Job Purpose
One Place London is a community interest company located in West London engaged in Acting for Film and Music Recording workshops for young people aged 14-25, unemployed or at risk of getting involved in crime. We are looking for an experienced HR Officer to join the team. The primary purpose of this role is to support the Managing Director facilitate the smooth running of our human resources function, including onboarding new employees, managing the HR systems and assisting with some aspects of payroll and employee benefits.
Whilst specific legal training is not required, solid HR legal knowledge will be advantageous.

Purpose:
Charity law requires all charity trustees to prepare accounts for their charity. An independent examination is a form of external scrutiny that provides a limited check on specific matters.
Registered and excepted charities with income less than £25k must have an Independent Examination unless the accounts are audited.
Requirement:
An independent person whom the trustees reasonably believe to have the requisite ability and practical experience to carry out a competent examination of the accounts.
Must be a member of one of the accountancy bodies listed in the Charities Act
Key tasks:
Well verse with Commission’s Directions and guidance as independent Examiner
To provide an independent scrutiny of the accounts and, in this way, help maintain public trust and confidence in charities.
Ensure; No evidence was found of a lack of accounting records; Nor of the accounts failing to reflect those records; Nor of the accounts failing to comply with the relevant legislation
Liaising with the trustees to ensure the accounting records are available
Agreeing responsibilities with the trustees, for example, who will prepare the accounts and file them with the Commission
Agreeing a timetable for the examination with the trustees
Ensuring the examination takes place at a time when trustees and key staff are available to answer any questions that may arise
Key results/objectives:
At the conclusion of the independent examination the examiner makes a report to the charity trustees. Charity law requires the examiner’s report to comment on three specific things:
the accounting records kept, whether the accounts agree with those records, and whether the format of the accounts is correct.

Time commitment
The joint Skills and Education Group Awards/BIIAB Board normally meets three times a year and the Chair will also represent these two companies at 4 Skills and Education Group Group Board meetings. These meetings are carried out in October, January, April and July.
As part of our strategic transformation goals we will be looking reform our governance structure, as such meeting dates may change as we work with our Chairs and Trustees to ensure a robust and sustainable approach to our governance in line with similar group organisations.
The size of the Skills and Education Group Awards and BIIAB Board (including the Non-Executive Chair) is four. The main Group Board has 10 Non-Executive Directors plus the Chair.

Position Overview

Responsibilities:
- Supporting the Programmes & Partnership Manager in securing trust and foundation funding, which will include: performing donor research; drafting, proofreading, and editing grant applications and reports (in part or in full); and ad hoc administration relating to donor management.
- Supporting the Corporate Liaison Officer to secure corporate funding, which will include: researching potential donor companies; supporting corporate facing marketing materials; and supporting creation of report and proposal materials.
- Supporting the Managing Director and the Director of Programmes and Operation, to ensure the smooth running of the organisation, which will include: preparing financial reports and documentation; note taking at trustees’ meetings; supporting development of policy and procedural documentation; building on fundraising and networking opportunities; and supporting the recruitment process.

Desired Knowledge/Experience/Skills/Qualifications
- Hold or be studying towards an undergraduate degree in or relating to international development (or have equivalent professional/experiential background).
- Knowledge and/or keen interest in development and/or conservation issues facing least developed countries such as Madagascar; previous experience living or working in a developing country would be an asset.
- Knowledge and/or keen interest in at least one of SEED Madagascar’s five core areas (community health; sustainable livelihoods; environmental conservation; education infrastructure and water, sanitation and hygiene); previous experience of community-based work would be an asset.
- Excellent analytical skills and ability to gather and assimilate information from various sources, compile documents (reports and proposals), and identify lessons learnt and best practice.
- Sound ability to adapt material for different audiences.
- Be able to conduct internet research.
- Be able to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Be able to financially support themselves for the duration of their internship as there is no stipend available for travel or sustenance.
- Strong written English is essential, French and/or Malagasy would be an asset.
- Experience working with American Corporate organisations would be an added asset.
- Be willing to take on mundane tasks such as drafting thank you notes for donors.

What We’re Looking For
- Proven leadership experience.
- Strong coaching and mentoring skills with a supportive and empowering approach.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Confidence in facilitating training and leading group discussions.
- High level of IT proficiency
- A commitment to volunteerism and a passion for developing others.
- Ability to commit to the role for at least 12 months ideally.
