Job description

Fixed term for 24 months

Help to tackle the biggest scientific and health challenges and opportunities facing our society

From basic research to clinical application and healthcare delivery, the Academy of Medical Sciences champions innovation and transforms patient outcomes. We’re here to promote excellence, nurture a new generation of medical researchers and bring academia, industry and the NHS together whilst shaping policy on the world stage. Our prestige and influence allow us to have a transformative impact on policy and research.

You will play a key role in the Academy’s close-knit policy team, spending most of your time supporting its influential major policy projects, including on the sustainability of health research in the UK. This will require working closely with a range of Academy Fellows, other experts and stakeholders to identify, analyse and drive progress on key science policy topics. You will also work on other policy projects that support the delivery of our strategic challenge to ‘harness our expertise and convening power to tackle the biggest scientific and health challenges and opportunities facing our society’. This will include activities to inform and influence the funding and organisation of the UK’s science base.

A team player, ideally with experience of developing and delivering programmes of activities and with knowledge of the UK policy environment, you have strong time management skills and an appetite to work with partners across research disciplines, sectors and communities to influence key science policy decisions. First-rate communication skills and attention to detail are essential as the role will also involve preparing and disseminating briefings, consultation responses and policy reports. You will be expected to foster excellent relationships with Fellows, external partners and key stakeholders, as well as with staff across the Academy.

Excellent benefits include: generous leave allowance, Academy pension scheme, and travel assistance amongst others. The Academy is based in offices near Oxford Circus but staff are currently working primarily remotely.
