Are you an experienced fundraiser, skilled in crafting persuasive narratives and telling moving stories of impact and change? We have a fabulous opportunity for you to use your creative and organisational skills to make a difference to young lives in Doncaster. 

We are currently finalising our next Forward Plan, with an ambition to create an inclusive, vibrant community, committed to everyone having a fair chance to discover who they are and what they can become.  We currently work with children and young people aged 5 to 30. 

Our priority programmes include support coaching for young people, community activity sessions, sustaining our accommodation provision for vulnerable young adults and establishing how we can best support more young people on the homelessness pathway.  We have some great spaces that are in need of development, and we expect that both capital and revenue funding will be included in your workload. We also look for smaller grants during the course of the year, including for food for our residents and supplies for our art groups, and we hope to recruit volunteers to assist with some elements of this work.

The core of your role will be in generating funds from trusts and individual giving, with other fundraising and communications tasks included as time permits.

• To create and update cases for support for YMCA Doncaster’s fundable projects and general running costs.
• To be responsible for an assigned portfolio of trusts, foundations and similar, developing knowledge of, and relationships with, those funders.
• To make strong applications to funders within the assigned portfolio, matching YMCA Doncaster’s agreed cases for support with funders’ interests and requirements.
• To create, publicise and monitor outcomes of giving campaigns and / or fundraising events. 
• To nurture key external stakeholders including potential supporters from the local business community, the media and others as appropriate.
• To prepare and give presentations, maintain ongoing contact and host trustee or representative visits where required as part of fundraising work.
• To devise and oversee efficient evaluation and monitoring systems which meet funder requirements.

THE VACANCY

Deputy Regional Secretary – Asia Pacific

Location: Based in one of the ITF’s regional offices (Delhi, Singapore, Sydney, Tokyo or Hong Kong) with regular international travel across the region.

About the Role

As the Deputy Regional Secretary, you will play a central role in shaping and executing the ITF’s mission across the Asia Pacific. You will work directly with the Regional Secretary to provide political, strategic, and operational leadership, ensuring our work is effective, impactful, and aligned with our global priorities.

Your key responsibilities will include:

• Strategic Leadership: Supporting the development and implementation of the regional strategy and work programmes that empower transport workers and their unions.
• Political Analysis: Monitoring political and labour developments to inform the ITF’s strategic responses and campaigning priorities in the region.
• Building Power: Building and maintaining strong relationships with affiliated and prospective unions to grow our membership and strengthen the movement.
• Coordination & Governance: Supporting the work of our regional governance bodies, including elected Vice-Presidents and National Coordinating Committees.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Establishing strategic relationships with donor organisations and external partners to secure resources and amplify our impact.
• Championing Equality: Ensuring the leadership of women, young workers, and marginalised groups is central to all our regional strategies and projects.
• Deputisation: Acting on behalf of the Regional Secretary when required, representing the ITF at high-level forums and meetings.

About you

The mission and values of the ITF are of utmost importance and as such, the successful candidate for this role must hold high ethical standards, displaying diligence and integrity when representing the organisation.

We are looking for a purpose-driven individual with significant experience of senior leadership within trade unions or social movements within the Asia Pacific region, including the development and implementation of key organisational strategies within a trade union or social movements context within the Asia Pacific region. This person must be able to demonstrate strategic thinking and have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

The role requires an excellent communicator who had the ability to work effectively to engage and motivate others. It also needs someone who can effectively build relationships, as well as display collaborative and influencing skills.

Two 6 month placements 

• Through work placements with organisations driving impactful change, you'll gain hands-on experience tackling pressing social and environmental issues 4.5 days of the week. Some of our current partners include Better Society Capital, Save the Children, BAFTA and VISA.

Expert-led learning 

• Our intensive Learning & Development programme involves weekly in-person sessions led by experts from across sectors. This blend of professional training and academic rigour equips you with the skills, knowledge and mindset to lead organisational and systemic change. 

1:1 mentoring & coaching

• Receive support through fortnightly mentoring sessions and quarterly executive coaching, fostering both your personal and professional growth.

• You’ll be part of a tight-knit cohort of 20 Associates, participating in training sessions every Friday afternoon together. Who we’re looking for:

This programme is ideal for:

• Individuals seeking a career change into the environment and social impact sector.

• Individuals already in the impact sector who want to develop new skills, have the opportunity to work in more commercial organisations, or to join an engaged network of people who share your values and are working toward the same goal. 

Specific sector or industry experience is not important. We’re looking for talented people from diverse industries who have a determination to bring their skills and experience to purpose-driven projects and to driving systemic change. We seek ambitious individuals with:

• A minimum of three years full-time professional experience

• The right to work in the UK for the full duration of the programme

• Fluency in English 

• Office environment experience 

• Skills in project management, stakeholder engagement, adaptability, interpersonal communication, problem-solving, quantitative analysis and strategic thinking.

• Excitement and commitment towards building a career that helps transform our economy from profit to purpose.
