Shannon Trust fulfils an unmet need around adult learning, supporting people who’ve fallen through the cracks in formal education.

We know a lot of people have had negative learning experiences in the past, so our programme is designed to be different, with no exams and no classrooms. Our unique, evidence-based Turning Pages reading manuals are used by thousands of learners in prisons and the community to improve reading skills. 

Prison volunteers live near to their local prison so that they can visit about once a month during the working week to nurture the growth of the Shannon Trust in their prison. They help unlock the power of reading by offering advice, guidance, training and support to prison staff and prisoner mentors who help other prisoners to improve their skills 1 to 1.

We are looking for volunteers who are able to work alone, able to give a regular, reliable commitment for ideally two years and able to deliver engaging training to groups of people in prisons.  Due to the nature of the role, prison security vetting will be required.

We provide training for the role via e-learning and 4 training sessions which are a mix of live, online and group training.

Do you love quizzes, entertaining people and raising money for animals? We’re looking for volunteers to run our regular pub quizzes and keep the fun going.

Quizzes are held at:

• The Barn Owl, Quedgeley – 6pm on the last Sunday of the month
• The Old Crown Inn, Uley – 7pm on the fourth Wednesday of the month

What you’ll be doing: Choose from two volunteer roles at each quiz:

1. Host – Read out the questions, keep scores, announce winners and keep things lively.
2. Welcome Lead – Sign in teams, sell raffle tickets and help answer any queries.

We’ll keep you up to date with upcoming local events where volunteers are needed. You’ll then be able to choose which events you’d like to volunteer at and how many hours you’d like to give. However much time you can give, your contribution will help raise much needed funds to continue the work of Cats Protection.

As an Administrative Support Volunteer, you will play an essential role in the team, complimenting the work of the Manchester Hub and allowing Shelter clients to receive the support that they need. The opportunity will allow you to make a difference in your local community as well as gaining hands-on experience in one of the UK's leading housing charities. 

Suggested Involvement: e.g. A suggested minimum commitment of one day per week for six months

Main tasks 

• General administrative tasks (photocopying, scanning, and minute taking) 

• Covering reception and meeting and greeting people who are dropping into the office on an ad hoc basis 

• Updating local resource documents, such as local authority information sheets

• Inputting information on to our case management system

Skills and experience required 

• Previous administrative experience or an interest in gaining administrative skills 

• An interest in social welfare e.g. housing, welfare benefits, debt. 

• Ability to manage your own time and task load 

• Confident and professional telephone manner 

• Good communication skills (this may be through experience of working with the public). 

• Confident IT skills including Microsoft Office programmes. 

• The ability to work as part of a team and value others

Clarion Housing Group operate a number of supported housing schemes, to support people to live independently, by providing residents with the life skills they will need to eventually go on to their own tenancy.

This opportunity is based in Strood, Rochester and Gillingham (Medway).

Volunteers empower our customers to identify their existing strengths and skills so they can achieve their goals and aspirations. As a volunteer, you can support customers to achieve their full potential by developing new skills and accessing opportunities.

Activities:
-Building an empathic and person-centred relationship with a young person who may be socially isolated or lack confidence.
-Provide opportunities for young people to become more self-confident, maintain contact with important people in their lives and build-up their social networks.

Practical activities could also include:
-Empowering young people to develop independent living skills and to access educational and employment opportunities
-Helping the young people to complete forms and paperwork including developing their CV and job applications
-Helping the young people to build important life skills e.g. cooking, cleaning and budgeting
-Organising activities within the schemes i.e. art/painting, games/quizzes, cooking

Support for Volunteers:

- To attend four half days of training, receive an induction and have access to any other relevant in house and external training

- Reasonable travel expenses will be reimbursed

- Volunteers will have a check in with the Volunteering Officer every 3 months to ensure they are happy with the role and to resolve any issues

Are you interested in volunteering in a role supported, supervised and guided by experienced Integration Casework Coordinators to provide telephone and/or face to face advice about welfare and housing rights and pathways to refugee clients, including assistance with filling forms, liaising with government agencies and council offices, drafting letters, among other assistance to newly granted refugees?

Would a varied role where you could help clients by researching housing options updating client information on our casework database and much more throughout your volunteering enhance your skills and experiences to achieve your goals whilst making a difference?

Would you like to be a part of a busy team, working with experience Integration Casework Coordinators to provide much needed support to their caseload of clients?

Are you able to commit to at least 1 day (10:00 – 17:00) per week on either Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays consistently, ideally for a minimum of 6 months in this role?

If yes, then this could be the perfect voluntary role for you within the Refugee Council.

You will be a part of our friendly and supportive London Integration & Housing Pathways team and will receive regular support and supervision from Integration Casework Coordinators. As part of a comprehensive induction process, you will receive training on working with refugees and people seeking asylum, including an introduction to the asylum process and the legal framework, rights and entitlements, and on how to support people practically whilst volunteering as a Refugee Integration & Housing Pathways Volunteer. If you are successful in this role, you must be available to attend the below in person training sessions.

• Tuesday 2nd September - 

  AM - Induction & Working with refugees – move on period

  PM - Working with refugees – confidentiality, boundaries, working with interpreters

• Wednesday 10th September - 

  AM - Housing pathways training – to include homelessness law and housing pathway options

  PM - Universal Credit & other benefits options

• Tuesday 16th September - 

  AM - Practical systems training

  PM - Client database training

Purpose of the Role

As a Volunteer Receptionist, you will be the welcoming face of Citizens Advice Sefton, helping clients access our services efficiently and ensuring the smooth running of reception duties during advice sessions.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

• Greet all clients professionally and with compassion, creating a welcoming and inclusive environment.

• Monitor client arrivals and check in clients with appointments using our Casebook system.

• Review and update client details using registration sheets or by creating new client records.

• Ensure client registration sheets are available by printing copies from the intranet.

• Scan and return documents handed in by clients and upload them to the correct case record with a note to the adviser.

• Support advisers and supervisors by completing administrative and practical tasks during advice sessions.

• Follow all data protection, safeguarding, and confidentiality procedures.

• Be aware of and follow health and safety protocols including fire evacuation procedures and personal safety guidance.

Skills and Qualities Needed
