Environment volunteer roles

At St John Ambulance, we are looking to develop our volunteering offer and become an even more integral part of our communities through delivering community first aid and education. 

We need people who have a passion for helping others, care about their communities and want to make a difference, supporting them to become safe and more resilient by sharing your first aid skills and knowledge. As a Community First Aider, you’ll deliver first aid to those in need through local events, as well as provide education to the public so that the ripple effect of First Aid grows.

Through supporting the growth of community partnerships, you will bring people along to our cause, growing our membership and fundraising base and spreading the message that First Aid Saves Lives. 

Through volunteering as a Community First Aider, you’ll get a huge sense of satisfaction and pride delivering an essential service. It’s great for you, great for your community and great for our nation, and it requires only a small commitment of your time. 

We will make sure you will have access to a proper induction to volunteering with SJA and the training you need for the role you take on. We will also provide you with a supportive environment while you are volunteering with us. Information about our volunteer roles are included in the role descriptions. To be able to complete at least 80 hours of volunteering per year, and to attend and pass the CFA Training Course. To be able to talk to the public about what we do, and to be able to promote our cause and mission.

When screened, to attend the Network meetings at Devizes, and to join in with our training sessions. After passing the CFA course, to go out and attend events, provide medical cover, and also to do some local PR and demonstration for the public.

What will you be doing?

We look to new Trustees who join our Board to maintain and continue to build upon our capacity and diversity. We are a skills-based Board, with Trustees having one or more identified skills, which are relevant to the nature of PHQ and our key areas of operation. We are particularly looking for the following skills and experience:

• Commercial property experience, either in surveying or lettings and commercial property management.
• Financial management (at Finance Director level or above) incorporating astrong background in audit management and oversight.
• Gosport residents with experience of the local commercial, political or heritagelandscapes.

We particularly welcome applications from individuals from a range of backgrounds and experiences as part of our commitment to broaden the diversity of our Board. Previous Trustee experience is not necessary.

You will shape the strategy of PHQ and monitor progress on the delivery of that strategy, providing support, challenge and advice to a small executive management team.  Each Trustee should use any specific skills, knowledge or experience they have to help the Board of Trustees reach sound decisions. They should be ambassadors for PHQ, safeguarding our values and good name.

Through volunteering as an Emergency Responder, you’ll get a huge sense of satisfaction and pride delivering essential first aid and lifesaving clinical care at community and major events in your areas, including at sporting events, concerts, community festivals.

We will make sure you will have access to a proper induction to volunteering with SJA and the training you need for the role you take on. There is an expectation to regularly attend training meetings at one of our Network Units. Locations, days and times will be discussed at interview stage.

Candidates will be invited to attend an informal interview at Wharf Street in Wolverhampton where they will have the opportunity to learn more about the role as well as opportunities within St John Ambulance. If successful you will also required to complete relevant role training which includes both in person practical (4 days) and mandatory online eLearning.

There will be quarterly welcome events taking place at Wharf Street Wolverhampton where the successful candidates will meet the leaders for the Wolverhampton Networks. During the induction they will learn more about the organisation, how to access resources and select their preferred network to join - this will be predominantly based on the meeting night of the network. Training for the role will include up to 4 days of practical in-class training, ongoing assessment and mandatory online eLearning.

SHEEO (Solidarity for Her Education and Empowerment Organisation) is transforming the lives of rural Tanzanian girls and young women by tackling the root causes of poverty, inequality, and exclusion. Content & Communication Specialist

SHEEO Tanzania is seeking a passionate Content & Communication Specialist (Remote) who takes initiative and thrives in a collaborative, purpose-driven environment. As part of a growing team, you’ll play a key role in shaping and strengthening our visual identity and branding, ensuring consistency across all materials. You’ll create engaging visuals, infographics, and educational content on topics like gender equality and empowerment, helping to make the voices of rural girls and young women seen and heard. We are seeking dedicated and compassionate Volunteers to join our new drop in group in Rose hill, South Oxford that take place on 12.30 - 2.30 pm Thursday 1st and 3rd of the month starting 4th Sept. This role is ideal for individuals looking to make a meaningful impact in the community while gaining valuable experience.

The Say Aphasia charity provides support groups across the UK for people with aphasia; a language and communication disability caused by a brain injury like a stroke. Aphasia affects over 350,000 people in the UK but is little understood or known about by the public. It is the only aphasia charity set up by people with aphasia for people with aphasia; helping them to adapt to their new way of life and regain their independence and confidence.

Aphasia occurs due to injury to the brain such as a stroke. It affects access to language, resulting in difficulties following conversations, speaking, reading and writing.

Volunteers will support the running of the group with communicating, and will have the opportunity to utilise their communication skills and IT knowledge to take a register of attendance.

Responsibilities

• Provide companionship and support to individuals, particularly those living with aphasia.
• Assist in organising activities that promote social interaction and engagement.
• Communicate effectively with participants, ensuring their needs are understood and met.
• Help maintain a safe and welcoming environment for all participants.
• Collaborate with other volunteers to enhance the group.

Qualifications

• An understanding or knowledge in aphasia is desirable.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse groups.
• Proficiency in IT, including familiarity with common software applications.
• A compassionate and patient attitude towards individuals in need of support.

We are seeking enthusiastic, innovative volunteer teachers who are passionate about education, youth development and equity to join our 25-26 cohort. Food and housing expenses are covered. We currently serve hundreds of students across our partner school, Santa Monica Bilingual School, in northern Honduras. You will be joining a network of hundreds of alumni who have supported this important work for nearly 20 years. Our signature teaching program includes  ear-long teacher training and year-long professional development opportunities that highlights the important current and historical context in which we are teaching and learning from our students and the communities in which we live. At a high level, each volunteer teacher is responsible for: leading an English curriculum for students in grades PreK-9 in ELA, Science, Math, Art, PE and Computers (all classes are capped at 25 students, and most teachers take on one full curriculum for a grade level) supporting fellow teachers in the classroom, getting to know your students and their families, and immersing oneself in Honduran culture. Don’t worry - we’ll be there to support you with every step along the way! 

REQUIRED DUTIES:

• Facilitate relationships with students’ parents and other community members 

• Plan lessons and teach in English (all subjects with the exception of Social Studies and Spanish)

• Foster a safe and productive classroom environment for students 

• Serve as a Lunch/Recess monitor

• Collaborate with the teaching team (Honduran and International) on school projects, events, planning, and curriculum development

• Contribute to the collaborative and respectful group living experience

• Serve as an ambassador for BECA by helping to spread the word about our work to your families and friends 

• Participate in professional development events, such as local education-based conferences, and BECA-lead efforts

WSUP is a grassroots charity supporting people experiencing hardship and/or housing instability across Royal Borough of Greenwich. We work with people facing poverty, homelessness, substance misuse, trauma, and health inequalities. Our support is holistic, inclusive, and rooted in lived experience. 

WSUP is committed to creating safe, inclusive, and empowering spaces, particularly for women who may have experienced trauma, discrimination or marginalisation. This includes our Women Wednesday programme – a women-only community session offering practical support, creative wellbeing activities, peer connection, and access to health and housing services.
