As our Policy & Insight Officer, you will build partnerships and turn learning from our members, services, training and research into practical insight that can improve responses to gambling-related harm. You will lead policy engagement, coordinate supported lived-experience contributions, and help partners understand what effective, inclusive support looks like. You will also develop our monitoring, evaluation, and learning, ensuring that evidence informs both our work and the wider sector.

What you will be doing 

• Leading policy engagement and influence, including coordinating supported lived-experience contributions to consultations, advisory groups and prevention forums, and representing GamLEARN at conferences and sector events. 

• Turning learning from membership, service delivery, training and research into clear briefings, evidence notes and learning summaries for policy, practice, training and commissioning. 

• Developing safe and meaningful opportunities for members to contribute to policy, research and professional discussions, with appropriate preparation, briefing and debriefing. 

• Building relationships with voluntary and community organisations, statutory services, public health bodies, researchers and prevention networks to share learning and improve responses to gambling harm. 

• Working with the Research Coordinator and research partners to bring lived-experience insight into an independent evidence base for prevention. 

• Implementing our monitoring, evaluation and learning framework with an external evaluation partner, establishing reporting cycles and producing quarterly learning reports. 

• Analysing referral quality, engagement after referral and gaps in access across communities, localities and sectors, and sharing findings with membership and training colleagues. 

• Leading accessible member briefings on systems including justice, finance, the Proceeds of Crime Act, media, regulation and sentencing, with input from the Training Manager. 

• Co-producing learning resources and training materials with the Training Manager and partners, including policy expertise on ethical lived-experience involvement. 

• Supporting reliable data capture, feedback and reporting, and contributing to inclusive participation and progression into representative, advisory and leadership roles. 

• Working with colleagues on shared media activity and upholding safeguarding, confidentiality and professional boundaries in all aspects of the role. 

What we are looking for 

We are interested in hearing from candidates who can demonstrate: 

• Relevant lived experience of gambling-related harm, directly or as an impacted other, and the ability to use that insight safely and constructively. 

• An understanding of criminal law and criminal justice procedures. 

• Experience managing a support service or programme and supervising staff or peer supporters, including allocating work and supporting performance development. 

• A compassionate, non-judgmental approach and an understanding of lived-experienced practice. 

• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including accurate record-keeping and clear reporting. 

• The ability to build partnerships, coordinate referrals, and work effectively with colleagues and external professionals. 

• Strong planning and organisational skills, sound judgement, and the ability to prioritise competing demands. 

Desirable: experience working with legal professionals, probation, courts or prisons; contributing to funding applications, research or service evaluation; facilitating peer groups or professional training; or using CRM systems.
