Job description

Compliance Manager

Do you have a passion for data protection? Could you help to deliver and embed a governance and compliance framework and culture across the Charity that promotes choice, control and transparency? Do you enjoy working in a fast-paced environment and want to develop your skills in one of the country’s leading children’s charity?

As the first point of contact in the Charity for governance and compliance matters, the Compliance Manager is a pivotal role for our client. You will champion a practical and pragmatic approach to implementing legislation, regulation and best practice.

Compliance Manager Responsibilities:

You will be self-motivated, with a positive can-do attitude and an excellent ability to build and develop cross-term relationships quickly and effectively. The advice and support you provide will contribute to ensuring both the Charity and its third-party suppliers act in compliance with legislation, regulation and best practice. Helping the Charity to maintain the required records of activity; identify and investigate any areas of risk or concern; enabling individuals to exercise their legal rights and supporting a programme of monitoring against identified key performance indicators and measures will form your key objectives.

About the Team

The Compliance Manager sits within the Charity’s Governance, Legal and Compliance Department. The Department leads on a programme of compliance which spans across corporate, data protection and fundraising governance. With operational responsibility for all aspects of legislative, regulatory and monitoring requirements including those set out by the Charity Commission, Fundraising Regulator, Information Commissioner and Gambling Commission the Department’s workload is varied and far-reaching.

Reporting directly to the Head of Governance, Legal and Compliance, you will work in a small but close-knit team of subject matter experts. In addition, you will routinely collaborate with colleagues across both Fundraising and Cross Charity Teams.

Compliance Manager Requirements:

- Have significant understanding and experience of data protection and fundraising compliance ideally in the Charity sector.
- Be flexible and responsible with a proactive approach to problem solving.
- Be able to inspire, influence and enthuse others – making governance matters engaging.
- Be able to describe complex regulations and their practical implications to those who aren’t subject matter experts.
- Be able to work collaboratively, leading on projects and working as part of a wider project team.

Recently awarded with a ‘Best Companies 2-star accreditation' and placed number 17 on the 2019 Sunday Times Best 100 Not-for-Profit Companies list - they offer a range of attractive benefits including; a flexible approach to working, 30 days holiday, life assurance, enhanced employer pension contributions, and a discounted season ticket loan.

About our client:

Every day brings new challenges for our client. Every day, over 600 seriously ill children from across the UK arrive for life-changing treatments. Every day, young lives hang in the balance as patients, families and staff battle the most complex illnesses. And every day, the brightest minds come together to achieve pioneering medical breakthroughs that change the lives of thousands of children – and change the world. This extraordinary hospital has always depended on charitable support to give seriously ill children the best chance to fulfil their potential. Without donations, our client can’t help fund ground-breaking research, advanced equipment, child and family support services, and the rebuilding and refurbishment of wards and medical facilities. Their staff help to raise these vital funds for the hospital. A better future for seriously ill children starts with you.
