Job description

Snowdon Trust, a national charity based near Horsham, West Sussex, wishes to appoint a new Chief Executive to start towards the end 2020.
The Trust was established by Lord Anthony Snowdon in 1981 to help people living with a wide range of disabilities to achieve their goals in further or higher education or vocational training. Since 1981 we have given grants of over £4 million to help more than 2,700 people to achieve qualifications and futures that might not otherwise have been possible.
The Trust is in a period of evolution and we would expect the incoming Chief Executive to have an overlap with the current postholder with the express intention of creating new opportunities to develop the Trust as an organisation in order to make a significant difference in the experience of disabled students and those who support them. This may involve reviewing the current portfolio of funding and creating and implementing a 3 to 5 year forward looking strategy for the organisation.
The job description will be flexible to reflect the future direction of the Trust but it would be expected that the ideal candidate will have:
• Proven experience in strategic planning and delivering a growth/development pathway
• Knowledge of relevant legislation and the practical implications for learning/studying with a disability and/or an understanding of disability from a personal experience perspective
• Ability to act as ambassador for the charity including the ability to represent the charity’s aims to the directors of companies, Members of Parliament, and trustees of charitable bodies with a view to increasing support for the charity and extending its income generation, evidence of fundraising experience would be a distinct advantage
• Experience in personnel management and motivation in a small office environment (currently five part-time members of staff). Whilst the physical office is based in Horsham, it may, in time, be possible to create a remote working or virtual office
• Experience in financial control such as liaising with auditors and accountants, preparation of budgets and budgetary control, salaries and taxation, office and personal insurances.
The position is currently part time (around 25 hours per week), but this will be negotiable depending on fulfilling the needs of the Trust.
