The League of Remembrance have supported Armed Forces veterans, and their families for over 100 years. At the outset they supported the widows of those who never returned from the Great War, and, as they developed, extended this support to encompass all veterans who have served with the Forces of the Crown; their widows, spouses, and dependents; retired nursing staff and, more recently, to those suffering from illness or disability in order to aid their recovery. Today, many of their Remembrance Workers deliver varied volunteer services, mainly in Greater London, but with a presence also in Bucks and Essex. This service to the community maintains and improves individual health and wellbeing, offers companionship and social interaction, and provides valuable community support.

The League of Remembrance is seeking to strengthen its Board with the appointment of two new Trustees. We are looking for individuals who are passionate about supporting veterans and those affected by disability, and who can help shape the future of the charity as they continue to grow and evolve.

In particular, we are keen to hear from candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas:

• Entrepreneurship
• Fundraising and income generation
• Third sector leadership
• Business development or commercial strategy

Trustees have a duty to ensure that the charity is well run, solvent, legally compliant, and working towards the charitable purpose for which it was established, and Trustee roles are an important and a highly rewarding way to support an organisation. Loneliness and isolation can affect anyone in life, whatever their age or family situation. Official data from the Office for National Statistics shows that rates of depression doubled during the COVID pandemic, and one of the major causes of depression is isolation.

About the service..

We work with people who need support with their mental health across London and the South East. Our support ranges from registered accommodation services for people with severe mental health conditions to drop-in community and crisis services.

In the last year, 9,499 adults accessed Hestia’s mental health support.

We help people to feel safe, develop hope for a better future, and achieve their personal goals. These goals may include rebuilding relationships with family members and friends or connecting more with their local community.

Esaete Foundation

The organisation empowers young women to become economically independent do they can make informed decisions about their lives.

We offer menstrual health trainings in both schools and in community, we work with parents and local leaders to ensure that there is community awareness in regards to issues affect the girl child and women, we have started/opened up clubs in schools where students can get accurate information about their lives and these clubs also encourage students to stay in school. We encourage young girls to take up leadership positions right from lower class level, they can be prefects at school, local leaders for young women in their communities. East London Waterworks Park is a charity that has raised £2m towards buying land from the Department for Education to transform the 14-acre Thames Water Depot on Lea Bridge Road on the border of Waltham Forest and Hackney, into a new biodiverse park with natural swimming ponds, forest schools and community spaces. 

We are looking for communications strategists and PR to participate in our community-led working group who are promoting public awareness and support of the project. 

There is opportunity to lead on projects across communications, content creation, social media, PR, newsletters, film, podcasts or any other channels of interest, and facilitate the direction of the working group.

The Comms Circle currently meets fortnightly on a Tuesday evening on Google Meet and spends voluntary time outside of the meeting completing agreed tasks remotely.

You should be experienced in implementing effective strategic communications, managing media relations and social media platforms by creating engaging content, and building online communities. Strong writing and editing skills for various materials including press releases and social media posts. Comfortable with community-led processes. Our roles are quite flexible.
