Do you believe every older person deserves to live a happy, connected and dignified life? Join Age Well East as our next Chair of Trustees and lead positive change across one of the UK’s most populous and diverse counties.

Age Well East supported over 4,000 older people last year through nearly 400 volunteers and 23 staff, delivering befriending, benefits advice, social activities, and mental health support. We operate virtually and face-to-face, from our base in Clacton and across the community.

Yet, challenges remain. An estimated 47,000 older people in Essex live in poverty, 29,000 experience loneliness, and we know that in neighbouring Suffolk, 179,000 older people currently have little support

.The Role

We’re seeking a new Chair to guide the next phase of our development. You'll provide strategic leadership, act as line manager to the CEO, and ensure we continue to grow our impact while maintaining strong governance.

The expected time commitment is around 2–3 days per month, aggregated across the month to support flexibility. Board meetings are held quarterly (mostly via video call), with additional engagement as needed.

To ensure a smooth handover, the successful candidate will be invited to Co-Chair alongside our current Chair, Nick Avery. The length of this transition period is flexible and will be tailored to the new Chair’s preference, with full transition expected by early 2026 at the latest.

About You

You’ll share our belief that all older people should be able to Age Well. You’ll be collaborative, values-driven, and a confident leader able to support our CEO and work effectively with our Board. While prior Chair experience isn’t essential, we are looking for someone who has served on a Board—whether in the charity, public or private sector. Fundraising experience is a plus, and so is a strong network or voice in support of older people.

Leicester Print Workshop, an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation, offers high quality printmaking facilities and development opportunities for artists in the East Midlands and beyond. Its outreach activities in local schools and the community aim to increase participation in printmaking among people of all ages. The organisation is currently seeking trustees to help guide its strategic direction during an important phase of development. 

Key Skills Sought

To complement the skills of our existing trustees, we are seeking individuals with significant experience in philanthropic fundraising, financial management or development of online learning.  Previous experience as a trustee would be helpful, but training will be provided for those taking on their first board appointment.

Science plays a crucial role in shaping the future of our planet, and at Physics Partners, we’re on a mission to inspire and support the next generation of physicists. We’re a small charity focused on enhancing the physics skills of teachers and students, with a particular emphasis on underrepresented groups.

We are seeking two new trustees with expertise in charity law, STEM education, industry, or fundraising, to help us grow and impact even more schools. One of these trustees will also be invited to take on the Honorary Secretary role.

Make a Difference as a Trustee for Jerry Green Dog Rescue

Last year, Jerry Green Dog Rescue rehomed nearly 500 dogs, and provided support to many more in the community. We are proud to be the exemplar of the highest standard of dog welfare in rescue services, achieving 100% in our most recent Association of Dog and Cat Home assessment. We have a proud history and an ambitious strategy and are now looking for more trustees to support us on the next stage of our development.

We are seeking dedicated and passionate individuals to join our Board of Trustees. As a trustee, you will play a vital role in shaping the strategic direction of our charity, ensuring we continue to make a lasting impact on dog welfare.

This is an exciting time to join our organisation. In 2024, we agreed an ambitious new five-year strategy that will further strengthen our ability to support dogs in need. To help us achieve our goals, we are looking for additional Board members with specific expertise to guide and support our work.

Who we’re looking for

We welcome applications from individuals who are enthusiastic, committed, and passionate about dog welfare. Whether you are an experienced trustee or looking to take on your first board role, we can provide the support you need to succeed.

We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in the following areas:

• Treasurer: A qualified accountant providing expert guidance to the Board in financial matters.

• Land & Property: Expertise in land ownership, property development, or land surveying to advise on strategic decisions regarding our land assets.

• Retail: Experience in retail, ideally charity retail and expansion, to support our Head of Retail in growing our retail operations.

• Fundraising: A fundraising expert to support our Head of Fundraising and Marketing, with a particular focus on AI innovation, social platforms, and emerging technologies.

• Legal: A qualified lawyer or solicitor.

• Helping to shape the strategic direction of the charity.

• Providing guidance and oversight including in your area of expertise.

• Ensuring the charity operates in line with its mission, values, and legal responsibilities.

First Give – providing hope for the future

Today’s young people care deeply about social issues. But while 88% of 10–20-year-olds want to make the world a better place, far fewer are taking part in meaningful social action.

First Give was founded ten years ago to change that. Our mission is simple: ignite a spark of social conscience in young people and give them the chance to make a difference.

Through our school-based programmes, we’ve supported nearly 250,000 students to connect with local charities, take social action, and understand the power of giving. The impact is clear:

• 98% of students better understand local social issues
• 90% are more likely to take social action again
• 95% of teachers say we succeed in inspiring a sense of social conscience

Despite this, we’re only reaching 7% of state secondary students in our key regions. We need to go further.

Route to a Million Campaign

We’ve set our sights on something bigger. By 2034, we want one million young people to experience the power of giving through our programmes.

To make that happen, we’re launching an ambitious fundraising campaign—Route to a Million—to raise an additional £1.5m over the next three years.

This is a pivotal moment. With the right support, we can expand our reach, scale our model and dramatically increase our impact.

Who we’re looking for

We need a bold, strategic Chair to lead the new Campaign Board and help bring this vision to life.

You’ll bring:

• Senior leadership experience and strong business acumen
• Influence and networks that can unlock significant support
• A passion for empowering young people and driving social change

As Chair, you’ll:

• Shape and drive the fundraising strategy
• Open doors and generate new funding opportunities
• Build and lead a high-impact Campaign Board
• Act as a lead ambassador for First Give and the campaign

• This is an opportunity to play a defining role in a campaign with a lasting legacy—for young people, for communities, and for the future of giving in the UK.

Time commitment and support

• Around 1-2 days per month, including some evening events
• A three-year term
• Based in London with in-person Board meetings at our West Hampstead office

Come and join the team at one of our Pink Ribbon Walks! We need friendly, enthusiastic volunteers to help welcome our walkers, support them out on the route, and cheer them across the finish line.

We’re expecting hundreds of walkers to take part across our 10 and 20 mile Pink Ribbon Walks. You’ll be part of the 100-strong support team on the day, helping to make sure they have a safe, fun experience while they raise funds for our world-class research and life-changing support.

What will I be doing?

· From welcoming and registering our walkers in the event village, to running a snack station on the route, to cheering and handing out medals at the finish line - there’s a role for everyone at a Pink Ribbon Walk!

· You’ll be that friendly face, making sure our walkers get the support and encouragement they need, when they need it.

What do I get out of it? 

· Fun! You’ll have a great time when you join the Pink Ribbon Walk community.

· You’ll meet new people from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences.

· You’ll use your communication and teamwork skills to help support a major fundraising event.

· Able to quickly connect with and uplift people.

· Happy to work as part of a team or independently.

· Flexibility - We need you to be available between 7am and 6.30pm, but we don’t expect you to volunteer all day!

· You’ll get an info pack well in advance, to help you plan for your big day!

· You’ll get a full briefing from the staff team on the day.

· You’ll get a free hot meal (and breakfast if you start early).

Shelter Bucket Collection – Slough Tesco Extra

Role summary

Through their ‘Taste and Tesco’ scheme, the UK’s biggest supermarket offer charities across the UK opportunities to apply for fundraising collections outside their stores. Following a successful application, this bucket collection will take outside the Slough Wellington Tesco Extra, Slough. Volunteers will be required to stand with buckets and card machines asking the public for donations.

• Availability: This is a flexible opportunity, with various shifts between 10:00 - 17:00
• Suggested involvement: Whatever works for you - you choose the shift you volunteer at!
• Location: Slough Wellington Extra, Brunel Way, Wellington Street, Slough, SL1  1XW 
• Supervised by: Community and Events Assistant

We’re part of the Royal Air Force Air Cadets, a national youth organisation empowering 12- to 20-year-olds through flying, adventure training, sports, and leadership development. 

West Mercian Wing supports over 900 cadets across 27 Squadrons in Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Shropshire, the Black Country, and overseas in Cyprus. 

Each squadron has a Civilian Welfare Committee, a team of trustees who support the squadron by overseeing governance, fundraising, and building community partnerships. Trustees are vital in ensuring squadrons can continue providing incredible opportunities for cadets.

No military background or youth work experience is required—just enthusiasm, reliability, and a passion for making a difference! 

Opportunities for progression 

Trustees can take on leadership roles within their squadron, support squadrons at sector or wing level, or even contribute to regional and national RAF Air Cadets governance. Some trustees also transition into squadron volunteer roles, working directly with cadets. 

To join us, you’ll need to 

• Be 20 years or older 

• Have lived in the UK for at least 3 years 

• Attend an evening meeting every three months (varies by squadron) 

• Bring enthusiasm, reliability, and a willingness to support young people. 

Typical joining process: 

1. Submit an expression of interest. 

2. We’ll invite you to visit your chosen squadron to learn more. 

3. Complete a simple online application if invited. 

4. Undergo a DBS and basic security check. 

This process usually takes a few weeks, depending on availability and checks.

We help thousands of cats across the UK each year thanks to our network of dedicated volunteers, employees and supporters.

A bit about the role

As a charity we can continue to help cats and kittens in need thanks to the donations we receive at fundraising events from generous members of the public. Our Fundraising Event Helpers have the exciting and varied role of helping at local fundraising events - such as cakes sales, barn dances, quiz nights – and everything in between!

What can you expect to be doing

● Help set up and/or man stalls at events

● Help on collection days like supermarket collections events or street collections

● Help at fundraising events such as Quiz nights, cake sales and dances

● Promoting a professional image of Cats Protection at events

Time expectation

However much time you can give, your contribution will help raise much needed funds to continue the work of Cats Protection.

At Cats Protection we believe our volunteers should be happy and confident in their roles. We provide support and guidance from our National Cat Centre and through our regional and local volunteer groups and teams. We offer engaging online and face-to-face training, expenses and have policies and processes to help volunteers get the most out of their time with us.
