POSITION DESCRIPTION: Each Summer BECA hosts a 3-week, half-day, day-camp for students in elementary grades, to provide students with opportunities to remain immersed in the English language over the long break through fun games and activities – making the transition back to classes in August less difficult and preventing summer learning loss. Each year, we seek out a team of 6-8 Volunteer Summer Camp Counselors to work with approximately 75-100 students across multiple grade levels, with about 15-20 students per classroom.
In addition to supporting students, Summer Camp Counselors will also: conduct 1-2 home visits per week with the Summer Camp Director, commit to a service project on the school grounds, as well as host team dinners on a weekly basis.
REQUIRED DUTIES:

Work collaboratively to plan activities across disciplines including art, reading and writing, and physical education

Because the Summer Camp is a supplemental program, BECA recoups the program’s expenses through donations paid by Summer Camp Counselors who wish to participate. In exchange for this experience, we ask that you contribute or fundraise $1,500 for the BECA program to help defray costs (food, accommodation, training, materials, and a high-speed internet connection). A reduced contribution may be available for applicants with demonstrated need.
For current college students, please note that volunteers in the past have successfully applied for on-campus grant monies to cover this expense and travel. Job Title: EPAfrica Summer Team – Project Manager (PM)
Location: Kakamega, Kenya
Duration: Approximately 1st July – 13th September 2025, with limited flexibility on start and finish dates.
Start Date: UK-based training and preparation begins in June, with travel to Kenya for final pre-summer preparation in late June.
Compensation: Non-salaried placement, with the following expenses covered:

About EPAfrica
EPAfrica (Education Partnerships Africa) is a volunteer-run charity that works in partnership with rural secondary schools in East Africa. We focus on sustainable improvements in education by investing in infrastructure, resources, and people. Our volunteers play a crucial role in delivering meaningful, long-term impact through grassroots engagement and collaborative problem-solving.
Role Overview
As a Project Manager (PM), you'll be part of EPAfrica’s Summer Team, which is our in-country leadership group responsible for overseeing and supporting Project Workers (PWs) to deliver meaningful programmes of investment in Kenyan schools. You’ll take on a leadership role that blends operational oversight, pastoral care, and high-level decision-making to ensure the success and safety of our summer projects. This is a unique opportunity to develop leadership skills, contribute meaningfully to international development, and support passionate volunteers in-country.
Key Responsibilities

Direct managerial responsibility for our volunteers in-country, including our Project Workers (PWs) and a “Summer Team” of coordinators.

Lead and support a cohort of PWs throughout their placements in partner schools, including:

With the support of coordinators, deliver trainings on topics such as project management, effective international development practices, safety and wellbeing, and cultural awareness

Provide pastoral support and act as the first point of contact for volunteers in-country

Oversee project progress, support PWs in addressing challenges, and ensure investment projects stay aligned with EPAfrica’s mission and theory of change

Implement our in-country monitoring and evaluation programme, enabling us to effectively plan for and deliver future investments. This includes:

Monitoring visits to current & recent investment schools to gauge impact of EPAfrica’s work

Assessment visits to potential future EPAfrica participant schools

Staying up-to-date research into developments in the Kenyan education system and potential impacts on our work

Maintaining relationships with our network of local partners.

Managing risk and implementing an emergency response to crises.

What We’re Looking For

A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen to become a Trustee at The Goldfinch Trust, a newly-forming Multi-Academy Trust in South London with a distinctive and vital mission: to deliver exceptional education for some of the country’s most vulnerable and medically complex children and young people.
Initially comprising two sites and formally launching in September 2025, new Trustees are sought to help ensure strong and robust governance structures, helping to shape future growth and planning. The Trust will have an annual budget of £3m, expected to rise with expansion of the organisation.
About The Goldfinch Trust
The Goldfinch Trust is a new Multi-Academy Trust with a distinctive and vital mission: to deliver exceptional education for some of the country’s most vulnerable and medically complex children and young people. The Trust will formally launch in September 2025, initially comprising two highly specialist settings: Maudsley & Bethlem Hospital School (MBHS) and St Peter’s Centre, with strong collaboration already in place with a third school, Kings College Hospital School (KCHS), which is expected to join formally in due course.
MBHS supports children aged 4–19, predominantly of secondary age, many of whom are hospital in-patients receiving treatment for severe psychiatric conditions. The school’s model is designed for short- to medium-term placements, with a key goal of reintegration into mainstream or alternative education once pupils are well enough to transition. The school currently supports up to 64 pupils, with a truly national intake reflecting the specialist nature of its provision.
St Peter’s Centre provides a more community-based education offer, supporting around 32 pupils with complex social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs, including autism, anxiety, depression, and school-based trauma. The school supports KS1–4, although current placements are all in the secondary phase. A flexible, part-time attendance model allows the centre to double its reach and offer individualised support.
Kings College Hospital School (KCHS), working under a service-level agreement with MBHS, delivers bedside and on-site education for children with serious medical needs, including cancer and other life-limiting conditions. While not yet a formal Trust member, KCHS is fully aligned with the Trust’s mission and is expected to transfer formally following due diligence.
The Trust’s strategic direction is rooted in partnership with the NHS and regional local authorities, offering a model of educational support that could influence national best practice. The Trust will also relocate MBHS into a purpose-built setting at the hospital’s new development in 2026, offering state-of-the-art facilities designed in collaboration with school leaders. While future expansion is not mapped, the Trust has hosted visits from other hospital and special schools exploring academisation, and organic growth is a realistic possibility over the next few years. A formal growth strategy is yet to be defined, providing incoming Trustees with a unique opportunity to shape the Trust’s long-term development.
The new Board of Trustees will replace the current interim shadow board and will initially comprise seven non-executive directors, with scope to grow to 11 as needed. Local governance arrangements will remain in place at the school level, helping to ensure that Trustee responsibilities are strategically focused.
The Trust will open with an annual income of approximately £3 million, rising with expansion, and enters its incorporation phase with comfortable reserves and prudent financial oversight. The CEO-designate (currently Headteacher at MBHS) is a respected leader in the sector, advising the DfE on hospital school operations and funding, and will work closely with the new board to shape the Trust’s systems, culture, and impact.
The Trust’s Requirements
The Goldfinch Trust seeks dedicated and skilled Trustees to form its inaugural Board. This is a rare opportunity to help establish a new Trust from the ground up – setting its vision, guiding strategy, and developing systems to support the education of children and young people with serious medical and mental health conditions. While the Board will be supported by a team with expertise in finance, law, and HR, the Trust is particularly keen to hear from candidates with executive leadership experience in areas such as education, healthcare commissioning or procurement, charity governance, or growing organisations. Skills and backgrounds of interest include: strategic leadership in education, strategic growth, Healthcare commissioning or procurement, Safeguarding, SEND, Estates management/Health & Safety, Digital strategy Finance, and Audit.
Trustees will play a vital role in supporting and challenging the executive leadership team, ensuring high-quality provision and the effective use of public funds. A deep commitment to the Trust’s mission, supporting some of the country’s most vulnerable learners, is essential.
The full Trust Board will meet once per term (three times a year). In addition, Trustees will join one of two committees: Finance or Education Provision, which will also meet termly (three times a year).
There are plans for an annual strategy conference, likely to run over an extended half-day or full day. Meetings are expected to be scheduled in the early evening (5:pm–6.30pm starts) and last up to two hours. The precise meeting calendar is yet to be confirmed, but Trustees should expect a blend of face-to-face, online, and hybrid meetings. Some physical attendance will be required, so candidates should live within a reasonable commute of Beckenham (BR3 3BX) or Camberwell (SE5 8AB).
Trustees will be supported by a professional governance team, including external consultants currently advising on the Trust’s establishment. This is a unique opportunity to shape a new Trust that will provide life-changing support for young people with critical medical and psychiatric needs. The Chair of the Board of Trustees will be required to commit to 2 to 4 days each month, including attendance at quarterly Board meetings and an annual general meeting. The Chair may also be required to attend sub-committee meetings and other meetings or away-days as deemed necessary.

Sense College Loughborough is a specialist Further Education (FE) college, supporting students between 16-25, who have a wide range of disabilities. We aim to prepare young people to be as independent as possible and help them to achieve their long term goals. We offer different pathways and work with Loughborough College, to help students gain the skills, experience, knowledge and confidence to achieve these goals.
Candidates interested in the role of Lay Governor at college must be able to demonstrate commitment to Safeguarding, Strategic leadership and a passion to Further Education particularly Specialist Education. A understanding of issues facing the post 16 specialist education sector would be desirable. If you feel you have the ability to make a positive contribution to meetings and provide constructive challenge to support senior managers at the college we would love to hear from you. We anticipate that the successful candidates will need to commit a minimum of 4 half days per term to the role in relation to meetings and preparation. The ability to attend other ad-hoc college events and visits would also be very welcomed.
The role of members of the Governing Body is to provide strategic leadership, support and constructive challenge to the college senior management team to ensure that Sense College provides an excellent education experience for all students. The Governors will work with the college senior management to ensure the college offers a broad based curriculum to maximise the teaching and learning experiences of all its students, with demonstrable outcomes. Sense College Loughborough Lay Governors will attend 3 full committee meetings a year, plus 3 extra meetings for their chosen sub-committee. Meetings last from 90 minutes for sub-committees and 2 hours 30 minutes for the full committee, Lay Governors will come prepared and engaged, having done the reading the prior and ready to ask any questions they may have. Governors of Sense College have a varied role encompassing a range of duties. Much of this is undertaken through participation in the full Governing Body meetings and Sense College sub-committees according to a governor`s experience and skillset, and through college visits.
Some examples of governor duties are below, noting that these are not exclusive:
- Reviewing, approving and monitoring the implementation of the Sense College 2022-2025 Strategic Plan
- Approving the final Sense College Annual Self-Assessment Report (SAR)
- Reviewing and monitoring progress and outcomes from the Sense College Quality Improvement Plan (QuIP)

The Trust's Requirements
SHARE Multi Academy Trust is recruiting three new volunteers to the position of trustee - or non-executive director - and Member, a role akin to that of a shareholder.
Ideal candidates will have a qualification in accountancy, experience in finance, audit and/or risk as well as strategic senior leadership experience. Ideally, this volunteer will assume a role as Chair the Finance and Audit & Risk Committees. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership and committee management skills, experience in financial oversight and audit/risk management.
The second trustee volunteer will be able to demonstrate experience as a senior leader in Education, preferably in a Multi Academy Trust setting. An in-depth understanding of SEND across different phases would be highly advantaegous, while good local knowledge and links would be desirable but not essential for both roles.
For the role of Member, prior experience in a non-executive/trustee position and a firm understanding of corporate or charity governance is essential. The time commitment for this position is generally much lower, with ~two meetings per year.
For all roles, experience in managing or advising similar-sized organisations (in terms of revenue) and/or a strategic understanding of education is required.
The trust is open to considering remote or virtual participation for the education trustee. The trust is committed to promoting diversity and inclusion, including age diversity, and is willing to offer mentorship from another trustee where applicable and relevant.
Meetings and Governance Structure
The trust's mission is to help disadvantaged students achieve academic success and personal growth. The Board is led by an experienced CEO, who also serves as Accounting Officer. A small central team supports school improvement, HR, operations, and finance. The board consists of three members and nine directors (including the CEO). In 2024, three new trustees joined, bringing expertise in business and HR. The Chair has been with the board for four years, including two as Chair.
The board is strengthening connections with local governing bodies through committees and link roles. A dedicated governance professional ensures compliance and thorough induction for new trustees. Trustees have access to additional training via online platforms like NGA and the National College. Annual skills audits are conducted and reviewed. The Trust Board meets six times per year, with additional meetings as necessary, and operates with committees for financial scrutiny, audit, and risk. The trust will soon exceed £50 million in annual revenue, prompting the separation of audit, risk, and finance into distinct committees. Current committees include Finance, Audit & Risk, Safeguarding, and Remuneration, with new committees under consideration: People, Pupil, and Standards. The Trust Board is evaluating communication between local governing bodies and the Trust Board, with plans for reduced board meetings once committees are established.
About the trust
Share Multi-Academy Trust formed in September 2011, initially as a Single Academy Trust (SAT) with Shelley College, which earned an 'Outstanding' judgment in May 2013. In March 2014, Shelley College became a National Teaching School, and a Teaching School Alliance was established. Over the next two years, the trust expanded to include primary schools such as Heaton Avenue Primary, Millbridge Junior, Infant and Nursery, and Woodside Green (formerly Cowersley Primary). In November 2018, Royds Hall Community Academy, including secondary and primary sites, joined the trust, followed by Thornhill Community Academy. In February 2022, Whitcliffe Mount Secondary School also joined. By Spring 2025, a secondary school in North Yorkshire will join, expanding the trust’s reach to 4 primary academies, 4 secondary academies (including one with a sixth form), and one more secondary school. Ofsted outcomes are generally good, with one school rated as Requires Improvement.
The trust excels in supporting disadvantaged students and those with special educational needs (SEND), operating a specialized SEND resource base. It also runs a Teaching School Hub and contributes to local and national networks. The CEO is an active contributor to industry discussions, including DfE roundtables. Growth is considered only when new schools align with the trust's core values of overcoming disadvantage and achieving outstanding pupil outcomes. The trust has a well-developed people strategy, including executive and board succession planning.
The trust maintains strong financial controls, with a CFO in place since 2022. They follow a GAG (General Annual Grant) pooling model, covering various services like school improvement, HR, finance, payroll, legal, and ICT strategy, without hidden service charges. Academy budgets are submitted for Trust Board approval by early July each year, with indicative budgets required by April. Academy Improvement Plans and financial plans must be submitted to the CEO by October.
The trust has a Reserves Policy that is reviewed annually, maintaining reserves of 10% to 18% of recurring revenue income. Individual academies may adjust their reserves within policy limits with CEO and CFO approval. Financial reserves are in line with DfE expectations.

Do you have fundraising, communications, HR, IT or other skills and wish to become a trustee of a pioneering and ambitious charity which funds and develops girls’ education in South Sudan? Friends of Ibba Girls School (FIGS) works to support a girls’ boarding school which provides free high-quality education for over 300 primary and secondary school girls, providing both education and a source of inspiration for the country. Boarding provides safety and security for girls in a country emerging from war. FIGS works closely with Windle Trust International, a highly experienced UK charity which provides the practical support on the ground in South Sudan. FIGS must raise £400-500k each year to keep the school thriving, while longer-term plans are put in place for greater self-sufficiency within the country. The trustees are both strategic and operational, as the charity only has 2 employees (1.5 FTE). Fundraising skills and experience are particularly sought and the trustee will need to be prepared to give about eight hours a week to the work. Communications is also important and needs about four hours a week. HR and IT are both valuable skills but do not have particular time requirements. Applicants with other skills and experience relevant to FIGS are welcome to apply.

Teach First Board of Trustees
Chaired by Dame Vivian Hunt, our Board of Trustees is responsible for the governance of Teach First, ensuring it is run in accordance with our Charity Articles and the law. Our Trustees are all non-executives, who volunteer their time to support our work.
Trustees meet regularly as the Board of Trustees to focus on strategy, performance and assurance and to make decisions in relation to:

the long-term strategic direction of the Charity, ensuring delivery of its objectives and ongoing public benefit
-
the Charity’s financial and other resources, ensuring these are adequate, managed appropriately and that the Charity remains solvent
-
implementing policies, controls and activities which will support the Charity’s objectives; and
-
compliance with relevant laws and regulation.
Trustee role description
The Board of Trustees is looking to appoint a Trustee with:
-
Strategic understanding of the education policy landscape and the research and evidence base needed to drive education system change, with the ability to influence and activate decision-makers.

Influence and experience in building networks to deliver and scale impact across the sector.
-
A commitment to, and experience working towards, Teach First’s charitable mission to end educational inequality.
This Trustee would be expected to:
-
attend and participate in regular Board of Trustees meetings (usually four per year, plus an extended meeting to focus on strategy at the beginning of each academic year)
-
attend and participate in meetings of the Education Committee (usually four per year), a formal sub-committee of the Board of Trustees, which advises the Board on Teach First’s education strategy and provides assurance to the Board on the quality and impact of the Charity’s educational activities
-
provide strategic advice and support to members of the senior management team in a non-Executive capacity
-
participate in the recruitment of Executive roles, when necessary, and provide support in hearing appeals from trainees
-
declare any interests (financial or otherwise) which give rise to an actual or perceived conflict with the business of the Board.
Board meetings are held in person, either at Teach First’s London office or in a school setting. Sub-committee meetings usually take place online.
The time commitment for this non-remunerated role is approximately one day per month, including preparation for meetings.
In addition to attendance at formal Board and sub-committee meetings, there are opportunities for Trustees to be involved in the day-to-day work of the Charity in support of its objectives e.g. fundraising activity, meeting with supporters, attending events, joining working groups looking at new areas of strategic activity or acting as mentors to senior employees.
Appointments to the Board of Trustees shall be for a period of three years, renewable up to a maximum of nine years served. Most Trustees will serve two three-year terms.
Our governance structure
The Board has three permanent sub-committees, each providing oversight of, and advice on, a defined area of the Charity’s work. Sub-committee membership comprises Trustees, Teach First Ambassadors (alumni of its programmes), and, in some cases, external members, who are co-opted on the basis of their expertise in a particular field.
The Board has an Education Committee, a Finance, Risk and Audit Committee (FRAC), and a Nominations Committee. Nominations Committee is responsible for the composition of the Board and its sub-committees.

Professionals Aid Guild (PAG) is seeking a new Trustee to join a well-established charity based in London to assist with ongoing and future strategic development. A background in Education or Social Welfare would be desirable.
Using your experience, skills and knowledge, as Trustee you will be;
- Contributing actively to the Board of Trustees' role in giving firm strategic direction to the organisation,
- Setting overall policy, defining goals and setting targets and evaluating performance against agreed targets.
- Ensuring the effective and efficient administration of the organisation.
- Ensuring the financial stability of the organisation.
- Protecting and managing the property of the organisation and ensuring the proper investment of the organisation's funds.
- Ensuring that the charity has a clear vision, mission and strategic direction and is focused on achieving these.
- Being responsible for the performance of the charity and for its “corporate” behaviour; ensuring that the charity complies with all legal and regulatory requirements.
- Acting as guardians of the charity’s assets, both tangible and intangible, taking all due care over their security, deployment and proper application.
- Ensuring that the charity’s governance is of the highest possible standard.
We are particularly interested in hearing from anyone with a background in IT, Education or Welfare; however a general interest in the relief of poverty is important. A successful applicant would be decisive, responsible, good at networking and passionate about delivering and developing the aims of the charity. Our Trustees play a vital role in the work of the charity and have a high degree of responsibility. The charity processes confidential information about our applicants and so an awareness of data protection regulation would be useful.
As a Trustee for PAG you will make a difference to professionals throughout UK. Examples of our beneficiaries could include a family struggling to afford school uniforms for their children, a cancer sufferer who has had to give up work and is struggling to manage financially, a medical student whose funding has failed, or a single parent who has moved to a new home and needs assistance with the cost of furniture – these are all areas in which PAG has assisted and continues to assist.
Some case studies below demonstrate the real impact that the charity has;
- Mrs B accumulated large debts when she lost her job and was unable to obtain further loan or credit. She was awarded a one-off gift of £500 towards travel for the final year of her MSc/Diploma from PAG’s Education Committee. Mrs B wrote “I am lost for words to express my gratitude for the received cheque. I would like to say thank you for helping me to every person involved. It will truly make a big difference to my life.”
- Ms E left the family home due to domestic violence and subsequently divorced, she has one son, who is in employment and who contributes to the household income, and one daughter, who is at school. Mrs E is not currently employed; she has completed a Diploma and hopes to find paid employment soon. She was awarded a grant by the Case Committee and a further award for her daughter’s education from the Education Committee. Ms E wrote “I just wanted to thank you all for helping my family and I. I truly feel grateful and supported by PAG. I really don’t know how I would have coped over the years with so many different events that have happened to in my life. Thank you once again.”
The Professionals Aid Guild (PAG) works towards the relief of poverty and access to education for professional graduates and their families.
This is an exciting time to be joining UoGSU as we are implementing our new strategy. As an organisation we have been focused on communities, change and the education of our members.
We are looking for a trustee with experience and expertise in finance – this trustee will sit on our Audit and Risk committee. You will be a qualified accountant with experience of financial management, governance and oversight and an understanding of financial audit best practice. Previous experience of Audit and Risk committee work is of interest but not essential.
The individual appointed as trustee will need to be sympathetic to the aims of the SU and more generally share a commitment to the broader values of the student movement; student representation, student rights and the student experience – and the importance of students having a platform to organize together to help make these values a reality.
The role requires a careful balance; trustees need to respect the democratic will of the membership where possible but also be willing to think creatively, challenge constructively and point out potential risk. The Board is comprised of External Trustees, Officer Trustees and Student Trustees and oversees the work of a team of permanent staff a led by the Chief Executive.
An eye for detail to ensure the SU is being well governed and the ability to see future opportunities are also important.
The role is to serve on the board of trustees. Each term lasts 3 years and trustees can serve a maximum of 2 consecutive terms. Extensions are dependent on re-election to the board.
General candidate requirements:
All candidates will need to be comfortable reading and understanding financial information (or be willing to learn more about this aspect of the role). They should also have the following:
- An understanding of business management.
- A willingness and ability to devote the necessary time and effort to attend board andother meetings, including preparing and reading for those meetings.
- A willingness to speak their mind and contribute.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Analytical ability and good independent judgement.
- An understanding and acceptance of the role of a Charity’s Board of Trustees (including the legal duties, responsibilities, and liabilities of Trusteeship).
- A commitment to act in accordance with the Nolan principles for ethical conduct in public service and the SU own values.
Desirable but not essential:
-Recent experience of the higher education sector or of Students’ Unions.
-Experience or knowledge of board governance.
Commitment required
Board Meetings: There are 5 scheduled hybrid meetings each year, usually held early evening and lasting 2 to 2.5 hours, with extra meetings added if required (although this is rare). Each meeting will have associated reading and preparation work. Meetings are usually conducted face-to-face, but trustees may participate remotely depending on their schedule and other commitments.
Sub-committees: All trustees sit on a remote board sub-committee – the Audit & Risk or People Committee. These committees usually meet up to 4 times each year and are scheduled to fit trustee availability.
Board members will also need to be available to approve decisions electronically between meetings if required.
If feasible, Board members are also encouraged to visit the SU and observe major events such as Welcome.

Goldsmiths Students’ Union is a charity representing over 10,000 students studying at Goldsmiths, University of London, on issues that matter to them. We are student-led, with hundreds of volunteers, dozens of part-time elected officers, and four Sabbatical Officers - students who have been elected by their peers to take a year out of their studies to lead us from the front.
We are a democratic organisation, with a Student Assembly and established trustee board. The Trustee Board delegates responsibility for the day to day management of the organisation to the Chief Executive. The Chief Executive serves the Trustee Board and is responsible for developing and implementing the strategic plan for the management of all staff and resources. The Students’ Union staff team is made up of over 120 permanent and casual employees who work full-time and part-time.
