Centre Manager

The Teignbridge Heritage Centre is a focal point for recording the history and culture of our local environment.  The museum has a large collection of historical and contemporary artifacts including the remains of the French invasion and sacking of Teignmouth in 1690.  It also offers comprehensive research and archive access to a large collection of historical artifacts and data.

Applications are invited for the post of Centre Manager

This voluntary role is key to the smooth running and viability of the Museum and carries responsibility for most aspects of the day-to-day coordination and administration of the Centre.  Much of the role’s responsibilities can be handled online with a nominal ½ day a week on duty at the Museum.

Ideal applicants will be able to bring business experience and flexibility to handle a range of responsibilities and a team of volunteers.  Well-developed administrative and delegation skills, possibly acquired from a management role in industry or commerce, will be a distinct advantage.

Volunteers would be expected to attend training for the role both online and in person, and to attend regular network weekly meetings to enable them to keep their skills up to date.

The Alice Ruggles Trust is looking for 3 new Trustees in total, one of whom will act as the Treasurer.

The Alice Ruggles Trust is an organisation set-up by the parents of Alice Ruggles following her murder by her stalker. The charitys mission is to prevent what happened to Alice from happening to others and to bring stalking to an end.

Our trustees play a vital role in making sure that Alice Ruggles Trust achieves its core purpose. They oversee the overall management and administration of the charity. They also ensure that Alice Ruggles Trust has a clear strategy and that our work and goals are in line with our vision. Just as importantly, they support and challenge the executive team to enable Alice Ruggles Trust to grow and thrive, and through this, achieve our mission.

We are looking for one Trustee & Deputy Chair to join our Charity Trustee Board to support the Union through its next steps. A strong and active Board is crucial for us as we develop and implement our strategy, face challenges, maximise opportunities and endeavour to create an even better Union; one that continues to be flexible and agile enough to react quickly to the changing needs and interests of our student members and achieve our vision.

The Person

The right candidate will thrive in a student led, highly responsive environment and have an enthusiasm for supporting and guiding a student organisation. They will command confidence, have sound judgement and strong communication and leadership skills. We are looking for a trustee with the following skills/experience

Finance Experience: 

• Preferably financial experience from a charity outside of the SU sector
• Understanding of financial oversight
• Ability to interpret financial information to support strategic decision-making
• Awareness of charity finance and regulatory requirements

Chairing Experience: 

• Ability to deputise for the Chair, and chair meetings of the Board
• Ability to build a strong and effective working relationship with the Board of Trustees Chair
• Ability to foster, maintain and ensure that constructive relationships exist with and between the Trustees
• Assist and support the Chair in providing leadership to the Board, through the governance arrangements, and also acting as a ‘sounding board’ and confidante to the Chair in the execution of their role

Due to the current make-up of our Trustee Board, we are not actively searching for candidates with skills, knowledge and experience related to the Student Union and HE sector and we would welcome candidates from other sectors or regions to apply. That said, we would very much like to encourage anyone who feels that they could bring something to our Board to apply, regardless of experience - our purpose and values also lead us to welcome first time Trustees too!

Youth Advantage UK is a charitable organization that uses a research-led approach to inform policy work and projects that aim to promote and further the human rights of young people aged 11 to 25 across the United Kingdom.

Network meetings are held on Wednesday evenings between 19:30-21:00 during school term time although these are normally reduced to twice monthly in winter. It is important for applicants to generally be able to attend meetings.

Interviews will be held around similar times to the regular meetings on Wednesday evenings in Heanor.

Induction evenings will be held at same time and location as the regular meetings and an existing volunteer will provide direct support as a Buddy.

As well we online training, in person training will be provided. In person training is usually over one weekend.

Victory Afghanistan is a Chicago-registered, women-led 501(c)(3) educational charity supporting over 800 Afghan girls and women through free online English and mentoring programmes. Our students, aged 11 to 40, have been barred from formal education since 2021 under the current political regime. Despite this, they continue to study online each week with courage, determination, and hope for the future.

We are now recruiting Conversational English Partners for our sixth semester beginning in January 2026.

Role Description

Conversational Partners meet with small groups of Afghan girls who are already fluent or near-fluent in English and simply wish to practise speaking and listening in a friendly, supportive environment.

• Each session lasts one hour, twice a week, for 16 weeks.
• There is no set curriculum, but we can help you plan interesting discussion topics or theme-based sessions if you prefer structure.
• Students may also suggest their own weekly topics.
• The focus is on confidence, connection, and conversation.

Who We’re Looking For

Ideal volunteers will have:

• Clear spoken English and strong communication skills
• Empathy, patience, and sensitivity to cultural differences
• A genuine interest in helping others learn and grow
• Reliability and commitment to attend sessions consistently

You do not need teaching experience,  just an open mind and a willingness to engage in meaningful conversation with remarkable young women.

This role will require an in-person interview, which will take place provisionally in Birmingham City Centre. Interview dates/times will be emailed to you should your application be successful. Please ensure that you are able to attend an in person interview in Birmingham before submitting your application.

Volunteers would be expected to commit 100 hours of volunteering a year in a clinical capacity. They will also be expected to keep in regular contact with their line manager and keep up to date with their training.

Once your screening for role has been completed, you will be invited to attend your local St John Ambulance Network for a Welcome and Induction.

Training for this role consists of online learning modules and a 6 day in-person course, normally spread across three weekends. Your local Network will support you through the training process.
