What will you be doing?
West London College is a further education college with three centres located in Ealing, Hammersmith and Southall. For nearly 150 years, we have been providing training and development in the area, helping over 10,000 students achieve their career goals each year. The College has a governing body ('the Corporation') made up principally of governors appointed from outside the College to take legal responsibility for the College and make key decisions about how it is run.
Governors are individuals with broad skills and experience drawn from local communities and businesses, as well as from the public sector. The Board also includes staff members, student governors and the College’s CEO. The CEO (the only executive member on the Board) is responsible for the operational running of Ealing, Hammersmith and West London College (EHWLC).
The Board is advised by a Director of Governance, a professional independent of college management who accesses independent professional advice. The CEO and Board are also supported by a ‘senior leadership team’ with educational, financial and other relevant expertise. The Board, CEO and leadership team work together to set and implement college strategy and to be responsible stewards of the college’s assets.
What are we looking for?
The College has adopted the Education and Training Foundation's competency framework for governors and uses it for recruitment and performance purposes. Prospective governors should be able to evidence the majority of the Leadership and Values/Behaviours below. Developing expertise across the Technical elements will be supported by College staff and through participation in relevant training and development opportunities, for example via the Association of Colleges.
Governors will typically come to the College with a specific area of professional expertise. They need not be experienced in all of the areas highlighted.

What difference will you make?
Governors bring their professional experience and personal attributes to bear in support of the college’s educational mission. The Board includes a wide range of experiences and professional backgrounds. It is not necessary to have worked in an educational setting in order to serve as a college governor – indeed, the college benefits from outside perspectives just as much as experience from other schools, universities and colleges.
What we expect is a commitment to the mission, vision and values of West London College, a willingness to make a full contribution and the ability to devote the time required to make that a reality. Taking into account preparing for and attending formal meetings, visiting the colleges, and attending training and networking events, this is likely to be around 6-10 hours per month. Formal meetings are a combination of in-person and online events.
You will add value by applying your professional skills and external perspective to ensure that the College meets the challenges of its external environment with a broad perspective.

East London Waterworks Park is looking for comms strategists and PR managers to help grow East London Waterworks Park's audiences.
East London Waterworks Park is a charity that has raised £2m towards buying land from the Department for Education to transform the 14-acre Thames Water Depot on Lea Bridge Road on the border of Waltham Forest and Hackney, into a new biodiverse park with natural swimming ponds, forest schools and community spaces.

There is opportunity to lead on projects across communications, content creation, social media, PR, newsletters, film, podcasts or any other channels of interest, and facilitate the direction of the working group.
The Comms Circle currently meets fortnightly on a Tuesday evening on Google Meet and spends voluntary time outside of the meeting completing agreed tasks remotely.
You should be experienced in implementing effective strategic communications, managing media relations and social media platforms by creating engaging content, and building online communities. Strong writing and editing skills for various materials including press releases and social media posts. Comfortable with community-led processes. Our roles are quite flexible. You will support individuals who struggle to communicate with others and help them to reconnect with their local community. You will support to relight a spark in a hobby, interest or encourage individuals to explore and participate in new social activities.
What you will be doing
- Agree a mutual time and frequency to meet in the local community
- To develop and promote a positive relationship with your befriendee
- To encourage your befriendee to engage in social activities and support them in doing so whilst building their confidence
- To support your befriendee in developing their goals and social skills
- Encourage your befriendee to make links with community services, based on their identified goals
- To engage in conversation in Polish
The skills you need
- Ability to provide a supportive and inclusive atmosphere which motivates and inspires others
- Willingness to engage in activities in the community
- Able to maintain strict confidentiality and follow professional boundaries
- To be consistent in attendance
- Able to communicate confidently in Polish

About the role
We are a charity providing loving, compassionate care to veterans and their partners living with disability or dementia. We provide care in our Homes and have also developed services to support people in their own homes.
We are looking for really special individuals to join us as Telephone Friends for our new Telephone Friendship Service. This free service will reach out to veterans and their partners in the community via telephone, offering support and a friendly voice to someone who might be feeling lonely or isolated. We provide full training and support to encourage you on your journey.
We are looking for people who are caring, who always put others first and who show compassion and respect at all times. You will have a passion for embracing life and making it meaningful for yourself and those you support.
Time commitment: Minimum of 1 hour per week. There is no time limit on the length of service, but Telephone Friends are asked to make a commitment for a minimum of 12 months.
