Urban Youth is a brand-new youth work charity being set up to build a vibrant community for young people across London. What will you do as a Trustee?

As a Trustee, you'll play a vital role in the legal and strategic oversight of Urban Youth.

• Charity Registration: Guiding Urban Youth through the application process to register with the Charity Commission, ensuring we meet all regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

● Research suitable grant-making trusts and foundations, with a particular focus on those funding mental health, faith-based initiatives, and/or community wellbeing.

● Draft high-quality, tailored funding applications that reflect the heart, outcomes, and impact of Mercy UK’s work.

About the CARAS ESOL Team:

Our award-winning ESOL project offers English language classes to adults at a wide range of levels. This provides vital skills, opportunities and social contact and is crucial for enabling people to attend college and access other services in the future.

About the Role:

CARAS is looking for volunteer ESOL Teaching Assistants to support our face-to-face adult ESOL classes in Tooting. Volunteers in this role are required to commit to at least one 2-hour session every Wednesday during these times: 

• Mondays ESOL 9:30 to 13:30

• Tuesday 9:30 to 11:30

• Tuesday One-to-one employability and language learning support 15:00 to 17:00 

Please note that ESOL classes do not run during school holidays, and we follow Wandsworth Council term dates.

Volunteer tasks and responsibilities:

• Providing learners with one-to-one or small group support within ESOL classes; 

• Helping to set up the classroom and provide learners with classroom resources;

• Attending and contributing to volunteer debriefs after each session; 

• Making use of any community languages you may know to help students during the class; 

• Working collaboratively as a team and helping to shape the project;

Stepping Stones is a small, friendly charity in Southwark providing inclusive activities for adults with learning disabilities. We believe everyone should have the chance to express themselves, connect with others, and take part in activities that bring joy, confidence, and new skills.

About the Role: 

• CARAS is looking for Reading Group Volunteer to support our face-to-face study programme for young people.
• The reading group is in Tooting and is an important element of a study programme for young people aged 14 to 18 who are out of formal education.
• Students will be supported to read at length and complete challenges that are adapted to their ability level.
• The reading group aims to foster independence and a joy of reading among the young people and requires volunteers to learn about the young peoples' interests in order to help them select an appropriate text.
• The ESOL teacher will provide volunteers with tips to support reading and understanding for emerging learners of English, such as phonics and elicitation strategies.
• Volunteers will work with 1-5 students, mostly reading out loud with them or helping them to decode unfamiliar language.
• Please note that ESOL classes do not run during school holidays, and we follow Wandsworth Council term dates.

Your Role as Project Management / Operations Lead

In this vital set-up phase, you will be instrumental in:

• Coordinating Charity Registration: Assisting the Board with the Charity Commission registration process, ensuring all documentation is prepared and submitted accurately.

• Developing Operational Frameworks: Helping to establish key internal processes, systems, and administrative procedures for the charity.

• Policy & Compliance Support: Working with Trustees to develop and implement essential policies, including safeguarding, data protection (GDPR), and volunteer management.

• Resource Management: Assisting with initial resource identification, such as potential office space, IT needs, and necessary supplies.

• Project Planning & Tracking: Creating and managing project plans for various set-up tasks, ensuring deadlines are met and progress is tracked effectively.

• Stakeholder Coordination: Facilitating communication and collaboration between different volunteer teams and advisors.

• Run six mentoring sessions online

• Offer advice and insights related to applying to universities and further education institutions.

What will you be doing?

The Treasurer, in addition to their Trustee duties, is responsible for overseeing Kingston Association for the Blind’s financial affairs. 

The Treasurer will work with the CEO to ensure that effective financial measures, controls, and procedures are in place to manage the charity’s finances. They report to the Board on the organisation’s financial health, financial performance, and any potential risks.

Time Commitment:

· Quarterly Board meetings held in person in central Kingston.

· AGM is held once a year.

· Board members are encouraged and welcome to join charity events and trips.

What are we looking for?

· A finance professional with an understanding of charity finance or commercial experience.

· Strong communication skills, capable of presenting financial information to non-finance experts.

· Someone willing to contribute to forecasting, budgeting, and liaising with auditors.
