be doing?

We are currently looking for two new Trustees. Our Trustees are like a non-executive board of directors - although they are not involved in the day-to-day running of the charity, they oversee what we do and make sure we stay on track, meeting 4 times per year in Accrington or via Teams for up to 2 hours at a time. In between meetings, the charity's management and admin team might call on the trustees for particular issues with which they need help or support, such as proofreading funding applications, working on developing specific projects using a trustee's contacts or area of expertise, or simply when a sounding board for new ideas is needed.

Our trustees may also come to our events a few times a year to keep up with what we are doing - this is arranged as convenient for the trustees.

New trustees will be joining our board, which currently stands at 5. The only absolute requirements are that you are interested in and enthusiastic about what we do and that you are willing to work to support the charity using any skills, knowledge, or contacts that you have that may be relevant. 

What are we looking for?

We are currently looking to grow and expand and are particularly keen to hear from potential trustees from the 

LGBTQI+ community or who have fundraising experience. However, if you are interested and have other skills or experience, please do get in touch - we welcome interest from all potential Trustees, regardless of their skills or background, as long as they are enthusiastic about what we do and are keen to support our work. We particularly welcome applications from women and from people of colour as we are looking to improve the diversity of our board. 

What difference will you make?

The RYC is going through a rough time at the moment as we respond to increased demand and reduced funding.Your presence and work on our Board of Trustees could help us reach hundreds of children and young people across the North-West who are the most vulnerable in our society. Living with issues such as eating disorders, anxiety, self-harm or suicidal tendencies, these young people are forgotten by mainstream clubs, therefore missing out on the social benefits of having friends or a safe space to connect or ask for help, especially in the wake of COVID-19 and the cost-of-living crisis.

You and your experience will help us reach our goals and develop our work more quickly and effectively, meaning we can get the most out of our resources and people.

1. Plan and execute the Employment Support strategy and service line:

• CV Assistance and subsidising travel: Organize and oversee quarterly CV clinics and provide discretionary support for travel costs associated with interviews and courses, enhancing job readiness among community members.

• Discretionary interview support: provide access to high quality discretionary interview practice and advice.

• Job opportunity signposting: Develop and maintain partnerships with businesses and organizations to highlight job opportunities for the community. Act as a liaison for discretionary referrals to these job opportunities, ensuring a fit between community members’ skills and available positions.

2. Measure performance: Keep accurate count of the number of individuals assisted with CVs, job applications and interview preparation; the number vacancies shared with the community and any successful placement rates of those assisted. Provide this data to the Governance Team and Trustees on request.

3. Collaboration with Verticals Teams: 

• Partnership Development & Collaboration Team: Coordinate with this team to identify and establishalliances and partnerships with local, regional and global organisations, businesses, councils, and thegovernment to acquire Employment Supportresources, speakers or information.

• Fundraising & Financial Management Team: Collaborate with this team to conduct fundraising activities and financial planning for the Employment Support service line. Identify diverse revenue streams, such as grants, donations, corporate sponsorships, fundraising events for the Employment Supportservice.

Share Psychotherapy is one of Sheffield’s leading mental health charities. Established for over 40 years we offer medium to long term therapy at nominal fees, primarily to people on low incomes. WK Foundation is a recently registered charity in South London, seeking to add trustees to their board to reflect the communities the charity serve. Our work is dedicated to reconnecting low income urban communities with sustainable food pathways, with the aim of breaking the cycles of poverty that are perpetuated by dysfunctional food systems. The board are particularly interested in candidates who identify as Black Caribbean or have mixed racial backgrounds, such as mixed race Black Caribbean/White or Pakistani/White British.

Our board is female led (Chair & CEO are female), and consists of a clinical phschologist, social entrepreneur, trained counsellor & HR practicioner, and regenerative food specialist. We are a friendly but professional bunch who start meetings with a moment of reflection and prayer, record excellent minutes and stick (for the most part) to a pre-agreed agenda and schedule. We are big on creating a culture that combines support and listening with action, accountability and forward movement and our vibe is positive, and inclusive. 

We are currently re-developing our holistic hospitality training programme called Nourish, for an October 2025 launch. Nourish provides hands on skills training, work experience and employment opportunities, as well as employment progression and support for young adults from low income context facing disadvantages. We work with young adults for up to 12 months.

Our work is underpinned by our regenerative food practises and is run in accordance with our Christian faith values & principles.

Understanding the Verticals at Barawak

Imagine Barawak as a living, thriving tree. Our verticals are like the main branches—each one strong and important, reaching out in its own direction but all connected to the same trunk, our community's mission. These four powerhouse teams each have a special job:

• The Fundraising and Financial Management vertical covers fundraising and money matters: This team is all about finding resources—like getting donations and grants—to keep our programmes strong and healthy.They will spend their time writing fantastic letters, sponsorship proposals and funding requests on behalf of Barawak as a whole, but also (supporting programme leads) to specific organisations for Barawak service lines.

• The Partnership Development and Collaboration vertical covers building bridges: They're the connectors, making friends with other groups, businesses, and everyone who can help us grow.

• The Volunteer Engagement vertical covers welcoming our helpers: This bunch is in charge of gathering our most valuable resource—people like you who want to volunteer and make a difference.

• The Marketing Outreach and Advocacy vertical covers spreading the word: They tell our story far and wide, making sure everyone knows what we're up to and how they can join in.

Each vertical team works in two distinct ways: the first way is for Barawak as a whole, and the second way is in support of each Barawak service, feeding our programmes, like roots bringing water and nutrients to the branches. Whether it's Poverty Relief, Education, Employment Support, Community Engagement or Sports and Wellness, these verticals give the support each programme needs to blossom and bear fruit. Working together, they make sure we're all pushing in the same direction—towards a future where our community stands tall and proud.

Introduction to the Partnership Development and Collaboration Lead Role

The Partnership Development and Collaboration Lead is crucial in forging strong connections and building strategic alliances. This role focuses on nurturing relationships that support Barawak’s overall mission and each unique programme, ensuring the organization's growth and the successful delivery of its objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

Trustee Support:

• Act as the primary liaison between the Board of Trustees and potential partners.

• Advise trustees on partnership opportunities that align with Barawak's strategic direction.

• Prepare briefing materials and strategic recommendations for trustees on collaboration efforts.

• Coordinate with trustees to identify partnership needs and priorities across all service lines.

Barawak-wide Partnership Development:

• Develop and implement a comprehensive partnership strategy for Barawak as a whole.

• Identify and engage with local, regional, and global organizations, businesses, councils, and government entities.

• Cultivate relationships that lead to resource sharing, joint initiatives, and co-created programmes.

• Secure commitments and formalize agreements that provide sustainable support for Barawak’s operations and initiatives.

Programme-Specific Collaboration:

• Tailor partnership strategies to support the unique needs of each programme lead.

• Work closely with the Poverty Relief, Education & Skill Development, Employment Support, Community Engagement & Racial Harmony, and Sports & Wellness leads to identify potential partners that can provide targeted resources and support.

• Facilitate introductions and negotiations between programme leads and potential partners, ensuring a mutual understanding of goals and expectations.

• Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of partnerships in supporting programme objectives, providing regular reports to programme leads and trustees.

Strategic Alliance Management:

• Maintain a dynamic network of partners, constantly evaluating and nurturing these relationships.

• Organize regular meetings and networking events to foster a community of collaborators.

• Provide ongoing support and guidance to partners, ensuring their contributions are effectively integrated into Barawak’s programmes.

Reporting and Analysis:

• Track and report on partnership activities, outcomes, and the impact on Barawak’s service delivery.

• Use data and feedback to improve partnership strategies and collaboration efforts.

Qualifications and Skills:

• Proven experience in partnership development, relationship management, or a similar role.

• Strong networking skills with the ability to engage with a diverse range of stakeholders.

• Excellent communication and negotiation skills.

• Strategic thinking with a keen understanding of non-profit operations and community-based initiatives.

It’s an exciting time for the Employers' Initiative on Domestic Abuse: momentum is growing, with heightened public awareness of domestic abuse following the pandemic, increased government focus, and employers increasingly recognising their crucial role in enabling employees to recognise the signs of, and seek support on, domestic abuse.

The Employers’ Initiative on Domestic Abuse (known as EIDA) is committed to equality, diversity and inclusion in our mission to empower employers to act effectively against domestic abuse.

We are a free-to-join members' network of employers and a registered charity supporting over 1,500 large and small employers to take effective action on domestic abuse.  Our members collectively employ over 25% of the UK workforce.

Our mission is to equip employers to support their employees affected by domestic abuse and to share best practice with other employers.

We endeavour to bring about constructive change, leading to a society where survivors thrive, and where domestic abuse is not tolerated.

Our Trustees are volunteer board members who play a vital role in making sure that EIDA achieves its mission.  As a group, they:

• Oversee the overall management and administration of the charity.
• Ensure that EIDA has a clear strategy and that our work and goals are in line with our vision.
• Provide support and challenge to the executive team, enabling EIDA to grow and thrive.

We are seeking up to four new Trustees to join the existing group of eight. 

EIDA has a UK-wide remit with a membership made up of employers, and we want to reflect that across our Trustees.

Trustee duties

Trustees are the people who lead our charity and decide how it is run.  We envisage the trustee duties broadly as:

• Support and provide advice on EIDA’s purpose, vision, goals and activities.
• Attend Board meetings, adequately prepared to contribute to discussions.
• Approve operational strategies and policies and monitor and evaluate their implementation.
• Oversee EIDA’s financial plans and budgets and monitor and evaluate progress.
• Ensure the effective and efficient administration of the organisation.
• Ensure that key risks are being identified, monitored and controlled effectively.
• Review and approve EIDA’s financial statements.
• Provide support and challenge to EIDA’s CEO.
• Keep abreast of changes in EIDA’s operating environment.
• Use independent judgment, acting legally and in good faith to promote and protect EIDA’s interests, to the exclusion of their own personal and/or any third-party interests.
• Participate in periodic appraisals of the performance of the Board of Trustees, collectively and individually.
• Represent EIDA at external functions, meetings and events.

Who we are looking for

• Some experience as an employer or people manager.

Terms of appointment

Position: Trustee

Location: This is a hybrid role, with occasional travel required to Board and network meetings held in central London

Terms: A maximum fixed term appointment of one three-year term followed by a further three-year term

This is a voluntary position, but reasonable expenses are reimbursed.

Time commitment: EIDA’s Board of Trustees meets 4-5 times a year within the working hours of 10-5pm.  Currently meetings are held in London and remotely (Zoom).

Our trustees play a vital role in making sure the National Emergencies Trust has a clear strategy, achieves our goals, and demonstrates excellence in all areas of governance.

Key duties

• Demonstrate an interest and commitment to the work, values, and vision of the National Emergencies Trust

Role specification

Media Trust has a committed Board of Trustees and is always looking to bring in different perspectives and areas of expertise to complement and strengthen the board further.

All Trustees are responsible for ensuring that Media Trust acts in the interest of the charities and the underrepresented groups it serves and, in line with its charitable objectives, must ensure that the charity’s performance is evaluated in this respect. In addition to formal Board meetings, Trustees should be willing to engage in other ways, for example by joining a working group or committee for a specified period or providing advice to the senior leadership team on a more ad hoc basis.

It is an advantage, though not a requirement, if trustees have contacts who are interested in supporting Media Trust’s aims.

Person specification

The new Trustees will bring passion and enthusiasm for Media Trust’s work and be keen to learn and contribute to the organisation’s work: bridging the gap between the media and creative industry and broader society to strengthen the voices of charities and under-represented communities.

Candidates should possess relationship-building and strong interpersonal skills and will be expected to act as prominent ambassadors for the charity. Media Trust is open to appointing candidates for whom this would be their first board role and is committed to broadening the Board’s diversity across every axis.

For the current vacancies, Media Trust is seeking experience and expertise in the following areas:

• Industry fundraising expertise: to support the executive team in identifying and securing programme/event sponsors and other sources of industry income. You may have leadership experience working at a media or brand organisation, a marketing or media industry body, or experience as a fundraising professional in the charity, nonprofit or private sectors with strong connections to industry.
• Screen industry connections: to help the executive team secure screen industries’ support (trainers, mentors, facilities) to deliver programmes aimed at getting more under-represented talent into film, TV, and gaming particularly in behind the camera roles, we’re looking for new trustees with deep connections within the screen industries, particularly in development, production and post-production at the major studios, major broadcasters or industry bodies.

Expected time commitment

Media Trust holds four Board meetings per year which last around 3 hours, not including preparation.

There is also an opportunity, depending on skills and experience, for the new Trustees to join one or more Board committees. The Finance & Audit Committee meets four times a year for c. 1-1.5 hours each time, whereas the Nominations Committee meets according to need.

There is also the option to join the Advisory Board for a specific programme, depending on its relevance and a Trustee’s interest & availability.

Board meetings are usually held in Central London and are hosted at the offices of the charity’s Trustees, with reasonable travel expenses covered. Media Trust is a flexible employer: hybrid and remote working are welcomed, and there will be options to attend these meetings remotely.
