Our mission is to amplify the voices of girls, women, trans and non-binary people through music. We are looking for potential trustees who can support this work.

You will have oversight of the organisation’s work across a range of different areas, from finance to programming, health and safety to staff support, and fundraising to pay policy. We are looking for folk who will enjoy this variety, and who is willing to learn about the context in which small charities operate and respond proactively to what the charity needs. As an organisation with a tiny staff team, trustees at Girls Rock London have a more hands-on role than they do in larger charities.

As a number of our Board come to their final terms, we are looking to recruit:

Chair We are looking to recruit a new Chair of Trustees to lead the Board over the next three years, ensuring the board functions properly, the organisation is managed effectively, and to provide leadership support to staff.

Lead Finance Trustee We are looking to recruit a Trustee with expertise in financial management who will work with the Director to ensure the monitor the organisation’s finances and to make sure that money and property are properly managed. 

Designated Safeguarding Trustee We are looking to recruit a Trustee with expertise in safeguarding. Though safeguarding is the responsibility of all trustees, the Designated Safeguarding Trustee will take the lead on safeguarding, supporting the charity’s Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), CEO and Chair of Trustees.

We are looking for a team player with experience of finance and fundraising best practice, preferably within the charity sector, to join our Board of Trustees As we continue to expand our services, our new Treasurer will help us to develop our procedures and strategies to ensure we maintain good governance. Showroom Work Station is a registered charity and a cultural hub for South Yorkshire and the North of England. 

Located in a converted 1930’s art deco building, the venue is home to a four-screen cinema, creative industries business centre, event space, and café bar, in the heart of Sheffield city centre. 

We are looking to recruit new Trustees to join our board.  We are particularly keen to hear from anyone with knowledge and understanding of major capital projects, fundraising or the hospitality sector.  However, if you don’t have expertise in any of these areas, but still feel that you have something to offer, please still get in touch.  This is a unique opportunity to join a creative and passionate team and help shape the future of the organisation.

As a trustee you will oversee the operation of a major cultural cinema exhibiting a diverse film programme with first run and retrospectives of curated work, including archive, documentaries, and many unique one-off programmes with regular visiting filmmakers.  We are home to some very successful film festivals and host many unique events each month.

Through our trading subsidiary, we also manage the Work Station creative industries business centre, operate a successful bar/café, and conferencing facilities.

Our Trustees work closely with the Chair, Chief Executive and Senior Management Team to provide clear strategic direction to the organisation, helping to agree policy, define goals, set targets, and evaluate performance.

As with all our Trustees, we are looking for candidates who can demonstrate excellent communication skills and have a good understanding of local, regional, and cultural agendas.

Trustees are required to attend approximately 5 Board meetings per year (usually held on the last Monday of the month, 6 pm – 8 pm) and to offer relevant support and specialist knowledge to enable us to meet the objectives of our business. 

The post is not paid but all Trustees receive invitations to special events and have a weekly allocation of free cinema tickets (subject to availability).

The mission of Colchester Foodbank is to “prevent or relieve poverty in Colchester and the surrounding area, in particular but not exclusively by providing emergency food supplies”.

Over the last few years the food bank has grown substantially in response to rising demand, and last year provided 20,000 food parcels to adults and children through 11 satellites in and around Colchester. In addition, it signposts clients to specialist agencies who may be able to help with specific problems.

Colchester Foodbank is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation and a franchise of the Trussell Trust, a community of food banks that share best practice and expertise, and campaigns nationally for policies to address the underlying causes of food poverty. Colchester Foodbank actively drives those campaigns locally.

As a Trustee you will play a vital role by ensuring that we are meeting the demand for our services, providing help and support to people in crisis in the local community as well as providing strategic direction for the charity.

Key tasks

We are looking for additional trustees with the strategic skills to help guide the Foodbank, with a passion and commitment to the delivery of the foodbank’s mission, and to ending food poverty in the UK.

Job Responsibilities

This is a voluntary position. The time commitment will include preparing for and running 5 trustee meetings per year and attendance at other relevant meetings and exhibitions. There will also be some work between meetings to keep up with developments.

Work can be done outside of office hours or flexibly to suit your personal situation. Meetings take 2 hours on weekday evenings, and alternate between remote and in-person meetings. The Chairperson is usually required to commit to a further 7-14 hours between meetings.

About the opportunity  

A fantastic opportunity has arisen to join the Smart Works Greater Manchester Board of Trustees.

The Corporate Relationships Trustee will support in developing the corporate supporter base across the city region, with the aim of increasing the funding received from organisations. This will involve supporting the Fundraising and Partnerships Manager to shape the our corporate partner “offer”, engaging with corporate supporters, and building the narrative of our social value proposition.

Securing corporate funding / financial donations as an income stream will enable the Charity to continue delivering the Smart Works service across Greater Manchester, helping women to secure employment and gain financial independence. The corporate partner offering will include securing formal, multi-year Charity Partner status for Smart Works Greater Manchester across the city region and increasing corporate participation in fundraising challenges, such as the annual Cycle for Smart Works challenge and payroll giving.

The time commitment for this voluntary, unpaid role is an average of 0.5 day per month, with more time given at busy periods of the year. There will be a requirement to sit on the Fund-Raising Sub-Committee, with meetings taking place every three months, and to attend Board meetings taking place every quarter.

General Duties of a Smart Works Trustee

Make a lasting impact on young people in two inner London communities

Our Vision: Through an exceptional Central Foundation education, every student learns, develops, and grows so they can reach their full potential.

Central Foundation Schools of London (CFSL) is a charitable foundation which supports two amazing voluntary aided Schools based in the East End of London – Central Foundation Boys’ School in Islington and the Girls’ School in Tower Hamlets. Between them the two schools support over 2,500 young people from highly diverse communities and backgrounds.

The Foundation has just completed a major building redevelopment project with the Boys' School and is about to start a programme to extend the Sixth Form facilities and provision at the Girls' School. Beyond that the Foundation has just embarked on its first 3-year strategy which aims to leverage our skills, funding and influence to collaborate with our schools  to strengthen their education provision and outcomes.

The Foundation are seeking four new Board members to serve for an initial term of four years. We are particularly keen to appoint:

• Two new trustees with experience of leadership the secondary education sector and/or a strong understanding of education policy and the wider education context in which our schools are working.
• A further Board member with a strong background in finance who would also serve as a member of our Finance & Audit or Investment Committee, or possibly both.
• A new trustee with a keen interest in creating opportunities for young people potentially through experience in careers development, corporate partnerships, fundraising or income generation.

The Foundation Board meets in person quarterly and has an annual away day. As well as being members of the Board, trustees are asked to join one of the sub-committees or project groups - these meetings are usually hybrid with one in-person meeting each year.

Share Psychotherapy is a long-standing psychotherapy charity providing long term, low cost therapy. We specifically aim to help people who cannot afford or cannot access therapy elsewhere. Share Psychotherapy is one of Sheffield’s leading mental health charities. Established for over 40 years we offer medium to long term therapy at nominal fees, primarily to people on low incomes. This therapy is delivered through a range of psychodynamic & creative modalities. We therefore work at the vital intersection of psychological distress & poverty in the city, providing high quality, long term therapy to people who could not otherwise obtain such help, especially those on low incomes. 

Our clients are often experiencing serious mental and emotional distress, through anxiety, depression, difficulty with relationships or traumatic life events.

We are part way through a change process at Share - developing and strengthening our clinical services, improving our administrative and business systems and strengthening our financial position. We want to build upon our position as a centre of excellence in psychotherapy and make an even bigger contribution to improving mental health in Sheffield.

Would you like to help us in this venture? We are looking for people with specialist skills who are willing to help in a voluntary capacity; either as a trustee on our board, or as a specialist volunteer contributing on a project basis. We are willing to consider a wide range of contributions.

The Board of Trustees has ultimate responsibility for the sound governance of the organisation.

Specifically its role is:
● To agree overall direction and strategic plans, and to monitor, at a summary level, progress
against these
● To oversee the finances - to ensure they are being well managed and we are in sound financial
health
● Specifically to take particular interest in our fundraising strategy and performance
● To oversee our compliance with all legislation, e.g. on Child Safeguarding or Health and Safety as
well as with Charity Commission regulations
● To monitor strategic risks and ensure we have suitable mitigations in place

The trustees meet formally for a Trustee meeting about once a quarter, usually for 2.5 hours after the
normal working day. Each trustee is expected to play their part as a member of the Board, providing
challenge and support to the executive team as required.

Specific responsibilities include:
● Preparing for and attending trustee meetings
● From time to time and as appropriate, attending other Grounded Sounds events (e.g. end of
project showcase events, House Band performances, advisory board meetings) in order to gain a
greater understanding of the workings of the charity
● Communication with the Exec or other trustees in between meetings, as needed, in relation to
music industry connections, fundraising or other issues requiring input.

The role:
We are looking for people who care about supporting local people in financial hardship and reducing inequality, who are willing to bring energy, enthusiasm, and commitment to the role, and who will broaden the diversity of thinking and perspective on the board. Whether you bring expertise in housing, disability, mental health, or fundraising, your unique perspective would be invaluable to the Talking Money board.

We particularly welcome applications from people with direct or indirect (for example though a family member or friend) lived experience of the kinds of issues our clients face (e.g., poverty, financial hardship, over-indebtedness, homelessness).

Responsibilities:

As a trustee, you’ll play a pivotal role in:

• Overseeing organisational strategy and financial plans.
• Providing support and challenge to our executive team.
• Ensuring compliance with governing documents and legal obligations.
• Promoting and protecting the interests of Talking Money.

Time commitment and expenses:

• This is a voluntary position with reasonable expenses reimbursed.
• Minimum commitment of 17 hours per year, including board meetings and team events.
• Opportunities for professional development and training sessions

Terms of appointment:

• Initial 5-year term, with the possibility of renewal. Potential for progression to Chair of the Board.
