About the Italia Conti Trust
The Italia Conti Trust is dedicated to supporting exceptional students in the performing arts who lack the financial means to realise their potential.
Primarily, the Trust provides scholarships to exceptionally talented students who might otherwise be unable to pursue performing arts training. Additionally, the Hardship Fund assists students facing financial difficulties during their studies, enabling them to complete their training.
The Role
The Trust is seeking individuals passionate about the performing arts to join its charity board alongside like-minded professionals who believe a vibrant performing arts sector enriches culture and society.
New Trustees are invited to contribute their expertise and enthusiasm to help create opportunities for talented students from diverse backgrounds to thrive in specialist performing arts education and develop rewarding careers.
The Italia Conti Trust Board of Trustees holds responsibility for the strategic governance and oversight of the Trust and the delivery of its charitable mission. The Trust is currently seeking new Trustees, including a Chair, who will support the organisation in:

Encouraging the study of performing arts training for stage, cinema, and television, including production crafts and trades, through bursaries, scholarships, and prizes.

Supporting performing arts education via facilities, outreach, and artistic commissions.

Facilitating the raising of funds to promote access, excellence, and innovation in performing arts education.

Acting as ambassadors and advocates for specialist performing arts training and its cultural significance.
With a heritage spanning over 100 years, Italia Conti is a renowned name in showbusiness, having trained many celebrated performers from Noel Coward and Bonnie Langford to Martine McCutcheon, and contemporary Olivier Award-winning stars Sam Tutty and Layton Williams.
Currently the UK’s leading Higher Education institution for performing arts, Italia Conti operates from purpose-built premises in Woking and strives to make its award-winning training accessible to talented students from all backgrounds.

About the role:
Sophie Hayes Foundation aims to work in a proactive and collaborative manner. The Chair plays an important part in setting the tone and bringing all stakeholders together.
Governance and Culture:
As Chair, you provide appropriate leadership, oversight and support to the Board and management team on strategy, governance and risk, ensuring that we meet our obligations and responsibilities. The Trustee Board is made up of a diverse group of people, each bringing their own ideas, skills and networks to support the executive team. A new CEO joined the charity about 18 months ago. She has worked to build a strong team and achieved a great sense of community amongst staff, volunteers and programme participants. She worked closely with the Board in the development of a new strategy, is building strong relationships with donors and supporters, and continues to oversee the management of the day to day - with an eye on both long-term needs and immediate challenges.
Development:
We rely on support from foundations, key donors and the public, and as Chair, you will be an important representative of the organisation, working with the CEO and other Trustees to build and maintain strong relationships.
Advocacy:
Sophie Hayes Foundation is working to improve understanding of the Modern Slavery sector, enhance understanding of the issues, build recognition of the impact of our programmes and influence key decision makers. As Chair, along with other Trustees, you may be called on to assist the CEO with advocacy and to build our brand.
Commitment:
We have a bold vision to increase our impact through a combination of direct programming with survivors and through advocacy to build awareness and support. You will need to have the time to contribute to our growth strategy by chairing Board meetings, supporting Committee Chairs, Board officers, and our small but mighty management team, and represent Sophie Hayes Foundation to key stakeholders. Professionals Aid Guild (PAG) is seeking a new committee member to join a well-established charity on their Case Committee to assist in assessing applications and awarding grants. A background in social welfare would be desirable.
The successful candidate will;
- Attend committee meetings either in person or electronically.
- Assist in assessing applications and advising on awards.
- Determining what awards should be made.
- Be aware of UK social welfare system and use knowledge and skills to contribute effectively to group discussion.
- Ensure the budget for grant awards is used according to the charity rules and objectives.
We are particularly interested in hearing from anyone with a background in social welfare; however, a general interest in the relief of poverty is important. A successful applicant would be decisive, responsible, and passionate about delivering and developing the aims of the charity. Our committee members play a vital role in the work of the charity and the delivery of grants. The charity processes confidential information about our applicants and so an awareness of data protection regulation would also be useful.
As a committee member on the Case Committee you will make a difference to the relief of poverty for professionals throughout the UK.
Some case studies below demonstrate the real impact that the charity has on those who have been awarded a grant towards their studies;
Ms C was made redundant. She was then self-employed but has been unable to work due to ill health. Her daughter was struggling mentally and emotionally with conventional schooling, so she home schooled her. Home-schooling has dramatically improved her daughter’s wellbeing. She is passionate about learning, but a lack of study materials had hindered her. PAG assisted with children’s education grants and a one-off grant towards general living expenses.
Mrs C wrote “I was completely brought to tears. It has been very difficult for us these past couple of years and seeing your gift lifted a weight off our shoulders. Words cannot express our gratitude and appreciation. This could not have come at a better time. My daughter can now focus on her studies without worrying about the cost of it all. Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts. We have been truly blessed and are forever grateful.”.
Ms D is a single mother of a son at university. She left her family home due to domestic violence. She is a teacher but had been made redundant due to the recent pandemic. She became bankrupt and was struggling financially. She and her son suffer from long Covid and are currently unable to work. The funds helped her with a one-off grant.
Ms D wrote “It was such fantastic news to receive my award letter and I am so very grateful to you all. These gifts will make a huge difference to how things are financially and it’s such a relief to know I can stop panicking in the short term and know things are going to be alright.

Action for Refugees in Lewisham works to relieve poverty and isolation amongst refugees, asylum seekers and other vulnerable migrants in Lewisham. At the Rainbow Club supplementary school we aim to help children between the ages of 4 and 11 to improve their literacy, numeracy and social skills in a friendly and supportive environment. We need your skills and enthusiasm to assist the teacher in the delivery of a literacy and numeracy class and work with other volunteers to develop a programme of recreational activities. The Rainbow Club runs on Saturday mornings during term-time.
Your duties will include:
- Arriving punctually for the 9am briefing by the Rainbow Club Headteacher;
- Working in a team with other volunteers and teachers to deliver literacy, numeracy, arts, sport activities – this includes ensuring children remain engaged throughout the lesson and carry out set tasks as instructed by the teacher;
- Working one-to-one with specific children if and when required;
- Filing classroom work and homework in children’s individual files and keeping all materials and resources tidy and properly stored;
- Liaising with parents as and when required for example distributing leaflets and news about future meetings and events and also assisting with parents' day;
- Following the teacher’s policies on discipline and classroom management;
- Supervising the children during break times;
- Supporting the children during class trips;
- Ensuring classrooms are clean and tidy at the end of each day – this may include being part of a regular team rota;
- Providing feedback and comments to the Rainbow Club Headteacher when required.

Community Action for Refugees and Asylum Seekers (CARAS) is a registered charity that has been supporting refugees and asylum-seekers since 2002 empowering them to integrate and engage in the local community.
Arriving as an asylum seeker/refugee can be a disempowering experience. Difficulties with language, accessing services and overcoming prejudice are ever-present. As an organisation we are committed to work alongside refugees to overcome those challenges, and to help them build their lives.
We offer group support and targeted support work. We offer a range of activities including: ESOL classes; social and recreational activities such as youth club, drama, trips, and family activities; educational support for young people; and casework and advocacy support.

About Youth ESOL:
Our award-winning ESOL project offers English language classes to young people at a wide range of levels. This provides vital skills, opportunities and social contact and is crucial for enabling young people to do well at school or college.
About the Role:
- CARAS is looking for Reading Group Volunteer to support our face-to-face study programme for young people.
- The reading group is in Tooting and is an important element of a study programme for young people aged 14 to 18 who are out of formal education.
- Students will be supported to read at length and complete challenges that are adapted to their ability level.
- The reading group aims to foster independence and a joy of reading among the young people and requires volunteers to learn about the young peoples' interests in order to help them select an appropriate text.
- The ESOL teacher will provide volunteers with tips to support reading and understanding for emerging learners of English, such as phonics and elicitation strategies.
- Volunteers will work with 1-5 students, mostly reading out loud with them or helping them to decode unfamiliar language.
- Please note that ESOL classes do not run during school holidays, and we follow Wandsworth Council term dates.
Volunteer tasks and responsibilities:

Providing learners with one-to-one or small group support within the Reading Group sessions;

Helping to set up the classroom and provide learners with classroom resources;

Contributing to debriefs to inform the ESOL teacher how each student found the lesson/task and the students’ areas of greatest challenge and success;

Attending and contributing to volunteer debriefs after each session;

Making use of any community languages you may know to help students during the class;

Working collaboratively as a team and helping to shape the project;

Supporting people to develop their knowledge and skills, encouraging and inspiring participants to reach their full potential;

Amy’s Place is a partnership between the Amy Winehouse Foundation and Clarion Housing, providing supported living accommodation for young women aged 18-30 in recovery from drugs, alcohol and other addictive behaviors.
An enthusiastic, reliable and compassionate volunteer with good interpersonal skills and a desire to help others. The volunteer must be a fully qualified Dietitian or Nutritional Therapist and have training and/or experience working with individuals with eating disorders.
Activities
- Supporting the nutritional needs of young women with health issues on a limited budget.
- Providing support with meal planning, cooking skills, food safety, and day-to-day problem solving around food and eating.
- Providing wisdom and accurate nutrition education around healthy eating for the individual.
Qualifications/ Experience
- Must be a fully qualified Dietitian or Nutritional Therapist.
- As many of the residents have eating disorders it is essential for the volunteer to have training and/or clinical experience working with individuals with eating disorders.
- Must have professional liability insurance and be a member of a professional body ie. HCPC, BANT
- This role requires us to carry out a check through the Disclosure and Barring Service for the Enhanced DBS
Commitment
This is a flexible opportunity and volunteering times and frequency will vary depending on the volunteer’s availability and the needs of the residents. We recommend weekly one-to-one sessions for a minimum of 3 months.

Community Action for Refugees and Asylum Seekers (CARAS) is a registered charity that has been supporting refugees and asylum-seekers since 2002 empowering them to integrate and engage in the local community.
Arriving as an asylum seeker/refugee can be a disempowering experience. Difficulties with language, accessing services and overcoming prejudice are ever-present. As an organisation we are committed to work alongside refugees to overcome those challenges, and to help them build their lives.

About the CARAS ESOL Team:
Our award-winning ESOL project offers English language classes to adults at a wide range of levels. This provides vital skills, opportunities and social contact and is crucial for enabling people to attend college and access other services in the future.
About the Role:
CARAS is looking for volunteer ESOL Teaching Assistants to support our face-to-face adult ESOL classes in Tooting. Volunteers in this role are required to commit to at least one 2-hour session every Wednesday during these times:

Mondays ESOL 9:30 to 13:30

Tuesday 9:30 to 11:30
-
Tuesday One-to-one employability and language learning support 15:00 to 17:00
Please note that ESOL classes do not run during school holidays, and we follow Wandsworth Council term dates.
Volunteer tasks and responsibilities:

Providing learners with one-to-one or small group support within ESOL classes;

Helping to set up the classroom and provide learners with classroom resources;

Attending and contributing to volunteer debriefs after each session;

Making use of any community languages you may know to help students during the class;

Working collaboratively as a team and helping to shape the project;

Supporting people to develop their knowledge and skills, encouraging and inspiring participants to reach their full potential;

Assisting participants to recognise and celebrate their achievements;
