Our mission is to help children and young people have a fair chance to be who they want to be. We do this by providing a safe home, increasing life skills and self-confidence, and improving emotional wellbeing and mental health.

We are looking for volunteer chaplains to help take part in informal weekly chaplaincy evenings to support the residents living in our Support Housing projects.

We house young people, aged 16-25, most of whom stay around 2 years. Our young people face many barriers; we provide a place and space for young people to feel safe through our projects that will lead to better life chances and a positive future. Our volunteers are at the heart of our work to support and encourage young people to turn their lives around.

YMCA DownsLink Group has a Christian foundation and inclusive vision. Our chaplaincy service helps ensure our YMCA supported accommodation is unique. Our multi-faith chaplains make a difference to the lives of young people in our supported accommodation by providing a space to be heard, to have fun and to eat together.

We are looking for people of faith or belief who are kind, good listeners, non-judgemental, with a sense of humour and a love of young people. We have a Christian Foundation and inclusive vision and we welcome applications from people of all faiths and beliefs. As a volunteer chaplain you will work as part of a team and spend time with the residents in their projects, cooking and eating with them, chatting, playing board games, and generally just being there for them. You will also receive training and support from one of our paid Chaplains.

We ask for a commitment of one evening (approximately 2 hours) every 2-3 weeks.

The aim is to support adult learners who need to improve their Digital skills, working both individually and as part of the Adult Education team to plan and deliver an agreed number of Digital skills courses.

Course description:

This class is specifically aimed at learners (ESOL Entry 2 +) who want to develop their basic digital skills. We work a lot on essential computer functions such as turning devices on and off, using the mouse and navigating applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Lessons are based on a wide range of different topics, but will have a particular focus on practising their digital literacy skills.

You need to:

- Be passionate about helping people achieve their potential

- Be a qualified/experienced Digital Skills practitioner

- Be able to carry out effective planning, monitoring and evaluation of courses

- Demonstrate a high level of computer literacy

Baby Basics Northampton is a registered charity that provides moses basket starter packs to parents with new babies in Northamptonshire, via referrals from healthcare professionals and local agencies.

The charity is in its 12th year, and ready to grow in line with community demand for our vital service. We are recruiting a Clerk to the Board of Trustees to ensure this much-loved local charity thrives as it increases both its reach and impact.

Overview

Baby Basics Northampton are seeking a friendly, efficient and reliable individual to act as a clerk to our Trustee (governing) board.

Working effectively with the Chair of Trustees and other Trustees, the Clerk will be responsible preparing agendas for meetings and ensuring the smooth running of meetings and maintaining accurate records.

This is a part-time voluntary role with circa 12 meetings held annually in-person. It is anticipated the role will require a commitment of 4 hours per month. Most meetings are held in the evenings. There may be opportunities to support outside of the meetings at events etc.

Responsibilities

• Produce, collate and distribute agendas and papers to ensure Trustees receive them within the agreed timescale;
• Ensure meetings are quorum;
• Attend meetings and take accurate and objective minutes with timescales for action;
• Submit draft minutes for amendment/approval and circulate approved documents;
• Monitor and report back on actions;
• Maintain records of Trustees membership, attendance, and terms of office;
• Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and maintain confidentiality at all times;
• Provide procedural advice to the Trustee Board as required;
• Deal with the administration concerning new Trustee appointments;
• Initiate a welcome pack/letter to be sent to newly appointed Trustees, including details of terms of office;
• Monitor the dedicated email address regularly and respond/forward emails as appropriate;

Requirements

• Good standard of general education.
• Proven experience in an administrative or clerical role is essential.
• Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and impartiality.
• Knowledge of charity governance regulations (or willingness to undergo training).
• Proficiency in using email, OneDrive / Sharepoint and online meeting platforms.

The Adult Literacy Trust (ALT) wants to help adult learners break the cycle of poor literacy by offering them personalised reading support.

We offer one-to-one literacy support as a complement to formal teaching in education settings. We are dedicated to ensuring that adults who wish to improve their literacy skills - and to increase their life chances - receive the help they need to become confident readers.

Would you like to support an adult learner to become a confident reader? We are looking for volunteers to become trained Reading Coaches and work with adult learners on a one-to-one (or sometimes one-to-two) basis.

What it looks like in practice:

• Meeting a learner weekly, on-site at their college campus, typically before or after their formal classes for about an hour a week
• Building a constructive relationship with a learner
• Helping to check the learner’s understanding, build their confidence in reading, and provide support where needed
• Helping the learner practice skills they’re learning in the classroom and encourage confidence and resilience so that they persist with their studies

ALT is partnered with a range of colleges across London as we assign you to a location that works for you. All our locations are listed on our website.

The timings are flexible - ALT match you to a learner based on your respective availability. Typically, most ALT sessions take place sometime between 10am-6pm, Monday to Friday.

Personal Specification:

No prior teaching experience or qualification is needed. We provide full training so that volunteers are confident to start their sessions. However, volunteers must:

• Be at least 18
• Be able to speak and write English well enough to communicate clearly.
• Have a minimum education of a secondary school level or equivalent (i.e. hold a GCSE or equivalent, in any subject).
• Be willing to undergo a DBS check (provided by ALT)

About us:

The Adult Literacy Trust provides adults with one-to-one support to improve their reading skills and confidence, as a complement to formal education provision, ensuring that individuals who wish to improve their literacy skills receive the help they need to become successful readers, and to increase their life chances.

Delivered through a network of specially trained volunteer Reading Coaches, our charity works closely with learning providers - such as Further Education Colleges and Institutes for Adult Learning - to assist people from some of the most disadvantaged communities who could benefit from enhanced support, strengthening learners’ outcomes from their participation in adult community education.

Evolve Counselling is a long-established charitable social enterprise, providing low cost, affordable or funded mental health counselling to adults in mainly Cambridgeshire and surrounding counties. Our counselling community is made up of 50 – 60 qualified self-employed practitioners, working part-time. We deliver talking therapies to adults – online and in person. Our service delivers around 500 counselling sessions per month to a broad range of individuals, many of whom would not otherwise be able to access counselling support. Evolve also provides supervision, reflective practice, critical incident support, and mental health awareness and related training, to organisations and businesses large and small.

Our Trustee Board is currently drawn from the counselling and therapies community, plus commercial and other charity backgrounds. We urgently need volunteers who can provide a friendly face, shop for and deliver groceries to our clients.

The Age Connects shopping service is an invaluable lifeline to so many older, vulnerable members of our local communities, particularly those with no family or friends to offer shopping support. We know that older people can become frail, and those who have mobility problems, who no longer drive or don’t have access to the internet, may find it difficult to do their weekly shop.

As a shopper you will be providing a shop and deliver service for the client either on a weekly or fortnightly basis. You will collect their shopping list, carry out the shopping and deliver it back to them. It could be that you’re the only person they see or speak to that day or even that week and it can be an opportunity to have a chat with the client, provide them with information about other services they may need or to offer practical help.

This is a fee paying service, the client will pay £5 per shop to the charity. If you are a friendly, reliable and trustworthy, you can help. You need to be aged 18+, and to be able to make a commitment for a minimum of 6 months: we will also require two character references, and will carry out a DBS check before you can start. It is best if you have access to your own transport, as some clients do not live centrally, or require large shops.

The Man Shed provides an alternative to formal support, enabling ‘Shedders’ to spend time with others in similar situations while engaging in a purposeful activity, learning new skills and enjoying friendship and support along the way. The primary aim of the Man Shed is to be a place to talk with others about anything and everything. Volunteers also help ‘Shedders’ to plan and safely work on their DIY projects, and make sure sessions run smoothly. 

We’re looking for Man Shed Session Leader Volunteers for all sessions but especially Mondays and Thursdays.
