ABOUT THE ROLE
As part of our Community Support team, you will play a key role in ensuring the fulfilment of our users' needs by sharing information about our services, projects, and activities; this takes place in person, through our digital channels and helpline. Additionally, you will be responsible for keeping up to date information about other services and partner organisations.
The primary challenge faced by the Latin American community is the language barrier, which hinders their comprehension of the UK system and their entitlements. Taking part in the Community Interpreting service, you will support service users in navigating these obstacles, enabling them to establish a more integrated life in the UK.
This is an exciting opportunity for anyone who wants to better understand the challenges faced by the Latin American community in London; use their language skills in a positive and impactful way; and develop valuable administrative and customer service skills in a multicultural, fast-paced organisation.
MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
● Connecting service users to our services, projects and activities in person or by answering phone calls and emails
● Supporting users with general enquiries, referring them to relevant services within our organisation as well as signposting and referring to external services
● Registering users on our database and keeping accurate records of services offered
● Monitoring internal calendars and appointments
● Sharing useful, up-to-date information with users as instructed by other team members
● Ensuring internal communications, flyers and handouts are up to date
● Interpreting calls for service users and supporting with non-official translations
● Supporting community members with basic application forms
● Liaising with staff in other departments and with external contacts
PERSON SPECIFICATION
● Good verbal and written communication skills in English and Spanish and/or Portuguese
● Ability to work effectively as a member of a team and with a diverse population of service users, staff and partners
● A caring, sensitive and non-judgemental approach
● Ability to cope with stressful and emotionally challenging issues
● Professionalism to handle sensitive and confidential information
● Excellent organisational skills, attention to detail and ability to multitask
● Ability to set their own work priorities, take initiatives and work with minimal supervision
● Good IT skills, including in using Microsoft and Google suite packages and different database systems

We currently provide support to 87 people, providing 6,468 weekly support hours. As our housing aspirations grow, we also act as a landlord for 45 people ensuring they have a safe, secure and affordable home.
As we enter a new chapter - shaping a modernised mission, strengthening governance, and expanding our housing and support across Cornwall, Devon and Plymouth - we are seeking several exceptional Trustees, including a Chair Designate (Deputy Chair) to succeed our long-standing Chair in 2026.

Who we’re looking for
We are looking for individuals who share our passion and commitment to delivering person-led, high-quality support and housing solutions.
As an incoming Trustee, your skills, experience, and passion will be instrumental in ensuring that we focus on what we do well, supporting people to support people.
We have identified priority areas to complement our existing strengths. In our Deputy Chair / Chair Designate, we are seeking someone who brings experience of chairing boards, ideally in a charity setting. More broadly, we are seeking Trustees with experience in strategic roles in one (or more) of the following areas:
· Legal (ideally contracts / leases / property)
· HR and People and Culture
· Finance
· Marketing / Communication
· Housing Management/Asset Management/Housing Development (ideally registered providers)
· Commissioning/safeguarding/support
· Business development – particularly in the social care sector

The roles

Provide strategic leadership, oversight, and challenge to ensure Havencare fulfils its mission: helping people live their lives through opportunity and choice.
Commitment
- Four Board meetings per year (in person)
- Four committee meetings per year (virtual/in-person)
- Trustees sit on at least one committee
- Time commitment c.10 hours/month (Trustees), increasing to 3–4 days/month for Chair appointment

Teachers and educational facilitators wanted to help East London Waterworks Park deliver its environmental learning goals.
East London Waterworks Park is a volunteer-led charity that has won a 2024 New London Architecture award and raised £2m towards buying land from the Department for Education to transform the 14-acre Thames Water Depot on Lea Bridge Road on the border of Waltham Forest and Hackney, into a new biodiverse park with natural swimming ponds, forest schools and community spaces.
We are seeking experienced teachers and educational facilitators to lead workshops and deliver engaging environmental education sessions to children and young people. Sessions may take place at schools or around the perimeter of the site we want to transform into East London Waterworks Park.
This role would include:
- Leading hands-on outdoor learning workshops
- Delivering nature-based activities to school groups
- Supporting the creation of ELWP’s Under 18s volunteering policy
- Supporting outreach efforts to promote ELWP’s existing learning programmes

The Learning Circle currently meets monthly on a Wednesday evening at 8pm for an hour on Google Meet and spends voluntary time outside of the meeting completing agreed tasks remotely
You should be an experienced teacher, educational consultant, forest school leader, training and development specialist, learning designer, facilitator or any other kind of role creating learning projects, programmes and experiences. Our roles are quite flexible. We hope that people bring radical imagination, peace with nature, and courageous inclusiveness to the role.
Your support will help young people and learners improve their environmental knowledge of design and research as well as contributing to our community-owned park. This will in turn provide a sense of stewardship over the land once the park is created and student's ideas have been built into the park. Creating learning projects with educational institutions will also help our charity with the strategy to buy the land through showing the value of our environmental education programme before we create the park.
You will have a significant impact on the creation of a new biodiverse community-owned park with free access natural swimming ponds. By volunteering in this role, you will help shape the future of East London Waterworks Park as a community-led environmental learning space. This will also help our charity with the strategy to buy the land through showing the value of our environmental education programme before we create the park.
