The Hepatitis C Trust runs national projects where peers draw on their lived experience of drug use and hepatitis C to support others. We are now recruiting for a new and exciting role to join our growing Wales team. 

As part of an experienced team, working alongside local drug treatment systems (drug and alcohol services) this role will promote hepatitis C awareness, deliver blood borne virus testing and referral and support to hepatitis C treatment. 

The role will support volunteer peers and increase the project’s reach to underserved communities. You’ll be providing vital harm reduction interventions including needle, syringe and naloxone provision across Cwm Taf Morgannwg area.

About the Role

At The Connection Community, just off Trafalgar Square, we provide a safe and welcoming space where people can find respite from street homelessness, build social connections, and access vital support. Our multi-disciplinary team is dedicated to reducing the harms associated with rough sleeping, fostering inclusion, and empowering individuals to move towards stability and independent living.

As part of our creative and committed team, you’ll play a key role in:

• Building trusting relationships with people facing multiple exclusion.

• Understanding peoples’ needs and providing harm minimisation support.

• Helping individuals take steps towards securing a place to call home.

• Contributing to a pioneering new approach to homelessness support in Westminster.

We see relationships as the key tool for change. As a Community Practitioner you will build relationships of trust and solidarity that will help people to access our comprehensive professional support network, including NHS health services, DWP benefits advisors, migration specialists, and drug and alcohol support teams – all offering their services inside the Community.

Together we are piloting a psychologically-informed, trauma-responsive model with an embedded specialist NHS psychology team. This means you’ll receive high-quality training, 1:1 consultations, and reflective practice to enhance your skills, and to support you and your team to pioneer best practice in homelessness services.

Salary: £36,380

The ideal candidate

To be considered for this role, you should be able to:

• Navigating the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, working with people who have a higher complexity in substance use and need additional support from multiple services.
• To work in a trauma informed and person centred way, empowering the client to make informed choices around their care and support
• Conducting street outreach with partner agencies to identify and locate people on your caseloads, who are sleeping rough.
• Managing a caseload of clients
• Attending partner agency meetings relating to rough sleeping & hotspots in the borough.
• Providing targeted harm reduction advice and information to individuals around the risks associated with drug or alcohol use and supporting people to improve their health and wellbeing.
• Signposting individuals to other support services inclusive of substance use, based on individual need.
• Removing the stigma of homelessness and for those who use substances and/or alcohol
• Breaking the barriers of which people experiencing homelessness face, when trying to access needed services

About the Service

The London Survivors Collective is comprised of seven organisations (The four London Rape Crisis Centres, Galop, Survivors UK, and Respond) working together to provide comprehensive support to victim/survivors of sexual violence across London. Our alliance model enables us to draw on each member’s expertise and provide all victims/survivors with the specific care that is tailored to their needs.

Services are tailored for women, men, non-binary, LGBTQ+, disabled, neurodiverse victim/survivors addressing intersectional and unique needs.

Navigators provide the first response which supports survivors to make informed decisions about the next steps on their recovery journey. Navigators work within a trauma-informed approach, which centres survivor’s holistic needs, recognises strengths and survival strategies and responds to crisis.

About the Role

This is an exciting time to join the London Survivors Collective as a Navigator. You will act as first point of contact for survivors of sexual violence and the professionals supporting them, by providing holistic and non-judgemental information, advice and support.

You will support survivors to access additional specialist sexual violence services through trauma-informed triage and assessment.

You will be ensuring diversity and equity is at the centre of the service and service delivery, and that the service continues to be responsive to, and meet the needs of all survivors in a trauma-informed, anti-oppressive way.

About You

Successful applicants will have knowledge of sexual violence and its impact on victim/survivors. You will have strong time management and organisational skills, excellent collaborative working skills and knowledge of the rights for survivors of sexual violence. You will also be empathetic and work from a psychologically-informed framework. It is essential that you have experience of using Office Excel and the ability to use an online case management system. You will also have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

We Are Survivors provide survivor-focused therapeutic and advocacy support to male (including Trans and Non-binary) victims/survivors, and their loved ones, of sexual harms. We have developed a three-tiered approach to services and underpin everything we do with a ‘trauma and recovery’ framework pioneered by Dr Judith Herman.

We are currently commissioned to deliver trauma-informed therapy services in 15 prisons across the Northwest of England and we require postings in our prisons across Merseyside, Lancaster and Cheshire. Please note we have no vacancies in our Greater Manchester prisons.

You will be a qualified counsellor / psychotherapist who holds at least a Diploma in Counselling / Psychotherapy or equivalent and be registered with BACP or equivalent (preferably an accredited member). You will understand issues relating to trauma, be able to work as part of a team and feel confident working in a prison setting. You will hold a full driving licence, have access to a vehicle and be within a reasonable commute to estates.

You will be able to lead peer-mentoring support to trauma-informed therapists, deliver trauma-informed therapeutic services, lead accurate clinical record keeping of therapeutic service interventions, lead the supervision of therapeutic services waiting lists and undertake specific therapeutic projects as directed by the Executive Team.
