Job description

Clifton College is a leading co-educational public boarding school welcoming pupils aged 3 months-18 from all over the world.  Situated in the vibrant city of Bristol, we are a school with exceptional pastoral care, inspirational teaching, first-class inclusive sport, diverse co-curricular activities and an outstanding environment.

Clifton College is committed to embedding safeguarding into the whole school. Pastoral care and academic achievement go hand in hand and we recognise that one cannot flourish without the other. Our girls and boys perform best when they are happy and secure, and Clifton College is proud to have built a caring and supportive community.  As part of our commitment to the highest standards in safeguarding, we are now seeking to appoint an expert leader to take responsibility for safeguarding and child protection matters in the College.

Reporting to the Head of College, the Director of Safeguarding will join the College’s Leadership Team and will offer substantial safeguarding experience and in-depth knowledge of relevant legislation, policy, procedures and good practice regarding children’s welfare and wellbeing.  They will undertake the role of Designated Safeguarding Lead as defined in Keeping Children Safe in Education 2021. They will possess excellent relationship-building skills, a personal ethos of service and the expertise to further develop the safeguarding team at the College.  Direct experience of the independent schools sector is not a pre-requisite and applications are encouraged from senior leaders with public sector and charitable backgrounds.

Completed applications should be uploaded at our website quoting reference number 5489. The closing date for applications is 08:30 GMT on Thursday 6 January 2022.

Clifton College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Applicants will be required to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
