Volunteering at Memory Walk is an incredible experience. You and hundreds of others across the country will help us to run 12 inspiring walks that raise vital funds, providing help and hope to people affected by dementia. Memory Walks simply couldn't happen without incredible volunteers, and we do our best to make it a day to remember. 

There are three roles to choose from when volunteering at a Memory Walk:

• Event Site - Volunteer roles include selling merchandise and handing out medals at the finish line.
• Route Marshal - Route volunteers are essential to guide walkers and keep enthusiasm high. All route marshals will be paired, so you'll never be alone on the route.
• Back Markers - Back markers have the unique advantage of walking the whole route alongside our participants, taking down route signage and releasing route marshals along the way.

You can expect:

• A fantastic day outdoors in your local community. 
• A face-to-face briefing from the Events Team before the event starts where you'll chat through your role for the day. There'll be plenty of time to ask any questions you may have.
• A chance to explore the event site and hang a tag on the Memory Walk Memory Tree in honour of your loved ones.
• Satisfaction, knowing that you're helping to raise vital funds and providing help and hope to people affected by dementia. 
• Volunteer arrival time is typically 8:45am.
• You’ll need to be able to commit to around 6 hours of volunteering at the event. Don’t worry if you can’t stick around for the whole day, just make sure to get in touch with us to let us know your availability.

At St John Ambulance we are looking to embed ourselves within our communities, delivering support which is tailored to the needs of those communities whilst providing a positive experience for our Volunteers.

We need leaders who are passionate about making a difference in their communities, who care about helping and developing others, who will lead and inspire a volunteer movement across a geographical area to deliver Community First Aid, Community Education and Community Fundraising as well as develop our offering for young people. Through leading a team of Volunteer leaders, you will drive excellence in delivery, develop an inclusive and diverse volunteering experience for new and current volunteers, and help navigate through change to build a bigger and better St John Ambulance.

Volunteers would be expected to attend training for the role both online and in person, to attend regularly network weekly meetings to enable them to keep their skills up to date.

If you are successful you will need to undertake relevant training for the role, details of which will be discussed after you have been appointed.

As a Community First Aider, you’ll deliver first aid to those in need through local events, as well as provide education to the public so that the ripple effect of First Aid grows.

Through supporting the growth of community partnerships, you will bring people along to our cause, growing our membership and fundraising base and spreading the message that First Aid Saves Lives. 

Through volunteering as a Community First Aider, you’ll get a huge sense of satisfaction and pride delivering an essential service. It’s great for you, great for your community and great for our nation, and it requires only a small commitment of your time. 

We will make sure you will have access to a proper induction to volunteering with SJA and the training you need for the role you take on. We meet fortnightly in Oadby on Thursday evenings. There is no requirement to attend every session.

We will be holding selection events on the following dates: 21st/22nd June, 19th/20th July, 23rd/24th August, 20th/21st September.

You will need to attend a Community First Aid course - 2 Days (Typically a Weekend) delivered at Pegasus House in Leicester.

Parkinson's UK local groups offer friendship, support, and numerous activities for people affected by Parkinson's.

In Winchester, the group is a core part of the local Parkinson's community. As a committee volunteer you'll help connect people to the group, whilst making sure existing members stay up to date with the activities provided. You could have a hand in arranging activities too, whether it's seated yoga, or a chance for friends and family of those living with Parkinson's to meet - and all activities are open to you too.

You'll build existing connections, and meet new people in your local area, all whilst making a difference to those living with Parkinson's in Winchester.

The group meets each month, but many of our volunteers undertake parts of their roles from home - at a time that suits them. This is a flexible role, and you could be doing any or all of the tasks on the role description - speak to your staff contact for more detail.

Local groups across the UK are run by volunteers and offer friendship and support to people living with Parkinson's and their families and friends. Each group has a committee, who work together to plan the groups activities or fundraising - all in line with Parkinson's UK guidelines.

What you will be doing

• Keep up to date about the news and developments of Parkinson's UK more widely, sharing these with the group
• contributing ideas for fundraising, activities and speakers
• sharing experiences with the committee and connecting with the local community
• helping to prepare for and clear up after group meetings
• assisting at fundraising events and any activities arranged by the branch
• taking notes / minutes at meetings and events

• be a good communicator, as you will be working with a wide range of different people

The Ouseburn Trust was established as an independent development trust for the Ouseburn Valley in 1996. Currently it manages property, shapes the regeneration of the area, delivers a programme of heritage activity, a programme of green spacemanagement and an annual festival. The Trust works in partnership with volunteers, thelocal authority and the business community to enhance the physical, social and economicenvironment of the Valley. 

General Responsibilities of the Chair:
1. Strategic Leadership
Provide clear, visionary leadership to the board to ensure the successful delivery of the Trust’s new 3-year strategy. Support and challenge the Chief Executive and leadership team to align operations with strategic goals.
2. Governance and Oversight
Ensure effective governance, risk management, and compliance with the Trust’s legal and regulatoryobligations. Chair board meetings effectively, ensuring decisions are democratic, inclusive, and action-oriented.
3. Support and Supervision
Act as line manager and critical friend to the Chief Executive, offering support, challenge, and regularperformance review. Promote a positive, open culture between the board, staff, volunteers, and wider stakeholders.
4. Ambassadorial Role
Represent the Trust with external stakeholders, funders, partners, and community members.Champion the Trust’s values, mission, and strategic direction within and beyond the Ouseburn Valley.
5. Board Development
Lead in recruiting, developing, and retaining an effective, diverse, and skilled board of trustees. Encourage learning, reflection, and accountability across the board.

Specific Responsibilities (Tailored to Ouseburn Trust and Strategy Delivery):
1. Strategic Plan Implementation
Ensure that board agendas and priorities are aligned with the delivery of the 3-year strategy.Monitor and evaluate progress against strategic milestones, adjusting course where necessary.
2. Place-Based Advocacy
Be a strong and visible advocate for the Ouseburn Valley as a vibrant place for culture, heritage,
business, and community life.
Work collaboratively with key local partners (e.g. Newcastle City Council, local businesses, cultural
organisations).
3. Income Generation and Sustainability
Support the Chief Executive and staff in diversifying income, particularly through partnerships,
commercial activity, and fundraising.
Take an active interest in financial oversight and long-term resilience planning.
4. Community and Volunteer Engagement
Promote meaningful community involvement in the Trust’s activities and ensure the board reflects and
values the views of local people.
Champion the role of volunteers and the importance of their ongoing support and development.
5. Governance Development
Oversee the review and modernisation of governance frameworks if necessary, ensuring they are fit for
purpose for the future.

Time required
Board meetings are held bi-monthly usually on the last Thursday evening from 5.30-7.30pm
Finance Group meetings are held four times a year, usually on a Monday or Tuesday afternoon.

The main duties of a Trustee

• To ensure that the organisation complies with the governing documents, organisation law, and any other relevant legislation or regulations.
• To ensure that the organisation pursues its objectives as defined in its governing documents.
• To ensure that the organisation applies its resources exclusively in pursuance of its objectives, i.e. the organisation must not spend money on activities that are not included in its own objectives, no matter how worthwhile or charitable they are.
• To contribute effectively to the board of trustees’ role by giving firm strategic direction to the organisation, setting overall policy, defining goals, setting targets and evaluating performance.
• To promote the interests of the Ouseburn Trust within a wider network and throughout the community it serves, and whilst doing so, safeguard the good name of the organisation.
• To declare conflicts of interest whilst carrying out the duties of a trustee.
• To be collectively responsible for the actions of the organisation and other trustees.
• To ensure the financial stability of the organisation.
• To protect and manage the assets of the organisation and ensure funds are effectively managed.
• To attend meetings and to read papers in advance and to give advance notice if unable to attend. Trustees who fail to attend three consecutive meetings may be asked to resign their seat.
• To make sure the organisation is effectively insured.
• To support employees in their appointment and effective execution of their duties.
• To keep informed about the activities of the organisation.
• To appoint a suitable person from the board to the roles of Chair & Vice Chair.

When appointing new Directors/Trustees serious consideration will be given to the skills, knowledge and experience that will be brought to the Board of Directors.

It is essential that Directors/Trustees understand the management process and carry out their role both diligently and effectively without becoming a barrier to progress or over-stepping their responsibilities.

The requirements of the role

The culture of the organisation is to deliver its charitable aims using a business type approach. Ideally we are looking for someone who:

• has a passion for the Ouseburn Valley and our work within it.
• is sympathetic to the Trust's aims and values and
• understands the role of the third sector in driving local regeneration.

New Directors/Trustees will demonstrate:

• Integrity.
• A commitment and enthusiasm to the work and objectives of the Ouseburn Trust.
• A willingness to devote the necessary time and effort to their duties as a Trustee.
• An understanding and/or experience of management practice with a professional approach to the work of the Board and to the development of the Ouseburn Trust.

• Good independent judgement and a strategic vision.
• An ability to work effectively as a member of a team.
• A commitment to work in the best interest of the Ouseburn Trust at all times and to take part in the work of the Ouseburn Trust through involvement in sub-committees.
• A range of skills and experience that will enable the Ouseburn Trust to fulfil its Primary Objectives and an understanding and acceptance of the legal responsibilities, duties and liabilities of Trusteeship.

Training provided

An extensive induction pack is available for new Trustees along with ongoing support from staff and fellow Trustees.

Over past decades, enormous advances have been made in our understanding of MS. Research has got us to a critical point, and we can see a future where nobody needs to worry about their MS getting worse. Our Stop MS Appeal needs to raise £100 million to find treatments for everyone with MS.

Our Stop MS Champions help us reach more people and inspire them to get involved in our Stop MS Appeal by encouraging raising funds and awareness by delivering presentations, attending events and identifying new audiences to speak to. They inspire people to engage with and influence fundraisers and groups, enthuse people and make sure our community’s voice is heard.

As our Lead Stop MS Champion, you’ll motivate your team of Stop MS Champions to help reach more people and inspire them to get involved in our Stop MS Appeal.

By using your ability to motivate and support, you will oversee and lead a team of 5-10 Stop MS Champion volunteers, encouraging them to engage the people they know to raise funds and awareness, and provide reliable information and guidance.

You’ll also network to engage with and influence fundraisers and community groups, enthusing people by delivering presentations at events and finding new audiences to speak to. In this role, as well as developing your leadership, networking, influencing, communication, organisation and presentation skills, you’ll have a chance to be part of something amazing – you could help us stop MS.

We are looking for new members to join our clinical team in Derbyshire South to support at local community events.

Volunteers will be required to undertake 2 days of face-to-face training for their role in addition to online learning modules. Meetings with the Network team take place on Monday and Thursday evenings, some available online.

We are looking to run a volunteering selection session on: Sunday 9th or Sunday 23rd November, Inductions will take place after the interviews. 

Face-to-face training for role will take place in Derby on 17th & 18th January 2026. You must be able to attend both days. Online learning can be done in your own time prior to the course.
