·The Secretary’s main role is to ensure that everyone is kept informed.

·The key responsibilities of a Secretary include:

·Taking minutes (taking the notes of the meeting)

·Receiving correspondence on behalf of the group and keep the group up to date on correspondence

·Keep a list of the current members on the committee

·It may be possible to elect a separate minute taker to take some of the pressure off the Secretary, but this is at the discretion of the group.

·Organisation of meetings e.g., Time and place etc.

·Drafting the agenda with the Chairperson

·Taking of minutes

Role: Trustee – Finance Specialist (Treasurer Role Available) 

We are looking for a new Trustee with strong finance or accounting expertise to join our Board and help steward the charity’s finances. 

This is a key governance role. 

What we’re looking for 

We’re seeking someone who can provide financial oversight and strategic advice to ensure our resources are used effectively and transparently. 

You might have experience in: 

• Charity finance, audit, or financial management 

• Budgeting and forecasting 

• Risk management and financial reporting 

• Strategic financial planning 

• Investment, reserves or funding models for small charities

Trustee Commitment

What will you be doing?

At Home-Start Birmingham Central and South-West we are seeking a Chair to contribute their expertise and experience to lead and support the effective running and governance of the Scheme.

We’re looking for a skilled volunteer who can Chair the board, as well as lead on strategic and operational advice and guidance.

As Chair, you will work with fellow trustees and the Scheme Manager, to advise on governance, have oversight of finances, risks, safeguarding, lead on the direction of the Scheme to achieve its objectives and support operational aspects.

We are based in Lancashire, with national and international reach, and we welcome applications for remote Trustees. We currently have Trustees based in Portugal and the Netherlands.

The role of Trustee is a volunteer role and is not accompanied by any financial remuneration, although reasonable expenses for travel may be claimed.

The role requires attendance & contribution at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) and four Board meetings per year (plus any required preparation and pre-reading). Quarterly Board Meetings take place mostly online and periodically in person at a North West location.

There will also be potential additional engagement in strategy work and sub working groups throughout the year and occasional representation of the charity at various events with key stakeholders.
