Lead Bid Writer

Length of contract: Permanent

Salary: up to: £32,000 plus contributory pension 4% - 5%

Responsible to: Business Development Director

Working with: All HACT teams and external stakeholders

Role description

The Bid Writer will produce professionally written content that clearly articulates our value proposition and delivers our ambitious business development strategy. Working with colleagues across HACT, this role requires an ability to work under pressure, to meet demanding deadlines and to deliver results. 

The subject matter of the bids you write will vary, ranging from customer feedback diagnostics and service evaluations to social value frameworks and stakeholder reviews.  You’ll need to be flexible, able to grasp a brief and associated subject matter quickly, and adept at being succinct.

HACT partners with organisations across the housing sector to drive value for residents and communities through insight-led products and services which encourage innovation and foster collaboration.

We help them measure their social value, better understand the communities they serve and connect with like-minded organisations.


Key responsibilities include:

  • Deliver completed written proposal responses against agreed deadlines, escalating issues as required
  • Create and deploy a quality assurance process for proposals
  • Create and maintain a bank of boiler plate descriptions of HACT and it’s products and services for use around the business
  • Maintain a central register of all tenders submitted and to monitor the progress of tenders
  • Lead storyboard sessions with bid / proposal team members and key stakeholders
  • Coach sales teams and subject matter experts in writing best practice
  • Proactively develop and manage a network of subject matter experts
  • Assist the SMEs in developing proposal structures
  • Identify and be the key contact for relevant tender and funding platforms
  • Proactively identify potential tender opportunities and funding bids in line with the business development strategy
  • Communicate and influence at a senior level
  • Ad hoc reporting and investigation as required

Person specification

Essential skills and experience

  • Experience of writing funding bids and tender fulfilment for different audiences
  • Strong time management / prioritisation skills
  • Strong written English language skills
  • Ability to manage multiple proposals
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Excellent proofreading and editorial
  • Adherence to brand tone of voice experience
  • Ability to work on your own and as part of a team
  • Excellent communication skills
