Purpose of the Job

The Director of Finance will join the leadership team, contributing to the overall management of the charity and provide strategic oversight across Finance, IT, Health & Safety and Risk management.

This role is critical in ensuring the charity’s long-term sustainability and effectiveness in supporting people who need us most. The postholder will ensure robust financial management, foster a supportive and inclusive workplace culture, and lead the development of digital systems that enhance service delivery and organisational resilience.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Mission and values

• Champion a culture of accountability, inclusion, and continuous improvement.

Strategic Leadership

• Support the lead role of the CEO on Board Reporting.
• Work closely with the CEO and Board to shape and deliver the charity’s strategic and budget plan.
• Lead the development of financial and IT strategies that support the charity’s compliance.

Finance

• Oversee all financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, financial control, reporting, and audit.
• Ensure organisation-wide compliance with internal financial procedures and legal compliance.
• Prepare reports for the Leadership Team and Board of Trustees analysing performance against KPIs.
• Provide financial reporting to high level commissioners.
• Develop the annual budget and financial forecasting in collaboration with the Leadership and Senior Management Team.
• Oversee cashflow management.
• Translate complex financial information to non-finance budget holders to help them manage their own budget and make informed decisions.

IT, Health & Safety and Risk Management

• Oversee the IT infrastructure and cyber security, ensuring appropriate development and maintenance of IT systems.
• Ensure compliance with data protection regulations (e.g., GDPR), particularly in relation to sensitive client data.
• Oversee organisational compliance including gaining and retaining accreditation certificates including ISO accreditation.
• Oversee Health & Safety Compliance including management of the organisational Facilities function and the annual Health and Safety Audit.
• Oversee risk management policies and processes including the updating of the Board Risk Register in collaboration with SMT colleagues.

About the Role

We are looking for a skilled and conscientious Corporate Appointee & Finance Officer to join our team.

This important role combines financial administration with the responsibility of acting as a corporate appointee or deputy, supporting vulnerable clients who are unable to manage their own financial affairs.

You will ensure that income such as welfare benefits and pension is received, bills are paid, and clients’ finances are carefully managed. You will use Xero accounting software to maintain accurate records and make secure online payments.

Responsibilities include:

• Strategic Direction: Lead PBI UK, representing it to external stakeholders, including funders, policymakers, collaborators and the legal community. Oversee day-to-day operations to align with the strategic and operational evolution of the broader PBI. The Finance Officer will work within the Finance Department to provide essential day today financial processing, support and advice. The post-holder will be a key member of the team in keeping accurate and up to date records of the organisations financial activities on both the accounting system & associated files.

You’ll be based at the Wildlife Trust’s Head Office at Centre of the Earth, 42 Norman Street, Birmingham, B18 7EP, with some work at our EcoPark site in Small Heath and occasional travel across the region and nationally. 

Key Responsibilities

• Creation and maintenance of processes and systems to ensure the smooth running of the finance function including adding new suppliers and customers to the system

We are seeking a highly experienced and strategic safeguarding specialist to be our Diocesan Safeguarding Officer (DSO) to lead safeguarding across the Diocese. Effectively as Head of Safeguarding, this is a senior leadership role with independent authority of the Diocesan Bishop, responsible for the professional oversight of safeguarding children, young people, and vulnerable adults. 

The Head of Safeguarding provides expert guidance, manages safeguarding concerns and allegations, and ensures the implementation of national safeguarding standards. You will lead a dedicated team, collaborate with senior clergy and external agencies, and ensure that safeguarding is embedded in every aspect of diocesan life. 

Some of the key responsibilities of the role include:  

Culture, leadership, and Capacity 

• Lead the development and implementation of the diocesan safeguarding strategy. 

• Work closely with the Bishop of Guildford, Cathedral Dean, Diocesan Secretary, and senior clergy to promote a culture of safeguarding excellence. 

• Support the Independent Chair of the Diocesan Safeguarding Advisory Panel (DSAP), ensuring effective governance and oversight. 

• Oversee diocesan responses to audits, quality assurance, and Safeguarding Practice Reviews. 

Prevention 

• Implement the Church of England’s Safeguarding Code of Practice across the Diocese. 

• Provide expert safeguarding advice to clergy, parishes, and the Cathedral. 

• Ensure safer recruitment practices are followed across all diocesan bodies. 

• Develop and oversee the diocesan safeguarding training plan in line with the Church of England’s Learning and Development Framework. 

• Ensure training is high-quality, legally compliant, and regularly reviewed.

• Lead and coordinate all safeguarding casework within the Diocese, ensuring that work is completed as required by Church of England Managing Safeguarding Allegations Code of Practice, and statutory guidance and legal responsibilities.

We are seeking a Grants and Trusts Manager to secure and manage the funding that enables this vital work. Key Responsibilities
Strategy and Planning

• Work with the CEO to implement Gilgal’s Fundraising and Income Generation Strategy.

• Prepare a rolling income generation plan with timelines and bid targets.

About the Role
The Deputy Manager plays a key role in the leadership of Wayside Community, supporting the Women’s Homelessness Lead in the day-to-day running and development of the service.
