Martin Lewis' charity the Money and Mental Health Policy Institute are looking to appoint two or three trustees who bring the skills, insight and critical challenge to guide us through the next stage of our journey. Duties and Responsibilities
Grant writing
- Developing and writing grant proposals to foundations and other grant-making organisations.
- Assembling and submitting grant requests, including letters, proposals, and budgets.
- Track and create a calendar of grant opportunities - including deadline dates, required materials,
- Researches and identifies potential sources of funders and corporate and governmental funding.
- Complete and submit grant applications to secure funding
Tender & Bid Writing
- Write and submit tenders to win contracts.
- Maintaining awareness of tenders, acquiring PQQ questionnaires and tender documentation.
- Responding to tender invitations from the UK and other governments, EU tenders, the public sector and local authorities from the UK in areas such as health and social care.
- Recruit partners for the EU grants & tenders and other tender projects.

Funding and Finance
The role will involve seeking and securing funding and finance for the specific goals, objectives, targets, and outcomes. Each volunteer will have the opportunity to choose their goal and set a fundraising target to achieve.
Qualifications, Experience and Skills Required
- Degree in any subject area that results in superb language writing skills, including grammar, clarity and style.
- Excellent writing, analytical, and research skills are essential. Candidates must be self-motivated, detail-oriented, and highly organised and have experience using online databases and other sources to locate biographical, financial, and philanthropic information.
- You MUST have at least 3 years of experience writing and delivering successful grants and tenders, especially for public health contracts such as health checks, smoking cessation, etc., from the UK government, NHS, DOHSC, Ministry of Justice, London authorities, and county councils.
- An understanding and passion for issues affecting Africa's political, social and economic development and health, social care, climate change and environmental development.

Ealing Foodbank is a local charity, serving people in Ealing who need emergency food. We are open 8 times a week at 7 locations around Ealing. We give out around 1300 food parcels a month. Being a trustee

Its aim is to support individuals experiencing serious mental health issues in the London Borough of Sutton. We aim to keep such individuals well and active helping them to have a voice in the provision of mental health care in the Borough. Our vision is to provide a community in Sutton which values mental wellbeing and understands how to respond positively to individuals’ anxiety and distress. The Foundation works together to promote mental wellbeing resilience and recovery from mental distress.We provide nonclinical support through our Intentional Peer Support programme together with a Day Service and a Crisis Cafe at our centre in Belmont. We receive funding mainly from the NHS and the London Borough of Sutton although we are part of the Voluntary Sector.

The Fourth Choir is seeking passionate and dedicated individuals to join the board managing our LGBTQ+ charitable entity and arts organisation.
The choir was founded in 2013 to give professional and non-professional LGBTQ+ singers and allies the opportunity to sing a cappella choral music to the highest standard possible, and since then has since performed more than 100 times in over 40 venues.
Fostering a fully inclusive musical environment is at the heart of what we do, and we work to affirm the identities of our members, support their wellbeing, challenge stereotypes and explore innovative themes through our activities and concert programming.
The choir is a registered charity and incorporated as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO). We are governed and managed by a small board of trustees, all of whom are currently active singers with the choir. As well as governing and directing the strategic development of the choir, our trustees also manage ongoing operations, with each taking a lead role for a particular function.
We employ a professional Musical Director, who is responsible for our programming and musical leadership, and also work on occasion with a roster of Guest Conductors.
To continue building upon the success of our first decade, we are seeking to recruit external trustees to a number of key positions, who can bring external perspective, experience in key areas and help to build the capacity of our management team.
Roles we are looking to fill include:
Treasurer
Responsibilities
- Prepare annual financial report for the Charity Commission
- Keep records of income and expenditure and report on profit and loss position of events
- Pay invoices for professional fees and services

- Bookkeeping experience in a business or nonprofit capacity
- Experience using accounting software such as Xero
Secretary
Responsibilities
- Keep accurate minutes of planning and board meetings
- Manage schedule of planning meetings
- Potentially take on additional organisational responsibility, such as venue bookings

- Prior experience with minuting meetings and following up with agreed actions
- Highly organised and collegiate
Philanthropy Lead
Responsibilities
- Identify and apply for grant opportunities and report on activities
- Develop sponsorship relationships with corporate and individual donors
- Manage our communications with and offers to significant donors

- Experience managing and growing a giving program for a charity
- Successfully sourced grant funding and/or corporate sponsorship

ShowerBox is a registered charity that has been providing free and secure showers as well as toiletries and supplies, warm drinks, snacks and haircuts to individuals facing homelessness since 2018. Our mission is to enhance our guests’ sense of physical well-being and dignity, help combat social isolation, and provide access to other essential resources such as health clinics and mobile libraries. By empowering individuals, we hope to help them make long term improvement in their lives.
Learning of individuals having passed away from preventable illnesses on the streets due to an inability to get clean and the social stigma associated with poor personal hygiene, Sarah Lamptey (our CEO) started offering weekly showers in St. Giles churchyard in Soho, London, from 2019. ShowerBox became a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) in 2021 and since then has been expanding nationally. Now, we operate in multiple sites – Central London, Birmingham, and Barking – either independently or in partnership. Central London remains our biggest site, followed by Birmingham and Barking, and we are in initial discussion with others. We receive our funds through philanthropy – currently supported by National Lottery Community Fund, Vitol Foundation, HS2, amongst others.
The Board of Trustees is the ultimate governance body for the organisation, serving as stewards of the organisation’s resources, and is ultimately responsible for ShowerBox’s strategy, operations, adherence to law and regulation and financial management. The Trustees serve on a voluntary basis, and meet four or five times a year (online or in person in London).
What are we looking for?
We are looking for a Chairperson to take ShowerBox forward into an important and influential role following and building on the success it has had since becoming a CIO and expanding into 3 locations.
The Chair leads the Board of Trustees and works closely with ShowerBox’s CEO to achieve its goals. The Chair is responsible for key areas, including:

Providing effective strategic leadership and management to the Board of Trustees enabling them to fulfill their responsibilities for the overall governance and strategic direction of ShowerBox

Providing support to the CEO and ensuring s/he is held to account for achieving agreed strategic objectives

Ensuring the Board meets regularly to review activities, major risks and opportunities

Ensuring Trustees fulfill their duties and responsibilities for effective governance of ShowerBox

Ensuring the Board is regularly refreshed and incorporates the right balance of skill, knowledge and experience needed to govern and lead the charity effectively

Conducts an annual appraisal and remuneration review of the CEO in consultation with other Trustees

Acts as an ambassador for ShowerBox, representing it at external functions, meetings and events as appropriate and as spokesperson for the organisation when appropriate

Ensuring financial stability and effective and efficient administration of ShowerBox

Person Specification

Interest in making a difference in the lives of people experiencing homelessness/housing insecurity

Experience serving as a Trustee or Board member (in either for-profit or non-profit organisation). Previous experience as Chair of a voluntary organisation is an advantage.

An understanding of legal duties, responsibilities, and liabilities of trusteeship, together with an understanding of the financial aspects of running a charity.

An ability to work effectively as part of a team contributing an independent perspective.

Strong leadership, people management skills and the ability to chair meetings effectively.

Ability to devote time and effort to support a small and growing charity and fulfill the duties outlined above.

Prepared to attend four board meetings per year (mostly online) plus one or two ad hoc committees and/or events in line with their expertise, specific interest, or as needed
Terms of Appointment
Chair of Trustees is appointed for a 2 year, renewable term. It is anticipated that the time commitment should be no more than 2 days a month but there could be occasions when extra time will be required (for instance, during planning of new projects or when dealing with unexpected situations). The role of Chair is unpaid.
