Job description

We seek a “people person” to play a key role at the centre of the team, managing the interface between the collection, publication, and promotion of oral hisory of UK technology.  Dealing with the fascinating characters who made the history, our experts who interpret it and our audience who use it in their research and teaching.

  • Liaising with leaders of industry and historical figures to arrange interviews
  • Working with transcribers and writers, processing interviews to add to archive
  • Publication of material on our website
  • General admin and monitoring of finances
  • A hub for internal and external communications with stakeholders and users of material

The role

  • Notionally three days per week, flexible to match your needs and ours
  • Self employed at £15 per hour
  • Working from home or other own premises. 
  • Physical meetings (when permitted) may be required in various locations

The Person

  • Essential
    • Cheerfully getting things done by influence rather than authority, working with a wide range of people from Tech experts to senior industry and Government figures
    • Competence in office technology and applications including WordPress is a must
    • Good communication skills are vital – written and verbal – as are numeracy skills / simple financial and other record keeping.
  • Highly desirable
    • Interest in history and / or technology would be brilliant, as would experience in museums, curation and / or academic research
    • Knowledge of website content management, social media, newsletters, blogs etc is a definite plus
    • Experience of the Charity / not for profit sectors and their culture would be useful
