Network meetings every Thursday at 7.30pm in Stevenage (The White House). It is a requirement that the successful candidate will attend 2 meetings per month and a minimum of 100 hours on events per year.

New successful candidates will attend a Welcome Event (Induction) at The White House, Stevenage, on 17th July 2025.

We are appealing for a Volunteer to help at our Lyde Green Stroke Support Group weekly. 

Every year 950 people in Bristol and South Glos will experience a stroke: people of all ages…and from all backgrounds. Bristol After Stroke is the local charity that helps those people get their lives back on track – though our groups, activities, mentoring, counselling and so much more.

Our volunteers do a variety of things each week from helping with the room set up, serving hot drinks and supporting the activities that are planned eg music, poetry or seated exercise sessions like Yoga or Zumba. The most important part of the role of the volunteer though is to talk to group members, encourage them to get involved and generally help to promote a supportive, happy atmosphere that contributes to a sense of wellbeing.

Why we need your help:

- Our Volunteers provide help and support to our Group Leaders and group members at our weekly stroke support groups.

- Our groups provide an opportunity for anyone who has been affected by stroke to meet others affected by stroke and make new friends, take part in stimulating and enjoyable activities which will support rehabilitation.

Role Summary:

• Provide support for group activities, exercises, and games.

• Support the Group Leader with the planning of Group Activities.

• Provide general support to Group Leader and Group Members when needed.

• Make and serve refreshments.

• Give added enthusiasm and encouragement to our members in taking part in any physical activities or exercises that may be offered during the session.

• Talk to group members, encourage them to get involved and generally help to promote a supportive, happy atmosphere that contributes to a sense of wellbeing.

• Help at the group for its full duration each week including setting up and clearing away of the room.

Skills and Experience:

• Be patient, understanding and have a responsible attitude.

• Know about or be willing to learn about undertaking risk assessments.

We currently have a vacancy for a three hour per fortnight Office Volunteer Role, 9.30am - 12.30pm.  Option to work in our small office or from home.  Are you good on the phone?  Able to learn an online database system?  Enjoy being part of a small team?  Kew Neighbourhood Association needs you as part of our team.

KNA’s Office Volunteers are the link between KNA’s 40+ Driving Volunteers and our 200+ beneficiaries in Kew – who are often elderly and vulnerable.  Our beneficiaries phone the KNA Office requesting to go to medical appointments and to get The Avenue Club.  The role of our Office Volunteers is to link our Volunteer Drivers with people in Kew who need transport.

Our Charity

Kew Neighbourhood Association (KNA, Charity no. 1196093) was established in Kew in 1977 by local residents. 

KNA’s charitable objectives are the provision of services and facilities for people in Kew who are housebound or have mobility difficulties, without regard to race, sex, politics, religion, etc.  KNA has a committee of Trustees, including a Chair and Treasurer, and is administered by 3 part-time salaried staff from a small office in St Luke’s House, Sandycombe Road. Our office volunteers can use this space or work from home. 

KNA is funded principally by grants from other charities, from Richmond Council and by donations and fundraising events.

KNA’s current activities are:

• providing lifts by volunteer drivers in their own cars to those needing transport to medical appointments (e.g., GP or hospital) and to day centres, etc. (mainly the Avenue Club in Kew);

• providing volunteer companionship to isolated residents by periodic visits in their homes, accompanying them for local walks and to local cafes, cinema, theatre, cricket, etc.;

• assisting those in need of help with shopping and some light gardening;

• providing Moments of Joy to help our beneficiaries feel remembered in and valued by their community including an annual tea party for clients. 

Statistics

KNA has over 200 clients, around 40 drivers, and 28 companionship volunteers.  KNA carries out about 3,000 driving, shopping, gardening, prescription pick up and companionship jobs each year in Kew, TW9.

Volunteering for KNA is extremely flexible.  It is designed to fit around you and your other commitments. We do ask for a minimum commitment of helping for six months as it costs money to carry out DBS checks and to onboard volunteers.

“Solta o Jogo” is a vibrant cultural competition and festival that celebrates Brazilian heritage through Capoeira, music, dance, acrobatics, and a Brazilian arts fair. Hosted at Kingston University Townhouse, this event engages the local community through free performances, classes, and exhibitions.

As part of this project, we are looking for a Data Analyst who can help us measure community impact, inform decision-making, and contribute to continuous improvement across programme delivery. This is a hybrid volunteer role, ideal for someone based near Kingston (travel expenses will be reimbursed). You’ll gain valuable experience working in the non-profit sector and help shape a high-profile cultural programme that has received praise from local councillors, Kingston University, and the Brazilian Consulate in London.

Position Overview:
The Data Analyst plays a key role in supporting Quilombo UK’s community and cultural initiatives by collecting, managing, analysing, and reporting data related to engagement, outreach, and programme impact. This role is crucial to enabling data-driven decision-making across teams and enhancing the visibility of outcomes to stakeholders and funders.

Selection/interview will be done by two of three hiring managers with the people and volunteering manager running the processes. Decisions will be based on SJA requirements for the CFA role, distance from network area, responses in application and therefore candidates ability to volunteer within SJA as a community first aider/ Candidate interviews are ~45 minutes long on a Wednesday.

Background

First Step is a Charity based in the London Borough of Havering, working with families of children with special needs and/or disabilities. For more than 35 years, we have supported in excess of 1,500 families and their children.

Families are referred or self-refer to us at a moment of crisis or uncertainty, normally pre-diagnosis, where they have concerns about their child.  We provide a range of family-centric services tailored to each family’s and child’s needs.

During our history we’ve had highs and lows, including overcoming a challenging time following the withdrawal of funding from the Local Authority in 2017 as part of their own austerity cuts.  Despite this, we’ve managed to sustain the charity through increased fundraising.

Our current Board has more than 80 years of experience, and over the next couple of years we’re looking to add some new and dynamic Trustees to strengthen the team and bring refreshed critical and creative thinking to our Charity.

The Chair of Trustees Role

Our Chair is looking to stand down after 10 fulfilling years, and we are looking for a new Chair to work with our Board and CEO to further strengthen our organisation long into the future.  

The new Chair should be ambitious for our Charity and have the vision and energy to help it extend its reach and impact, along with being an experienced leader who has empathy for our families, and lives our values.

They will need to have the ability to lead from the front in a collaborative style that builds consensus amongst the board, so we can meet the challenges ahead.

The role

We are a small, friendly and inclusive charity supporting refugees and asylum seekers to build new lives in Bath. We are looking to recruit a small team of volunteers to look after cmmunications for us. Tasks can be shared according to applicants’ experience, skills and interests, and will include the following:

● Coordinating appropriate responses to any media enquiries, including monitoring and managing our media@  email address

● Engaging proactively with relevant media to help publicise our activities, needs and events by:

○ Writing occasional press releases

○ Creating content and posting on our social media channels

○ Occasionally updating our website.

● Coordinating the production of a quarterly membership newsletter.

● Monitoring and moderating content on our social media channels, taking steps to ensure it’s in line with our values and ethos

● Supporting our fundraising team by assisting it to develop and implement effective communication plans

● Monitoring national and international media for relevant issues that BWR should be aware of and may wish to take action to support

Your skills and experience

 Ideally you will have a background in communications in a commercial, public sector or charity setting or you may have a background as a journalist. 

Excellent written communication skills are needed and previous hands-on experience of managing social media feeds would be preferable. Skills in the development of visuals for use both online and in hard copy would also be welcomed.

As a regionally based charity, local media contacts would also be very valuable to us.

You will need to undertake a DBS check.

The role may suit someone who works part time or has recently retired.

At our sanctuary (Finsbury Park, North London) for those in suicidal crisis, we offer a potentially transformative experience with a once-only 4-night stay at our non-medical, family-style house. Through respite, time and space for reflection and compassionate and nurturing care, our Volunteer Befrienders and Lead Befrienders support an opportunity for the revival of hope and resilience.  

Volunteer Befrienders are key to Maytree and work alongside Lead Befrienders to provide an open and containing space for people who are feeling suicidal. Befriending is as it sounds: sitting alongside our guests as a compassionate, confidential, and non-judgemental friend. Through active listening and human warmth our volunteers enable our guests to explore their feelings and their options in their own way and in their own time. This face-to-face support is not therapy; it is about being calm and committed and not afraid of difficult subjects, including suicide.
