The Sports & Community Centre has a newly installed sports pitch, small gym, sports hall, and community halls/rooms. It also has a large outside field prime for development as part of our nature and wellbeing programmes in tandem with our second centre, our Nature & Wellbeing Centre by Edgbaston Reservoir.

The Centre hosts a wide range of community activities – Sports & Fitness, Little Settlers, Ageing Well, Training, Learning & Wellbeing, accredited Money Advice Services, and other social activities to bring people together to share and build community and personal wellbeing.

As Centre Manager and as a key member of the Settlements’ Management Team, you will manage and lead the Centre, ensuring we are fit and focused for the years to come, delivering high-quality services and activities our people want, deserve, and expect. You will have energy and vision, a track record in community development and enterprise, excellent leadership qualities with ability to motivate and inspire others. This will be a very busy but rewarding hands on role that cuts across all aspects of the charity as we continue to grow and develop.

Who you are: We are looking for dedicated, adaptable and empathic people with a background in providing high-quality emotional support and advocacy. Experience gained in the following kinds of roles tends to transfer well to the role of caseworker at Brake: police force, roles within the criminal justice system, family liaison officer, counsellor, experience in health and social care or previous caseworker experience in any area. 

Specifically seeking candidates that have:

• A full clean UK driving licence, with your own vehicle and a willingness to use it for work purposes (travel expenses will be reimbursed)
• Located in the Devon and Cornwall area. You will support service users through their preferred communication method, which may be via Teams or telephone and there will be some face-to-face meetings with clients in their own home or safe meeting place
• Experience of frontline care for people in crisis with acute vulnerabilities and risks (desirable but not essential) 
• Comprehensive understanding of the processes involved in the criminal justice system (desirable but not essential) 
• Research and advocacy skills – you will reach out to other organisations to support your cases where required 
• Significant resilience, and willingness to be professionally developed and clinically supervised

About this key role

Our successful candidate will engage and support young people, adults and families once they have been identified as being involved in a violence-related incident, being at risk of exploitation or gang affiliated, plus build positive relationships with the clients and their families.  You will produce risk management plans based on assessments, promoting inter-agency collaboration in the assessment and planning process, and deliver a holistic service to each client, providing practical help that will include social and housing support, engagement with education, training and employment options.

You will also be expected to work in collaboration with the wider CIRV team to access support and bring about change in the client group, and to work closely with the Evaluation team, while also providing practical advice to professionals who come into contact with your clients who are involved, suspected or at risk of being exploited through gangs.

What we are looking for

• Relevant direct or indirect experience of the criminal justice system
• Experience of engaging successfully with challenging people
• Proven track record of negotiating with partner agencies to establish links to further the aims of a project
• Experience of working to targets and recording information and statistics to enable effective monitoring of performance against targets
• Knowledge of the particular drivers and risks associated with gang involvement and youth violence across Coventry or Wolverhampton
• Excellent interpersonal, relationship-building and communication skills, verbal and written.

The role is a significant development in expanding access to expert and joined-up ataxia care for the ataxia community, particularly in regions currently underserved by neurologists with expertise in the ataxias. 

As a Specialist Ataxia Nurse, you will provide personalised, face-to-face, and remote support to patients, assisting them in navigating the NHS and social care systems. Your responsibilities will include supporting patients during medical appointments, coordinating essential therapies such as physiotherapy, speech therapy, and occupational therapy, and building strong relationships with healthcare professionals to enhance understanding and treatment of ataxia. Additionally, you will contribute to the development of resources and information for the ataxia community. 

We are looking for an experienced nurse with a background in neurology or chronic disease management and a strong commitment to patient advocacy. The ideal candidate will be a clear communicator, capable of working independently while collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
