Green Allotments is a new charity. Our mission is to create new, not-for-profit, private allotment sites at an affordable rent. Allotments provide an opportunity for individuals and communities to grow their own food, engage with nature, and socialise in a safe and welcoming environment. However, demand for allotments has been high for 20 years, with little to no movement from councils to provide new allotments for the 100K people on allotment waiting lists. We want to change this story for the better, by buying land and creating new allotment sites.
Our charity is in the final stages of purchasing land to create the first Green Allotments site. This is located in green belt on the edge of Morpeth, Northumberland. We are seeking a helpful, volunteer pro bono, Landscape Architect to join us on our journey of creating the new site at Morpeth. Our charity regularly works with pro bono specialists, in legal, PR, and other areas, and we believe in the power of social cooperation for public good.
Our fully negotiable requirements are for a volunteer pro bono Landscape Architect to visit the site with our staff; draw-up a pre-application scale plan of the site for submission to the Local Planning Authority; and later, if required by LPA, plans for full planning permission.
For early career architects, your connection with this project is a unique opportunity to be involved in an innovative approach to solving a social, community and environmental issue.
For established architects and architectural practices, involvement will enhance your existing Corporate Social Responsibility and brings an opportunity for positive local and national PR.
For retired architects, your involvement means you can give something back to society and continuing flexing your skill in practice.
Along the way, and when the project is completed, we would be delighted to be involved in your PR, marketing, and to help share the story of our work together.
Please contact Dr Deborah Burn for an informal, no obligation, discussion.
(This role is for a qualified Landscape Architect, sorry we cannot accept applications from students).

About the project
We are the Guild Church for Workers in the City of London, building a multilingual community where those in often low-paid or precarious occupations are at the heart of our life and leadership. As part of our support of workers, we provide free beginner English classes every Saturday morning in partnership with English for Action. As these classes have grown, we have provided a homecooked meal for everyone, to share conversation and build community.
We believe in the power of shared meals to foster community and connection. We're looking for Volunteer Community Cooks to help us create a welcoming space on Saturday mornings, where everyone feels at home.
Are you a passionate cook with a heart for community?
St Katharine Cree is seeking warm and enthusiastic volunteers to join us on Saturday mornings to cook a delicious and nourishing meal for around 30 people to enjoy after their beginner English language class.

What you'll bring
A love for cooking and a desire to share your skills
A friendly and approachable personality.
A willingness to work as part of a team.
A genuine interest in connecting with others.
A food hygiene certificate would be a bonus, but it is not essential, we can help you obtain one.
What you'll do
Prepare delicious, healthy meals using the ingredients available to you in our community kitchen.
Help foster a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere.
Work alongside community members who will assist with cooking and take care of the washing up.
What you'll gain
The opportunity to make a positive impact on your community.
The chance to share your passion for cooking.
The joy of building meaningful relationships.
A rewarding and fulfilling volunteer experience.
St Katharine Cree is a church, and our community activity is rooted in our Christian faith, but being a Christian is not required for this volunteer role. We welcome all who share our passion for community and service and ask that volunteers respect our values and ethos and help create a welcoming environment.
Safeguarding
St Katharine Cree is committed to safeguarding the welfare and protection of children and vulnerable adults throughout our work and in our partnerships with other institutions. This role is subject to the completion of a standard DBS check. The role will require undertaking relevant Diocese of London safeguarding training, if a current certificate is not already held, which will be arranged by the Line Manager or CSO. SKC’s full Safeguarding Policy will be provided to all new staff on joining the organisation and they are expected to read it and act in accordance with it at all times.

The University of Northampton is seeking a new member of its Audit and Risk Committee.
Committee members add valued additional expertise and perspective to support the work of a Board committee, without becoming members of the Board. This can be a great way to get experience and connect with the University with less of a time commitment. Joining a committee does not preclude applying for Board membership in future.
The Audit and Risk Committee is responsible to the Board of Governors for supporting the Board’s role in risk management, control and governance and for the advising on the probity of the University’s financial statements and the economic, efficient and effective operation of the University.
As a member of the Audit and Risk Committee, you will be at the forefront of the development of the University, overseeing its strategy, direction and long-term future. You will build professional networks, collaborate with governors and staff, and build your own professional experience, profile and impact. This may include building new skills which will boost your professional expertise. You will bring skills or experience in at least one of the areas in the Committee’s remit. These are financial management, reporting and planning, accountancy, internal or external audit, risk management, health and safety and legal compliance.
You will work as part of a strong and supportive team of your fellow governors, committee members, and members of staff. In return your skills, experience and broader perspective help the University to ensure that it continues to fulfil its mission. You will be part of an organisation which has social impact as its purpose. The University is an economic engine and a force for social change for the county, the region, and the UK. Our latest Economic Impact Report showed that for every £1 spent running the University, £4 is returned to the economy – a 300% return on investment.
There is more information about the University, the role and how to apply in the attached document. This is also available by contacting Miriam Lakin.
The University of Northampton is committed to equality, diversity and inclusion and to providing an inclusive environment for staff, students, governors and our stakeholders. We believe strongly that having Board members from a wide range of personal and professional backgrounds ensures the diversity of thought and rigour of debate which characterises a high-performing Board. Applications from women, those with global ethnic majority backgrounds, with declared disabilities, and from LBGT+ candidates are warmly received. In recruiting to the committee, we seek a broad and diverse range of previous professional and personal skills and experiences. Appointments take account of the personal and professional skills and experience of applicants in the context of the overall composition of the committee.
The role is voluntary and reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.
If you have any questions about the role or making an application, you are welcome to contact Miriam Lakin, Associate Director of Governance, Compliance and Risk.
