Thomley’s Vision is to enhance the lives and experiences of disabled people, their families and the wider community.

Thomley has been a successful charity for 25 years. We annually enhance the lives of more than 37,435 visitors each year (14,974 people with disabilities and 22,461 non-disabled people at our beautiful centre in rural Oxfordshire/ Buckinghamshire and have exciting plans for our future development.

Our dynamic committed staff team is led by an exceptional Chief Executive and we are now looking to expand our Board of Trustees.

We wish to further diversify our Board and would particularly welcome applications from people under the age of 30 (18yrs minimum). However, please do not let this put you off if you are outside of this criteria.

As one of the trustees you will make a significant contribution to the future direction of the organisation, enhancing the experiences and lives of our visitors and their families.

Our existing Board of eight trustees is friendly, positive, outward looking and determined to sustain and improve Thomley. This is an exciting time to contribute your enthusiasm, time, and abilities in order to help us!

Your role will include oversight and development of:

Strategic direction - we are clear on our overall vision and would value your contributions in making this a reality.

Being a critical friend for members of the operational team and to support them in delivering Thomley’s strategy.

Overseeing all aspects of the charity to ensure it is compliant will all regulatory requirements and accountable to all of our beneficiaries and supporters.

We would also welcome the following specific skills:

· Finance in relation to reporting and compliance.

· Income generation through fundraising/utilising our assets. We are actively diversifying our income streams.

· Property knowledge.

· Marketing - to enhance Thomley’s reach.

The above specific skills are not essential, and we would not want to dampen your enthusiasm to apply!

A knowledge of disability is desirable but a willingness to understand what this means to our visitors and their families would be essential.

About the Role

The Bridge Project is a well-established Bradford based charity with over 35 years’ experience delivering services and projects addressing a range of issues such as substance misuse, risk taking behaviours, relationships, housing, physical/mental health, and employment. We work with individuals, families, partners, and communities to improve people’s lives in a sustainable way, empowering people experiencing multiple barriers to achieve positive change.

We currently employ over 120 staff, 40% of whom are ‘experts by experience’ and have joined us through our volunteering programme.  We are recognised as being innovative and recovery focused, and our services have been highlighted nationally  as examples of best practice in the sector. Our portfolio of services and projects are constantly evolving in response to the changing needs of our service users and our local communities. Currently this includes recovery focussed drug treatment services, housing and resettlement support, access to education, training, and employment (ETE), volunteering programmes, support for people engaged with criminal justice services and befriending/mentoring services for people with significant barriers to recovery and community reengagement.

What will you be doing?

Our Trustees play a pivotal role in governing the Bridge Project.  They are responsible for setting our strategic vision and priorities, ensuring our financial sustainability, and providing guidance and oversight to our operations. Our Board is committed to excellence, and we are looking for new individuals to bring fresh knowledge and experience to join us in this important work.  We’re committed to creating a Board which is representative of the communities we support, bringing together those with a variety of skills and experiences, to help shape what we do and how we work.  We’re particularly keen to hear from candidates from ethnically diverse backgrounds and from woman, however, we would be pleased to hear from you if you feel you can add value to our Board and would like to help us to make a positive contribution.  This is a rewarding role and you do not need to have experience of been a Trustee before, as there will be a comprehensive induction.

As a Trustee, you will have the opportunity to bring commitment, energy and enthusiasm to the role with a passion for doing your best.  You will work alongside other talented Trustees, engage with our staff and stakeholders, and contribute to our collective mission of empowering people experiencing multiple barriers to achieve positive change.

Our Trustees play a vital role in making sure that the Bridge Project achieves its core purpose. They oversee the overall management and administration of the charity. They also ensure that the charity has a clear strategy and that our work and goals are in line with our vision. Just as importantly, they support and challenge the senior leadership team to enable The Bridge Project to grow and thrive, and through this, achieve our mission.

Time Commitment

We ask that you are able to devote time to attend 4 Trustee Board meetings per year, 4 Sub-Committee meetings per year and 1 Planning meeting.  These are a mixture of in-person meetings in Bradford and zoom meetings.  Meetings are currently held in the evening.  Trustees are also encouraged to visit our premises to meet with the staff team and meet the people we support.

You will collectively be responsible for ensuring that the Chief Officer and his team not only grow our services to meet everyone that needs them, but that the service we provide is of the highest quality.  Last year we provided treatment and support to 4,900 individuals.

You will also have an opportunity to expand your knowledge of the voluntary and community sector and give something back to the local community as well as developing new skills.

We are seeking people who can enrich the insights brought to our Board of Trustees through their life experiences and understanding of our service users.

We particularly would like to recruit people with an interest in:

• Joining our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Working Group
• Helping us drive our IT strategy forward.

Impact Initiatives is an innovative, respected and long-standing charity which has flexed and developed alongside changing needs over its forty plus years of existence. We currently work with over 10,000 people across Sussex each year, have 90+ staff and a turnover of just over £3,000,000.

Requirements

• A commitment to the aims and values of the organisation, and an understanding of some of the issues our service users face.
• An ability to understand and discuss information on the work of the organisation.
• An ability and willingness to discuss ideas and options to help make decisions in the best interests of the organisation and experience of attending and contributing to meetings is helpful but not essential, enthusiasm and commitment to our work and values are more important
• Trustees must be aged 18+

Our Trustees hold four formal in person meetings each year with additional meetings as and when needed. Finance, business development and service delivery reports are circulated before meetings so any queries can be answered prior to the meeting where they are discussed.

We are the leading UK charity for doctors, medical students and their families.  We are looking for two working doctors to join our trustee Board.Ideally applicants should have direct knowledge of the challenges currently facing the NHS.  As well as relevant experience within the medical profession, expertise in the areas of equality, diversity, and inclusion would also be of interest, and we encourage applicants from across the UK.

The Royal Medical Benevolent Fund provides support and advice to members of the medical profession and their dependents at times of crisis and serious need. We are looking to recruit a Treasurer to join our board of trustees. The Treasurer, in addition to their role as trustee will oversee income, expenditure and support SCIP to manage cash flow and safeguard the charity. 

Sutton Mental Health Foundation was established as a charity in 1998 and the aim of the Foundation is to support people with mental health needs in the London Borough of Sutton, helping to keep them well and active and helping them to have a voice in mental health care in the Borough.  Our vision is to provide a community in Sutton which values mental wellbeing and understands how to respond positively to anxiety and distress.  The Foundation works together to promote mental wellbeing resilience and recovery from mental distress.We provide nonclinical support, and we are part of the Voluntary Sector. 

The Foundation is seeking to add to the expertise of our experienced, professional Board of Trustees, who are all volunteers.  All our Trustees need excellent communication skills, the ability to work effectively as part of a team, strategic vision and good, independent judgement.  Although not limited to, we would particularly value the experience and skills in the following areas :

Can you spare a few hours a month to support STAMP Revisited, a local mental health charity?

We are, a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO), which has provided advocacy services for the people of Teesside for almost 30 years, and we are currently looking for new Trustees to join our Board.

Our advocates provide advocacy to adults who are experiencing mental health difficulties that impact on their ability to make their voice heard and are unable to independently navigate personal issues such as aspects of their health, finances, or housing needs.

Trustees are essential to the success of a charity, and the Board is the charity’s governing body. Trustees are responsible for ensuring the charity meets its objectives and are responsible for its general administration and control of the charity.

If you are interested in finding out more about being a Trustee and sitting on our Board, we would love to hear from you. Our Board welcomes people from diverse backgrounds, aged 18 or over with a wide range of skills. We are keen to welcome people who have personal experience of mental health challenges, including service users and carers.

Our team works hard to provide fun-packed Special Days or quiet breaks, a chance to meet heroes and legends, or the opportunity to fulfil a lifelong dream. In the toughest times, Willow creates tailored experiences that give people a boost and bring families closer together. We are the only UK charity that supports seriously ill 16 to 40-year-olds, creating magical moments which become shared memories that last a lifetime.

Since Willow was founded in 1999, we have provided more than 20,000 Special Days, Special Breaks and Special Treats, but we see this as only the first part of Willow’s journey and a base for further growth. We currently provide around 1,000 treats, days or breaks each year which means that we only reach a small percentage of those who would benefit from our services. We would love to be able to do more.

This is a pro bono appointment which brings rewards and if you would like to make a difference in our world, this is a great opportunity to bring your skills, knowledge and experience to help us deliver on our mission.

Travel expenses directly incurred in our roles as Trustees on official business can be reimbursed. Board and Committee meetings are held in person or remotely with in person meetings normally held in London.

Trustees are appointed for an initial three-year term with the opportunity to extend for a further two, three-year periods.

The time commitment is to attend 4 Board meetings a year plus relevant committee meetings. There are always opportunities to become more involved with specific projects, and trustees are strongly encouraged to attend at least 1 Willow fundraising event each year.

Specifics about the role

Willow seeks to appoint 2 new Board members as part of our succession planning. We are keen to hear from candidates who have skills or expertise in the following or similar areas:

• Worked as a senior fundraiser in a charity with a range of public fundraising methods, and are used to setting targets and reviewing the effectiveness of different streams of income.  At Willow, you will help to scrutinise and enhance our fundraising strategy and may have experience of data insight and interrogation;
• Served on, or supported a range of charity boards and are familiar with charity regulation, including the Charity Commission, HMRC and the Fundraising Regulator.  We anticipate that you will join Willow’s governance committee and perhaps serve as a future Chair or Deputy Chair
• A Senior Leader (CEO, Executive Director, Fundraising Director) from the Charity sector, with particular expertise in fundraising and the use of technology to engage supporters

You will be joining a dedicated team of Trustees. We currently have 10 board members with a variety of backgrounds and experience including finance, investments, fundraising, PR and communications, management consultancy, events, and legal.  Our trustees work closely with the Chief Executive, leadership team and senior members of the team.

ILP is an ambitious charity, currently going through an exciting period of development and growth.  We are looking for a qualified accountant to act as treasurer and support our work by ensuring effective governance and financial management.

What will you be doing?

The role of the Treasurer is to maintain effective governance of ILP, ensure financial viability and ensure that the proper processes and procedures exist to maintain all financial records, decisions and delegations.

Key Responsibilities are set out on the attached document but include:

1. Strategic

• Advise on the implementation of ILP’s strategy and resources required;

2. Financial

• Advise the Board on financial matters;
• Present financial reports to the Board;
• Oversee the preparation of management accounts, annual budget and annual accounts;
• Support for recruitment of staff responsible for financial matters;
• Liaise with relevant professional advisors;
• Advise on financial policies and accounting procedures and controls;
• Support the Executive Director and other staff on some day-to-day financial duties.

3. Governance

• Ensure the charity is carrying out its purpose for the public benefit in accordance with the charity’s governing document and the law;
• Ensure financial stability and the proper investment of charity funds;

The expected time commitment is 4 hours per month including attendance at quarterly Board meetings either at our London office or virtually.  The term of office is 3 years, serving a maximum of 3 consecutive terms. The role is unpaid although reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.

What are we looking for?

We welcome candidates who satisfy the following:

• Fully qualified chartered accountant or equivalent qualification with charity or similar accounting experience;
• Demonstrable skills in analysing financial proposals and accounts, and examining their consequences;
• Good, independent judgement;
• Willingness to devote the necessary time and effort to effectively support the charity;
• Good communication and people management skills.Qualified accountant or equivalent ideally with Treasurer/charity experience
