What we're looking for - Xmas Concert Volunteers - Usher Halls, Edinburgh

Thursday 27 November 2025 evening 

We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers who can come along and join us for the high profile Xmas concert in aid of Childline. 

We need more volunteers for the bucket collections and also to give out programmes on the night. 

If you would like to join our friendly team for the evening we will be hosting a virtual meeting on 12 November (evening) to discuss your role.

We're looking for enthusiastic, creative and organised people across the nation to be a Community Fundraising Volunteer. Around 90 per cent of our income comes from our supporters and we couldn't continue doing what we do without them. That means, our community fundraising volunteers play a really important part in rallying people together to raise vital funds which help to protect children and prevent abuse.

What you'll do

You'll volunteer without regular time commitments, ‘as and when' volunteering! Engage with the public, organisations and local communities – promoting a positive image of the NSPCC! You'll be a valued part of one of our Volunteer Community Fundraising Teams across the UK, raising awareness and funds. We appreciate that work, family and friends come first and, with that in mind, this role offers flexibility to fit in with your lifestyle. You only need to commit to a couple of hours a month, but if you want to do more that would be great.

What you'll get

We'll support you with advice, skills and tools to help you fundraise and spread the word of the NSPCC. You'll learn more about how you're helping to protect children across the UK, and you'll have the opportunity to grow your skills and inspire others to support us. It's also a chance to spend time with like-minded people and make new friends.

The Board of Trustees exists to inspire and guide both the Executive Leadership and the Senior Leadership Team through the application of Choose Love's vision, mission, and core principles, providing inclusive leadership. The Board Governance ensures that each trustee fulfils their duties and responsibilities for effective charity governance, whilst supporting and, where appropriate, challenging the Chief Executive and Deputy Chief Executive.

The trustees ensure that the Board functions as a cohesive unit and works closely with the entire Executive of the charity to achieve agreed objectives. They act as ambassadors and the public face of the charity in partnership with the Chief Executive, representing Choose Love's values and mission to stakeholders and the wider community.

Rising Sun is a charity in Kent working to end domestic abuse and improve the lives of survivors and their children suffering from its effects.  We have an ambitious vision for a world in which women and children live free from actual or threatened domestic abuse and all forms of violence.

Trustee Board Duties and Collective Responsibilities

• Trustees oversee the policies and procedures that underpin the work of Rising Sun

Person Specification

Charity Law requires that any Trustee must be 18 or over, not be an undischarged bankrupt and not have been convicted of any unspent offence involving dishonesty or deception.

It is essential that all Trustees meet the qualities and requirements in the person specification below. In addition, all Trustees of Rising Sun are women because of the specialist nature of our work.

Our Board

Our trustee board is currently made up of seven trustees, all women, who are passionate about our mission and framework, and who bring a range of skills and experience from social care and health to finance and research. We would like to recruit three or four new trustees in this round and would particularly welcome applications from people with skills and experience in communications, commissioning, safeguarding and trauma informed work.

Trustee Board meetings are held every two months from 5.30-7.30pm in person in Canterbury, with the option of online via MS Teams for occasions when trustees cannot make it in person. The CEO attends all meetings and members of the Senior Leadership Team attend on rotation. As well as standing agenda items there are always interesting and exciting opportunities to discuss, as well as challenges and risks to the organisation.

Time Commitment

• Estimated at 2-4 hours per month comprising:
• Six 2-hour board meetings per year - most meetings are in-person in Canterbury (usually at the Prince of Wales Youth Club or another local venue if the youth club is unavailable)
• Time to read and reflect on board papers
• Attending an annual away day and occasional training sessions
• Attending optional team meetings and survivor focus groups

Note – the time commitment may be slightly greater in the initial 6 month probation and induction period due to induction activities and training.

Terms of appointment

• Trustees are appointed for a 3-year term, with the potential for re-election.
• This is a voluntary position, but reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.
• Trustees receive a welcome pack and an induction with the Board and CEO, including an opportunity to meet some of the team and service users
• Trustees will be required to complete a DBS check and complete Safeguarding training
• Additional training may be offered where necessary.

Volunteering for Sense

Sense is a leading disability charity with extensive knowledge and expertise in delivering personalised, creative and flexible support for disabled people with complex needs. Our tailored approach ensures that every person is empowered to live fully at every stage of life.

Due to the nature of the role, we require all applicants to be aged 16 or over. You must have a UK address to volunteer with Sense.

What your role will involve

You’ll get the opportunity to get involved in a wide range of activities, including:

• Welcoming and assisting customers, providing great customer service, helping create a wonderful shopping experience.
• Receiving donated items from the public, thanking them for their support.
• Sorting, steaming and preparing donations for sale.
• Helping to display stock in eye-catching and exciting ways.
• Keeping the shop floor clean, safe and tidy.
• Talking to customers about Sense and the work we do. 

When you’re ready, we’ll provide you with additional training to:

• Serve customers on the till in a warm and friendly way.
• Put sales through the till, packing them and thanking the customer for shopping with us.
• Talk to customers about Gift Aid and other fundraising initiatives.

If you’re interested in taking on additional responsibilities, you can train to become a Key Volunteer, helping the shop manager by:

• Helping supervise the shop and other volunteers.
• Supporting the shop manager to make sure customers have a great experience.
• Opening and closing the shop when needed.
• Cashing up at the end of the day.

Volunteer Opportunities with Unique Support Hub: Asylum Support Team – Croydon & Crystal Palace Areas

Are you passionate about social justice, community engagement, and making a lasting difference in the lives of migrants and those seeking sanctuary?
We are seeking dedicated, compassionate, and experienced volunteers to join our Asylum Support Team in Croydon and Crystal Palace.

As part of this vital team, you will contribute directly to enhancing the wellbeing and experience of asylum seekers living in the community and those in Home Office accommodations. Your support will play a critical role in helping individuals navigate the complexities of the asylum process and build connections within their new communities.

Volunteer Roles Available

We are looking for individuals to take on a variety of essential roles, including:

• Community Activities Coordinator
  Organise and facilitate inclusive, engaging activities both within the reception centres and in the wider community to foster wellbeing, integration, and resilience.
• Advice & Advocacy Support Volunteer
  Provide one-to-one guidance on asylum procedures, support clients in understanding their rights and entitlements, and escalate cases where needed in collaboration with Migrant Help and AASC providers.
• Wraparound Services & Signposting Volunteer
  Assist asylum seekers in accessing crucial wraparound services including housing support, digital inclusion, mental health, education, and employment advice. 
  Provide effective referrals to legal aid solicitors and community organisations.
