General Volunteer Roles in Westminster, Greater London

This role is one of two Trustee positions on the Board providing oversight of the Trust’s finances and financial management. In addition to the general duties of trustees (more information here), the role involves:

· Monitoring the financial standing of the charity.

· Ensuring that the charity’s finances are managed responsibly.

· Overseeing the reporting of the financial health of the charity to the Board of Trustees and of the charity’s financial risk-management process.

· Providing general support and oversight for the effective running of the Trust as a member of the Board of Trustees.

The role may also include chair responsibility for the Trust’s Finance Committee (not essential).

Specific Finance Responsibilities – in conjunction with the Chair of the Finance Committee

Scrutiny of papers produced by the Head of Finance & Operations (HoFO) and the wider Senior Management Team in the following areas:

Budgeting and strategic financial planning

• Ensure that strategic plans are financially appraised and that implementation plans are aligned with budgets.
• Provide constructive challenge to the annual and longer-term budget and forecasting processes.
• Ensure transparency and accountability in resource allocation.

Management Reporting

• Ensure that a high standard of management accounting is maintained.
• Liaise with the Chair of the Finance Committee to guide the HoFO in the preparation and production of high quality management accounts to the Board.

Statutory Financial Reporting

• Ensure the finalisation of statutory financial accounts by the HoFO in line with charity regulations and statements of recommended practice and the completion of the external audit process. Assist fellow trustees to formally approve the Trustees’ Annual Report and Annual Accounts

Reserves Policy

• Review the reserves policy.

Keep the Board informed regularly of the free reserves position and advise on strategies for coping with changing circumstances.

Governance and Financial Control

• Ensure that proper accounting records are kept, financial resources are controlled, invested and economically spent in line with governance, legal and regulatory requirements.
• Attend quarterly Finance Committee meetings and support the Chair of the Finance Committee in reporting financial matters to the Board of trustees.

Spurgeons is one of the UK’s leading children’s charities, supporting vulnerable and disadvantaged children and their families for 150 years. Together, we create Family Hubs in communities where we’re needed most, with counselling, early years and family support. We partner with local councils and churches to care for every family, putting children and young people first in everything we do. Our services also include helping young carers, providing parenting advice and working with families affected by domestic abuse, and imprisonment.

These services are needed more than ever, particularly as local authorities with tight budgets make difficult choices on where to spend their limited resources. As we prepare for the launch of our new five-year plan in 2025, we are ambitious and hopeful about how we can use our strong financial position and robust level of assets to make a significant impact on many more children’s lives in the future.

To support Board succession planning, we are seeking to appoint new trustees with experience and skills such as:

· Lived experience: we are particularly looking to hear the voice of young people on our Board and especially those with lived experience of children and young people’s support services. We will provide the necessary training, mentoring and support to fulfil the role.

· Fundraising/marketing: this trustee will bring a clear understanding of best practice in fundraising and/or marketing.

· Children’s services: we are looking for someone with senior management or leadership experience in the children’s services sector e.g. within social services/ the care sector, health, education, local authorities or charitable contexts.

· Counselling: this trustee will have understanding and/or experience in counselling, bringing wisdom and insight at a governance level.

· Digital: we seek a leader with experience of digital transformations and entrepreneurship, to provide a strategic view of how Spurgeons can thrive in a digital, audience-focused context.

Given an occupational requirement for these roles to be filled by Christians, we are seeking candidates with a personal and active Christian faith who are comfortable and aligned with the statement of faith outlined on our website.

The Alice Ruggles Trust was established in 2017 after the death of Alice following a tragic stalking case perpetrated by her ex-boyfriend.  The Alice Ruggles Trust is a charity that educates young people under 25 about stalking; it is our mission to foster generations of young people who understand stalking, the potential risks of stalking, and what they can do about it. 

We’re looking for a skilled volunteer who can contribute to the Board, as well as provide strategic and operational fundraising advice and guidance. 

As a Trustee with fundraising expertise, you will work with fellow Trustees and staff to advise on the financial stability of the organisation. 

The role holder will be responsible for: 

• Working with the Board of Trustees and the Strategy and Development Manager to develop the overall governance of the charity’s fundraising operations. 

• Contributing to a fundraising strategy that will develop the breadth of fundraising activity, including assessing the risk of new fundraising directions. 

• Supporting the Engagement Officer to develop and deliver robust systems, policy, and procedures for managing donations and supporter information.

The Pirate Castle is looking for a Treasurer.  We are an iconic Camden-based community boating charity, established for 55 years.  Our well-known castle building sits on the banks of the Regent's Canal.  We rent out our community space and offer a range of watersports.  Kayaking and canal boating are core to our work and we strive to tackle disadvantage and support our community by offering subsidised sport and recreation.  The ideal candidate will have a strong background in fiancial analysis or accounting, ideally with a professional accountancy qualification.  Previous experience in a Treasurer role would be an advantage.

The role involves working with our employed General Manager and contracted Bookkeeper to monitor and oversee the charity's financies and to report to trustees.  It also involves overseeing the preparation of the annual accounts, working with our retained accountancy firm.

MHA The Wilderness is a 7 acre heritage garden attached to MHA Hall Grange Care home in Croydon, London. The garden has been recently reclaimed and conserved. Our aim is to make it a peaceful haven for MHA Hall Grange residents, visitors, staff and local communities. As a Volunteer Gardener you will help our Head Gardener and other volunteers with the general upkeep of The Wilderness. 

Main activities:

• You’ll be working with a small friendly team throughout The Wilderness garden to help with the general upkeep.
• You’ll do tasks such as; watering, weeding, stimming, cutting and propagating
• You’ll keep the grounds accessible for all with ongoing maintenance and clear areas for access throughout the seasons

As part of our strategic priorities, RollaDome All Skate is currently seeking, detail-oriented, reliable, friendly Clubs Administrator to join our growing team. You will be expected to deliver a high-quality experience to our members and visitors in a friendly yet professional manner at all times.

Front of House:

· Meet and greet members, visitors to the Clubs and attend to their requirements as needed.

· Deal with all general membership enquiries, including booking issues, registration information and bookings.

· Set up and administer all club related activities on time booking sheet to include medical information, equipment sizes, all club bookings and event planning.

· Keep members informed in relation to any rescheduling, delays, or changes to planed club events and activities.

· Ensure club times are adhered to.

· Ensure members are informed of club and organisation events.

· Ensure reception desk is always manned, during club and event sessions.

· Work with the head Coach/Operations Director, the Business Manager and CEO to organise all groups/outings that are being hosted by RollaDome and prepare team and facility for these events.

We are currently recruiting a new Treasurer to join our Board of Trustees. As a Trustee of STAMP Revisited, you will play a crucial role in setting the strategic direction of the charity and ensuring good governance.  You will contribute to ensuring that the charity fulfils its mission, operates effectively, and remains accountable to those experiencing mental health issues.

In addition to the general duties as Trustee, as Treasurer you will play a pivotal role in securing the financial integrity and sustainability of our charity. The Democratic Progress Institute (DPI) is seeking to appoint several legal volunteers with an interest in our work relating to conflict resolution. We are offering a number of internships to outstanding candidates. Admission to our internship program is on a rolling-basis, lasting at least three months, and is unpaid. The successful candidates will be current or recent postgraduates or at post-doctoral level.

Volunteers recruited to DPI’s International Law Department will assist with all areas of its work, in particular, current projects relating to the implementation of ECtHR judgments in Turkey and legal analysis on matters related to international humanitarian law. Other work could include legal research, monitoring and analysis of human rights issues, documentation/organisation of legal materials, analysis of ECtHR judgments, preparing and drafting communications to United Nations bodies, contributing to casework, preparing papers for submission to the Human Dimension of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe, editing reports, and providing general support to the legal team. In return, we will provide experience of and insight into the world of international human rights litigation and exposure to legal research at the forefront of conflict-resolution and peace-building.

The suitable candidate will be available ideally full time (Monday to Friday, 9.30 to 17.30) but other arrangements can be made. You will have the opportunity to assist with the general work of the legal department for a period of three to six months, with a particular focus on our legal case-work and on the implementation of ECtHR judgments in Turkey. Candidates are expected to have excellent verbal and written English skills, a strong visual eye, good attention to detail and strong organisational skills. Working well either alone or as part of a team, you will have experience of working with a diverse range of people.
