Who are we?

St. John's is a non-maintained specialist provision, working with autistic people, the majority of whom also have learning disabilities. Some of our learners have co-occurring conditions such as epilepsy, hearing or visual impairments, or mental health needs. We also support autistic learners who have an additional profile of Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) syndrome. We have a team built up of support workers, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, nurses, PBS practitioners, assistant psychologists, and more, to support us in our holistic approach to development.

Each learner's curriculum is shaped by their individual strengths, interests, and challenges. St. John's is awarded with Autism Accreditation by the National Autistic Society (NAS). We support our learners to develop their skills in the NAS's four focus areas of:

Position: Bounce Back for Kids (BB4K) Assistant Support Worker

Location: The role is based in our Reading office with hybrid flexible working arrangements to provide for working at home and in the office. The role requires frequent travel across Reading, West Berkshire, Wokingham, South Oxfordshire and Vale of the White Horse to support our service users.

Hours: Monday to Friday. Generally no weekends or evenings, though there may be times client support needs or appointments mean these hours will be required.

The Key Working Function has been developed as a response to the NHS England & NHS Improvement Long Term Plan (LTP) commitment that by 2023/24, children and young people with a learning disability, autism, or both, with the most complex needs will have a designated Key Worker, applying the recommendations made by Dame Christine Lenehan in ‘These are our Children'. You’ll bring thoughtful leadership, resilience, and creativity — championing innovation while ensuring services remain safe, effective, and person‑centred.

You’ll have oversight of Outreach and Supported Housing services across Exeter, Weymouth, and parts of Somerset, supporting teams who work every day with people experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness. Through your leadership, you’ll strengthen services, nurture talent, and help create sustainable pathways out of homelessness for individuals and communities.

What you’ll be doing:

• Lead and inspire Service Managers, providing oversight across multiple projects and driving continuous improvement to ensure services thrive within Psychologically Informed Environments (PIE).
• Oversee the day‑to‑day delivery of outreach, support, and accommodation services, fostering a culture of accountability, quality, and excellence.
• Drive performance and impact through robust KPI reporting, using accurate data and high‑quality analysis to identify gaps, implement action plans, and support service improvement.
• Build and maintain strong partnerships, working collaboratively with internal teams and key external stakeholders, including local authorities, probation services, and commissioners.
• Participate in the senior management on‑call rota, providing leadership oversight and back‑up support to local on‑call teams when required.

• Full driving licence and access to own car for work purposes.
• Previous experience of managing services and teams across different locations.
• Knowledge and understanding of the support needs of people facing homelessness, including those with mental health challenges, complex needs and substance misuse issues.

About the Role 

Whitechapel Gallery is seeking an experienced and highly organised Senior Events Manager to lead the delivery of its full events programme, including fundraising galas, donor cultivation events, exhibition openings, private views and commercial venue hire. 

This is a senior, business-critical role working closely with the Director of Development to deliver a high-profile programme of events that support fundraising, stakeholder engagement and commercial income generation. 

You will take ownership of the end-to-end planning and execution of a diverse events portfolio, ensuring every event is delivered to an exceptional standard, on time and on budget. The role will play a key part in the successful delivery of the Gallery’s 125th anniversary programme, requiring creativity, operational excellence and strong commercial awareness.

Key Responsibilities 

• Lead the delivery of the Gallery’s annual events programme, including fundraising events, exhibition openings, donor events and venue hire activity

• Manage all aspects of event planning and delivery from concept through to evaluation

• Deliver high-quality events that contribute to fundraising and commercial income targets

• Manage event budgets, financial reporting and forecasting

• Oversee suppliers, production, AV, catering and venue logistics

• Build strong relationships with donors, sponsors, partners and internal stakeholders

• Line manage and support the Events Executive

• Maintain effective systems for event planning, guest management and reporting

• Ensure all events reflect the ambition, creativity and values of Whitechapel Gallery

About You 

We are looking for someone with: 

• Significant experience delivering complex, high-profile events programmes

• Strong project management and organisational skills with exceptional attention to detail

• Experience managing budgets, suppliers and operational delivery at scale

• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills

• The ability to manage multiple priorities within a fast-paced environment

• A calm, proactive and solutions-focused approach

• Experience within arts, culture, charity or commercial venue environments is desirable

• Experience delivering fundraising or donor-focused events is desirable
