ROLES

Fundraising Advocate - Raise awareness and funds to help Building Heroes and the veterans we support! Get involved in a one-time event or provide long-term fundraising support by attending regular events. We will assist with any promotion or administrative needs however, we are counting on you to raise the funds! Organise an event yourself or join one of ours! Current fundraising events include: The London Summer Walk, The Great North Run, The Great South Run, The Building Heroes Bike Ride, and many more!

Charity Advocate - Our charity advocates are responsible for raising awareness of Building Heroes and our initiatives. They are responsible for promoting the charity within the military community and connecting with key members to spread awareness of our services. This can include conducting talks and presentations in military venues, introducing members of the military community to our charity and training partners, finding new areas for us to promote our programmes, and promoting the charity at events for the wider public (e.g. Armed Forces Day, retail fundraising.)

Mentor Advocate - As a mentoring advocate, you will be responsible for directly supporting veterans and service leavers who are seeking assistance through Building Heroes. You will help our Academy Leads to guide learners through their transition from military to civilian life by sharing personal experiences and signposting to the relevant support to help learners to achieve their goals. This role could include: an informal chat/presentation to a group currently on a Building Heroes programme, assisting the Academy Lead to support learners one-to-one, signposting learners to relevant organisations/support to assist them with any personal or professional issues. This is our most challenging role and needs someone empathetic, good at communicating, and with military experience.

ABOUT US

Help us support those who have served. Established in 2014, Building Heroes provides construction training and employment support to the military community—including veterans, service leavers, reservists, and their families. We offer pathways to meaningful civilian careers in construction, infrastructure and green skills, empowering our armed forces community learners to transition successfully into civilian life. Each year, hundreds benefit from our programmes, which are 90% or fully funded, minimising costs to our beneficiaries. These courses equip them not only with professional skills but also build confidence and community, making them job-ready and civilian life-ready.

PLEASE NOTE:

• Volunteers must be 18+.
• Fundraising and Charity Advocate roles are open to the general public. You must be a veteran to be a Mentor.

Using your knowledge of the Education Sector you will build strong partnerships with schools and colleges to deliver nutrition and lifestyle based interventions that inspire children and young adults to eat more real and natural food!

What will you be doing?

In this immensely important and pivotal role within CFK you will: 

• Build a team of like-minded volunteers who have a good understanding of the education sector including how schools run, the curriculum and the most effective ways of educating and inspiring children and their families
• Lead and inspire your team to design, refine and deliver inspiring interventions
• Design and develop strategies to support the achievement of the CFK project goals
• Lead the design, delivery and implementation of interventions within school settings
• Build strong relationships with current and potential intervention sites (i.e. schools), strategic partners and other CFK Teams

What are we looking for?

About You

To be successful in this role you will have:

• Experience working with children, educators / teachers and parents in school settings 
• A clear and visible passion for improving the health and wellbeing of children through nutrition and lifestyle
• Some formal training in working with children, for example as teacher, Head Teacher, teaching assistant, educationalist, health/sport coach
• Strong management and leadership experience and skills  
• A natural ability to inspire others 
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage projects effectively
• Articulate written, visual and verbal communicator - fluency in English is essential 
• Experience and interest in working with authorities (ideal but not essential)

As a team of volunteers, we are ever so grateful to everyone who agrees to contribute some of their valuable time to the project. As a Team Leader we ask for a commitment of 5-6 hours per week (on average). 

All are voluntary positions with no remuneration offered other than what we hope will be a huge amount of job satisfaction and fun, working with like-minded people with a passion for making a real difference to future generations.

What difference will you make?

This is an extremely important, pivotal role within CFK. 

As the leader of the 'Schools Delivery Team' you will effectively develop and lead a team of like minded volunteers whose inspiring creativity and ideas will improve the health and happiness of children and their families, not just now but for generations to come!

We have a number of potential Intervention sites in the West Sussex/East Hampshire region and Greater Manchester region. It would desirable (but not essential) if you are located within one of these regions and able to travel to Intervention sites when required.

Why we want you: This vital role supports local groups across the UK, which are volunteer-run, offering friendship and support to people living with Parkinson's, their families, and friends. As a pivotal part of the local volunteer team, you will help plan group spending for the benefit of people affected by Parkinson's in your community.

What you will be doing: Be an ambassador for Team Parkinson’s, engaging with local staff, volunteers, and your community to ensure the group has the greatest possible impact. Accurately record financial activity, keeping the group and the Parkinson's UK local networks finance team informed of the group's financial position. With local staff support, stay updated on Parkinson's UK's financial policies, sharing them with the group and ensuring compliance. Provide regular financial reports to the committee, including final accounts at the Annual General Meeting. Deal with financial administration, from annual reports to legacy spending, and ensure accurate volunteer expense payments per policy. Be a signatory on the group's bank accounts.

The skills you need: Previous experience in finance, accountancy, or bookkeeping can be valuable but is not essential. You must be confident with numbers and able to lead the group’s finances, possessing confident computer and email skills and openness to using new systems and digital tools. A commitment to the wider charity’s aims and values is essential, as is the ability to contribute to balanced, collaborative, open, and inclusive decisions with committee and local staff.

Play a crucial role in the local Parkinson's community, Team Parkinson’s, and wider local planning, making new friends and building connections. Develop or maintain your accountancy or bookkeeping skills, along with administrative and communication skills; we are happy to provide references.

About The Role

We’re WWT, the charity for wetlands and wildlife. We’re on a mission to restore wetlands because they are a wondrous solution to our world's problems. Together we will unlock their power – and help nature burst back to life. Because when wetlands flourish, all life will flourish. We lead the way, bring life and inspire connection. 

Volunteers are integral to the running of our Welney centre and without their help we wouldn’t be able to welcome our visitors to this amazing wetland. Your role will be helping to bring people of all ages and backgrounds closer to wetland wildlife, by providing assistance to visitors and encouraging them to explore the site and learn about WWT’s pioneering wetland conservation work, to save wetlands for wildlife and people. You’ll support the delivery of excellent customer service for the retail and membership team, inspiring people to support us as members of the WWT, and be a warm and welcoming face for our cause.

We are looking for volunteers who can ideally give one day a week, exact hours to be agreed. 

Volunteers are an essential part of the WWT team. You'll get a warm welcome, including information on training, equipment and anything else you need.

About You

This role will suit you if you have a positive, friendly, can-do attitude, and are committed to delivering excellent customer service. Having, or being happy to develop, the confidence to engage our visitors of all ages simply and effectively around their needs is also an essential part of this role, being a good communicator in English (other languages are also useful!).

You’ll have a real interest in and enthusiasm for WWT’s work, nature and the outdoors and will be happy to develop this to share with others in a variety of ways: promoting membership; attending briefing sessions and familiarising yourself with events, activities, sightings and developments at the centre; and on a day-to-day basis, answering visitor questions, helping them to navigate what’s on offer. Welney has a close-working team, and much of the time you will be working in a group, however, the ability to work under your own initiative and being self-motivated at other times is also needed.

Who will you volunteer with? Retail, Admissions & Membership Manager

Time commitment? We are looking for volunteers who can ideally commit to one day across the week. Shifts are negotiable, with suitable breaks. After completing training and an induction for this role, we ask volunteers to spend a minimum of 6 months volunteering with WWT Welney. 

You’ll get a warm welcome, including information on training, equipment and other information you need. This will include risk assessments based on your role and any particular support you need. Volunteers receive access to our sites, and discounts in our shops and cafes. Some roles include a uniform or require the use of equipment or protective clothing. If you are based at a particular site or office location, you’ll need to be able to get yourself there and back. Information on locations can be found on our website. We will keep you up to date with what’s happening across WWT and the difference you will be helping to make happen.
