Job description

Why we need you

Are you an good listener who is empathetic and enjoys being part of a close knit and supportive team? If you have experience in counselling or careers either through lived experience or through employment or a volunteer role then this would be great but what is most important is your personal qualities.

You could be just the individual we are looking for to join us as we carry out our ambitious plans to develop our online group work programme. The programmes have been written and much of the preparation is complete but the Social Care Practitioner team lack the capacity to run as many groups as the organisation and our service users need so your contribution will be valuable and have a real impact on those we support.

We're here to make sure children and young people with cancer get the right support at the right time. We do this through tailored psychosocial support and by making their voices and unique needs heard and understood. We believe they should have the same opportunities as everyone else.

The team would like one or two volunteers to support delivery of the groupwork. This will involve one 3-hour session per volunteer per week on an ongoing basis to attend and support groupwork sessions as they happen.

We will provide a comprehensive induction and training and you will have the support of a dedicated volunteer manager.

What you’ll be doing

You will carry out your role in close collaboration with our Social Care Practitioners to support delivery of online groupwork.

This will include:

· Attend groupwork sessions, including short brief beforehand and debrief afterwards.

· Support administration during the group, noting down attendees, staffing the chat box so the presenter is kept abreast of questions and communications coming in via chat.

· Working to risk assessment keep an eye on participants and direct message any that drop out during group to check in on welfare and let them know facilitator will be in touch after group.

· Facilitating peer support in smaller groups and ensuring feedback to facilitator.

About you

· You’ll be available in evenings

· You’ll be confident using teams, zoom and outlook including facilitating a breakout room, and feeding back when necessary
