About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and inspiring Chair of the Board of Trustees to provide strategic leadership and governance for C360. As Chair, you will work closely with the Chief Executive to ensure the charity delivers its mission and objectives while championing our core values: Collaboration, Innovation, Resilience, Initiative, and Inclusion (CIRII).
 

The Chair also holds trustee responsibilities, ensuring Community360 operates within the law, maintains the highest standards of governance, and protects the charity’s reputation, assets, and beneficiaries.
 

Key Responsibilities
 

Strategic Leadership & Governance
 

• Lead the Board in providing clear strategic direction and oversight of C360’s activities, ensuring alignment with its vision and mission.
• Ensure the Board pursues its stated charitable objectives and maintains compliance with governing documents, charity law, and other regulations.
• Promote best practice in governance and foster a culture of accountability, openness, and integrity.
• Chair and facilitate Board meetings efficiently, promoting informed, constructive, and inclusive discussion and decision-making.
• Appraise and support the Chief Executive, including monitoring performance against agreed objectives and providing professional development opportunities.
• Oversee risk management, financial stability, and the effective use of the charity’s resources.
• Ensure proper policies and procedures are in place and followed, maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information.

External Relations & Ambassadorship
 

• Act as an ambassador for C360, building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders, partners, and the wider community.
• Represent the charity externally at events, meetings, and functions, promoting its mission and values.

Trustee-Level Duties
 

• Act in the best interests of C360, its beneficiaries, and the wider community at all times.
• Safeguard the charity’s assets, property, and financial integrity.
• Support the strategic development of key areas of C360 business using local knowledge, networks, and relationships.
• Act as a counter-signatory on cheques and applications for funding in accordance with financial procedures.

Required Skills & Qualifications
 

• Significant experience as a trustee, non-executive board member, or senior leadership role within a charity, social enterprise, or complex organisation.
• Strong strategic leadership skills with the ability to inspire, challenge, and support the Board and Executive.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with confidence in an ambassadorial role.
• Proven ability to foster collaboration, innovation, and resilience in teams.
• Knowledge of charity governance, finance, and regulatory requirements.

Experience
 

• Experience of working at a senior strategic level, chairing meetings, and leading organisational change.
• Successful track record of external representation, stakeholder engagement, and building networks.
• Experience of promoting organisational growth, innovation, and high standards of governance.

About our Trustee Team

Our Trustees are a team of volunteers who use their diverse skills, experiences, and perspectives to set the strategic direction of the charity and make sure it’s doing what it was set up to do in the best possible way.

Family Holiday Charity has an ambitious strategy over the next few years, which will see us expand our services to families, develop our influencing work within the travel and leisure industry and government, and evolve our ways of working so that we can accept and use gifted breaks, travel and other services at scale to give families who really need it a holiday.

To help us do all that we’ll need the guidance, challenge, connections, and support of all our Trustees.
Given our goals, we’re particularly looking to add the following professional skills and experiences to our team.

• Legal Expertise - Our Trustees have a duty to ensure the charity operates within the law and complies with regulatory responsibilities, including charity law, safeguarding and governance requirements. This may involve providing advice on legal risks and obligations, ensuring compliance with articles of association and relevant legislation, supporting decisions on contracts, partnerships, risk management and more.
• Family Charity leadership - the Charity's vision if that 'every family in the UK should have a holiday' and this bold statement reflects our belief that time away together is not a luxury but a lifeline. We're seeking experience from a family support base to help advocate for our beneficiaries needs and help us expand our reach.
• Influencing / Campaigning - We are seeking experience and ambition that will help us influence policy and industry practices through the development of relatinships with policymakers, travel and tourism industry and media etc. Also shape campaigns, raise awareness, drive systemic change and support advocacy strategies to remove barriers for families. 
• Digital Transformation - We wish to evolve and develop our digital strategy and technology adoption. A key priority is to ensure our digital growth is considered and aligns with accessibility and security.

Your Skills and Contribution

You'll need: 

• Strategic vision, independent judgement, and an ability to think creatively.
• A proactive attitude, willing to bring new ideas and perspectives to our Board, and confident about challenging decisions, where necessary, in the best interests of the charity.
• Willingness to understand and take on the duties and responsibilities of trusteeship.
• Commitment to the charity and our mission, and the ability to devote the necessary time and effort to do the role well.

The Commitment 

We’ll ask you to participate in four two-hour Board Meetings per year, typically in person at our office in London or remotely.We also get together for a Strategy Day in September/October, which is held on a weekday in London, and you’d need to attend that in person.

We can support with any access needs for in-person meetings.,

There are two Board sub-committees- one which focuses on our Finances and Risk, and one which considers our people (Trustees and Staff). Once you’ve settled into the role, most Trustees join one of them. They meet remotely around four  times a year.

Outside of formal meetings, you’ll be warmly encouraged to get to know the staff team, and attend fundraising events 
or other events to meet referrers, families, and supporters wherever possible.

Overall, you’ll need to be able to commit around 6 hours each month for a mix of meetings and events, contributing
your skills and perspective to projects, building your knowledge of the charity and developing as a Trustee.

Join the dedicated team at Historic Croydon Airport and contribute to preserving and sharing the rich history of one of the world’s oldest airports. As a volunteer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that visitors have a memorable and safe experience while exploring this historic site.

With a choice of either the morning (9am-1pm) or afternoon shift (1-5pm), we ask that volunteers work at least 10 hours per month - on the first Sunday of each month and an additional weekend.

Responsibilities:

1. Visitor Engagement:

   • Greet and treat all visitors equally, with respect, and without discrimination.
   • Provide knowledgeable and engaging information about the history of Croydon Airport.
   • Assist with visitor inquiries and enhance their overall experience.

2. Safety and Security:

   • Be vigilant about the safety of visitors both inside and outside Airport House.
   • Inform visitors of potential hazards, such as crossing kerbs or the road outside Airport House and using stairs within the building.
   • Ensure visitors are aware of emergency exits and the evacuation procedure. Tour Guides should mention this at the start of each tour, and other volunteers should do so when appropriate.

3. Operational Support:

   • Arrive on time for Open Days to assist with setting up and closing down activities.
   • Help maintain the cleanliness and orderliness of the site throughout the day.
   • Participate in team meetings and training sessions as required.

Qualifications:

• A keen interest in history and heritage, particularly in aviation and the history of Croydon Airport.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work as part of a team and independently.
• Commitment to treating all visitors with respect and without discrimination.
• Punctuality and reliability.

Training: All volunteers will undergo an induction process, including a review of the HCAT Induction document covering emergency exits and evacuation procedures.

Grassroots Welsh charity TIR COED has been connecting people with land (Tir) and woodlands (Coed) for over 25 years. We deliver outdoor training, learning and wellbeing programmes in Mid and South West Wales, across Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and Powys, successfully benefitting hundreds of people each year in those counties.

Our aim is to reduce health and wealth inequalities for marginalized people, while improving community spaces and biodiversity for the benefit of all. 

We are looking for 4 new trustees to deliver good governance for the charity and to help us continue to set and achieve our aims as we move into a new cycle of strategic planning and delivery.

We welcome applicants from all sections of the community. Transferrable management skills or other relevant experience (e.g. HR, law, marketing) in any field is an advantage but experience of being a trustee is not essential: you will be joining a team of experienced trustees from a range of backgrounds in the public and private sectors and training can be arranged.

We welcome applications from young adults who wish to contribute their voices to our work while enhancing management experience. We also welcome applications from former Tir Coed trainees.
