Job Title: EPAfrica Summer Team – Project Coordinator (PC)

Location: Kakamega, Kenya

Duration: Minimum 3 weeks during our summer programme, which runs from approximately late June –  to mid-September 2026

Start Date: The EPAfrica summer starts in late June, with travel to Kenya taking place several days before the Project Associates arrive.

Compensation: This is a non-salaried placement, with the following expenses covered:

Travel: All project-related travel in and around Kakamega County. Flight tickets are at the expense of the post holder*
Accommodation: Fully covered throughout the EPAfrica summer.
Programme delivery costs: All costs associated with programme delivery (travel to sites, partner meeting expenses, etc.) covered by the charity.

*Additional Costs: Round-trip flights to Kenya and limited subsistence costs, plus any personal travel elsewhere within Kenya (e.g., for your holiday week).

About EPAfrica

EPAfrica (Education Partnerships Africa) is a volunteer-led charity working in partnership with rural secondary schools in East Africa. Our focus is on a win:win approach to skills development and capacity building. We recruit, train and support graduates in the UK to develop leadership and project management skills, while working in partnership with rural schools in East Africa to create sustainable improvements in education by investing in people, resources, infrastructure, and local capacity. Project Coordinators play an essential role in this work, engaging directly with schools, developing a strong understanding of the local context, and supporting meaningful, long-term projects.

Role Overview

As a Project Coordinator (PC), you will be part of EPAfrica’s Summer Team, contributing to the effective delivery of our in-country programme. Working alongside the Project Manager and fellow Coordinators, you will help ensure that Project Associates (PAs) have the operational guidance, logistical support, and pastoral care they need during their placements.

The role offers a broad introduction to programme coordination, capacity building and grassroots development work. It provides valuable experience in supporting teams, navigating operational challenges, and contributing to the smooth functioning of a multi-site programme. Project Coordinators play an important part in maintaining programme quality and supporting volunteers as they apply training, develop confidence, and build relationships in partner schools.

Key Responsibilities

Working under the guidance of the Project Manager (PM), the Project Coordinator will:

Support Project Associates (PAs) in their placements, including:

• Monitoring project progress and helping PAs address challenges as they arise.

• Providing pastoral support and helping maintain volunteer wellbeing.

• Co-delivering training on topics such as project management, responsible development practices, cultural awareness, safety, and wellbeing.

Operational Coordination

• Assist with the coordination of logistics essential to programme delivery.

• Facilitate communication between PAs, the Summer Team, and the UK-based central charity team.

Monitoring & Evaluation

• Contribute to in-country monitoring and evaluation activities, including:

  • Monitoring visits to current and recent investment schools.

  • Assessment visits to potential future participant schools.

  • Staying informed on developments in the Kenyan education sector and their potential implications for our work.

• Support the maintenance of relationships with local partners.

Team Contribution

• Participate in Summer Team planning, reflection sessions, and process documentation.

• Help maintain the safety, security, and wellbeing of the Kenya-based team in line with EPAfrica’s risk guidelines.

Professional experience in areas such as safe guarding, change management, and leadership skills are all useful to a school. Soft skills such as communication and problem solving are also great additions.

Mentors are trained in relevant skills (emotional intelligence, active listening, managing relationships, etc.) and paired with mentees to help them achieve personal goals. Within this role you will:

· Provide empathetic, non-judgemental support for mentees working through challenges related to faith, identity and wellbeing

· Help mentees set and achieve personal goals

· Act as a positive role model and safe space

· Assist mentees in exploring reconciling their faith with their LGBTQ+ identity, supporting spiritual, emotional, and practical wellbeing

Food banks provide three-day emergency food parcels for people in crisis, working in partnership with organisations across the community. Drivers play a fundamental role in the running of the food bank, collecting food donations from a variety of locations such as supermarkets or churches across the local area as well as distributing the sorted donations from the warehouse to the local food bank centres. You will be given all the required training and provided with ongoing support and development opportunities. You will also have a main contact at the food bank throughout your time volunteering with us.

What will you be doing?

• Collecting food donations from collection points such as supermarkets, schools and churches within Brent

• Coordinating with the warehouse manager and supermarket community champions

• Delivering the food donations to the warehouse, located in Willesden

• Transporting sorted food from the warehouse across two food banks within Brent

• Regular loading and unloading of vehicles, helping your driver buddy

• Regular driving across the local area

elop runs a programme of weekly and monthly LGBTQ+ social, support and wellbeing clubs, groups, meet-ups and events; provided by and for LGBTQ+ communities.

Joining our LGBTQ+ volunteer facilitator team you will be part of an enthusiastic and dedicated team who value & appreciate the benefit of face-to-face socialising & networking, supporting LGBT people to come together in a welcoming, safe and supportive environment with opportunities to meet new people, form new friendships, gain peer support and much more. 

Each of elop’s dedicated clubs, groups or meet-ups run planned activities that supports shared interaction, positive LGBTQ+ identities and a feeling of being valued.

Volunteering in this role will give you opportunities to contribute & support the planning & promotion of group programmes, help in organising & facilitating sessions, along with supporting & enabling the involvement, voice & inclusion of all members attending, ensuring a welcome, supported, safe and comfortable environment for all.

Our clubs, groups, meet-ups and activities are delivered on various days and times across the week and weekends, plus during the day and evenings, so there are plenty of opportunities to get involved. 

You may already have some previous experience of activity facilitation, which is fantastic; however it isn’t necessary to come with all the skills & experiences already on board, just a friendly or outgoing personality with good communication abilities, the rest you’ll be supported to develop. 

Respecting diversity, understanding and upholding professional boundaries and confidentiality are of course fundamental to all of our work and you will be required support this. 

What you can expect as part of Team elop is to feel proud of being part of our dynamic team & volunteer community, to develop confidence, have enjoyment and know your contribution really does make a difference.

We know life can be busy, but ask all group volunteers to make a 6 month minimum commitment or around 2-3 hours a week average. 

All our volunteer facilitators must positively identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual and/ or trans (Schedule 9, Part 1, Paragraph 1 of the Equality Act 2010 applies).

Introducing Urban Youth: Igniting Potential in Inner London

In the vibrant, fast-paced heart of London, there is a generation of young people brimming with potential, yet facing unique challenges. They are the future, but for many, the path is obscured by deprivation, isolation, and a world increasingly dominated by screens.

That's why we created Urban Youth.

We are a brand new, dynamic youth work charity dedicated to cutting through the noise and reaching the young people who need us most in Inner London's deprived areas. Our mission is simple yet profound: to move beyond passive engagement and create active opportunities that inspire, connect, and empower.

Our Vision: Moving Beyond the Screen

Urban Youth is not waiting for young people to come to us; we are meeting them where they are. We are tearing down barriers to engagement by deploying innovative, flexible youth work:

• The Youth Bus: A mobile hub transforming spaces into instant centres of positive activity.

• Pop-Up Hubs: Breathing new life into unused community spaces or integrating within existing centres.

• School & College Partnerships: Working directly within educational settings and collaborating with other youth organisations to ensure seamless support.

Volunteer Graphic Designer – Share Your Heart of Gold with SUNSHINE

Loneliness is one of the fastest-growing epidemics of our time. Across London, thousands of people feel isolated and disconnected. At SUNSHINE, we believe no one should feel alone. Our mission is to bring sunshine into people’s lives through grassroots, community-led programmes that spark joy, foster friendships, and transform lives.

To help us shine even brighter, we are looking for a Graphic Designer with a Heart of Gold to create uplifting, vibrant designs that inspire, empower, and connect.

Why This Role Matters

Visuals are the heartbeat of SUNSHINE. They carry our message of joy, dignity, and community spirit into the world. As our Graphic Designer, you will help us:

• Promote our programmes so more people can join and feel connected.

• Celebrate our volunteers and supporters with designs that radiate gratitude and pride.

• Inspire funders and partners with professional, emotionally resonant materials.

• Spread sunshine across London through vibrant, positive imagery.

What You’ll Create

We’re especially looking for support with these initial designs:

1. Roller Banners – to take to events and showcase SUNSHINE.

2. Social Media Posts – promoting SUNSHINE, our programmes, our volunteer opportunities, and fundraising needs.

3. Business Stationery – letterhead, compliment slip, business cards, appointment card.

4. Leaflet (business card size) – a pocket-sized introduction to SUNSHINE.

5. Info and Motion Graphics – to promote SUNSHINE, tell our story and explain our impact in engaging ways.

6. Brochures – highlighting our mission, programmes, and community stories.

7. Fundraising Drive Promotionals – vibrant campaigns to inspire giving.

Who We’re Looking For

• A creative soul with a Heart of Gold who loves designing positive, uplifting visuals.

• Someone with skills in digital and/or print design (motion graphics a bonus!).

• A volunteer who believes in the power of design to inspire change and foster community.

• Passion for social impact and a desire to help tackle loneliness in London.
